The area is shaded by a grove of Ponderosa pine, fir and cedar. The year-long dry spell showed inside this 'once' cool, green forest of trees. As you can see from the images I took, it is no longer a welcoming site. ** Sierra National Forest is known for its mountain scenery and beautiful lakes. It was the second National Forest created in California and the largest at the time - covering over six million acres (24,000 km2) of the Sierra Nevada. President Harrison proclaimed the Sierra Forest Reserve on February 14, 1893. The northern portions of the Sierra National Forests were used for Yosemite National Park and the Stanislaus National Forest.

Overall: great campsite…read more My friend and I wanted to camp in Yosemite but all the camp sites were full so we decided on this one. The online reservation didn't give us a campsite number but when we drove into the site, we noticed our name was already posted on one of the sites so we pulled into the spot and parked. We got there on a Thursday night and the local ranger who lives at the site came around and checked us in on Friday morning and gave us a parking pass. The campground is pretty shaded and there are 2 "toilets" that had toilet paper. No running water or showers are available. We filled up a 5 gal water container in Fresno before heading over for $1.25 and we were fine for the 3 nights we were there. Our campsite had a good-sized picnic table and fire ring with grate on one side. No need to bring a camp stove. We brought a pan and were able to cook hot dogs and hamburgers just fine. The recreation.gov website says that bears frequent the area but there are no bear-proof food lockers. I called the local ranger and they told us there hasn't been a bear sighting this season and that we would be ok leaving our food in our cars. Helpful tip: don't leave food out on the picnic table since little critters will tear through bags and eat anything that's out. The campsites are not super close to each other but we got unlucky and had a noisy family camp next to us the next day. Voices seem to carry in this site

I've been camping for more than 25 years, whether it be dispersed with limited facilities or sites…read morethat have full on electrical outlets and close to a body of water (like Camp Edison). Yet majority of the time, I have been lucky to get a reservation here. To make a reservation, you will need to go on Camplife.com and select Camp Edison as your location. Reservations open up 6 months prior to your desired camping dates. So if you want to camp around June, you will need to get on the reservation site around December and compete with others in the reservation process. Reserving for May-July are the worst; similar to reserving at Yosemite National Park. It can be frustrating as you will be assigned a random number in the queue at 8am on the dot; so make sure you're logged in at least 15 minutes prior just in case you encounter connection issues. You can be either #1 or #1000; it just depends on how many are on the site at that given time. You also have a time limit to make your reservation or risk to having it swooped by another camper if you fail to do so. I recommend making your reservation on a desktop and not on mobile as you might have issues with cell signal. As far as the experience goes, I just love camping here. Sites are adequately spaced but other "Loops" may be a bit spacier. Most sites are RV/Trailer accomodating. Electric meters for eac site, communal water stations, hot showers (shower card needed) and flushing toilets. They also have a Camp Store near the Check In Booth. There are also vendors that drive around that sell firewood. You can also rent boats at the Shaver Lake Marina, and if fully booked, you can try your luck at the nearby Sierra Marina. Walking distance to Shaver Lake and a few mins drive to the Shaver Lake town. I highly recommend this campgrund if you're lucky to snag a spot online. Also, you can pay for "Day Use" only - which basically is equivalent to a Day Pass. Good luck!

After staying for nine days we found out that you had to become an escapee's member and the cost was $49. To join for one year. The park refunded this in a free night credit. While staying here we met the park manager and took a tour after finding out they are a 55+ members park. After reviewing the park information and seeing what a beautiful park this was we decided to make this our home base. We travel to many places after retirement but found that we needed a place to hang out hat for Dr. appointments, and staying connected with our family in the Central Valley. We bought in and picked our site. The unique nature of living here is that the members here all volunteer to help keep cost down to run the park. This gave us a sense of ownership and community. We volunteer 3 days per week for approximately 4 hours per day and join in on special events to help set up or organize events that are for the members. It's not like having a job but more like going to hang out with folks that have the same interests. There is constantly an event going on weather you like to play cards, pool, dominoes, darts, working out , or outdoor activities like pickle ball or mini golf the fun is endless. This amazing place has beautiful views of the Sierra foothills and there's even a casino across the mountain. Becoming a member here has given us a place to call home in between our travels and our site remains ours when we're in the park. If you're thinking of becoming a full timer or if you're looking for a great place to glamp, this is the place!

Furthermore, our site had an uneven and rotten picnic table, and the fire-pit was nearly full with ash and sand which I had to clean out. It was also disappointing to encounter a staff member, specifically an older, larger Hispanic woman, who had an issue with authority. At one point during our stay, I returned to the site after my baby had been throwing up to grab some things for his stomach. I was driving around a corner at approximately 10 miles per hour (yes, I know, 5 mph over the posted speed limit), when this staff member came flying around the corner in the middle of the road, causing her to swerve and nearly hit me, with my child in the car. Rather than accepting that we were both going a little too fast, she threatened to kick me off the grounds and chewed me out for speeding while she herself was disregarding their own rules. Overall, paying $43 a night during the slow season, with no complementary services and having to clean up the site before we could even set up, made the experience very disappointing. I think paying the extra $5 for a nearby campground that offers firewood, kind staff, and a clean, well-kept site would be much more worth it. 2 stars for at least having a nice bathroom. Summary of frustration: The cramped site layout, poor maintenance, and staff's poor handling of a stressful situation made the experience feel far below expectations, especially for the price. The lack of amenities and cleanliness only added to the frustration.
