It said to dress to impress for a disco, when we arrived we were greeted by a host that was there to check you off the list and make sure you paid your $120. Which covered some cocktails, cookies, fruit and finger sandwiches. The hosts stayed by the door and didn't really check to see how the party was going. There were a few streamers and balloons. No party favors or noise makers for midnight. A very small disco ball over the empty dance floor. (We thought we were early) The lights were never dimmed throughout the night so you couldn't see the disco lights. The DJ refused to play any music the guest requested for the Disco effect and got upset when asked. People complained and left by 10:30pm. The DJ was terrible and kept his head down and continued playing through the stroke of midnight with the few remaining guest counting down on their own, when he finally realized it he played some lame new year's celebration music too late. It definitely was not what they advertised at all. Sorry to say someone dropped the ball that night and it wasn't the new years ball. Maybe miscommunication or lack of planning? Hopefully next year will be better for those who do go back. Happy New Year .

They host dinners every Friday night. You can rent the place for only $60 for the whole day as a member. There is a billiard room upstairs with 6 pool tables and all the equipment to play. There is a card room to play bridge, poker or cribbage. The basement has a 5 lane candle pin bowling alley. No bowling shoes required and you can reset your own lane as you desire. The upstairs is an open room that we enjoyed wonderful music that was provided by our hosts. There was a huge space for all the dancing. The front entrance was setup like a lounge with comfy couches and deep soft leather chairs. Our hosts held a BBQ and they provided a the delicious food. They even brought in a bartender who provided soda beer and a variety of mixed drinks. This was a great place to mingle and relax. What an awesome club!!

Coffee for me. After going through the whole venue we went to check out the food area also available to us but not needed. Never knew they had this cafeteria. I rated this hotel 5 stars and it definitely deserved it. Here is the reason we were at the hotel: We rented a cottage at Higgins Beach; when we arrived the place was dirty. none of the rooms had even been swept, really a turnoff. we hade been renting a cottage at Higgins for 25 years and it was sold as a year round home. The description of this cottage was obviously written with rose colored glasses so it would be rented. I reported the condition to the realtor who worked for a Keller Williams team and she would not even come to see the condition of the cottage. instead she said, "there were people who rented it before us and they didn't complain about anything." Perhaps the people before us left the home a mess - sticky kitchen counter and table with dirty floor, dusty blinds, dirty rugs, and it smelled. there was a smaller cottage behind the house (same property) which our husband and his wife stayed in. we all commented after the first night about the smell......it was black mold! in both rentals. My husband had a respiratory illness and after the second night, our son paid for us to stay in a hotel in Portland near the waterfront. I requested a full refund, but the realtor refused. She did send a cleaning crew and the lady who was cleaning said it smelled musty and the black mold in our bathroom was bad. My husband and I had our daughter with us and we felt bad about the whole experience. we had one nice day at the beach and left Higgins Beach early thereby cutting our one week vacation short. My husband was seen by his Pulmonologist the day after our return home. Ironically, the house was leveled when we took a ride up some months later; probably condemned!

This is a small welcoming seaport that makes a tourist from a larger cruise ship feel appreciated!…read more We had a few minutes before our tour and it was nice to walk around and meet some of the local vendors! It is very well organized as it can take a couple of thousand passengers off a ship and load them up on busses in minutes! Plenty of things to see and do in the town as well that are a quick walk from the docked ship! Whenever I travel, I like to take in a museum. However, since I had some time in my itinerary I decided to check PMA out during my most recent trip to Maine. PMA is split into four levels, and is mainly broken up by American art, European art, and modern art. You won't find many famous works here, however they did have a couple of pieces by Picasso, Monet, and Sargent. During my time there, they had a special exhibition displaying the works of Winslow Homer. One of the more noteworthy components of the museum are restorations of historic homes that are attached to the exhibition spaces. The museum isn't large, so it only took me about 90 minutes to get through it all (though I admittedly don't dawdle). My favorite part was their modern art section - modern art speaks to me so I enjoyed taking in their selection. The staff was friendly, and their gift shop had a decent selection of merch. Overall, I wouldn't necessarily call PMA a must-do in Portland. However, I think it's a good way to spend an afternoon, take in a little culture, and learn about some of the city's history.
