One star. They still deal with black and white radiology. Not modern at all. They do nothing to help solve issues.

Last Saturday I got a toothache on a tooth that had been bothering me off and on for awhile. It was…read morefinally bad enough that I knew I needed to do something as quickly as possible. I am new to the area and was referred to this dentist by a coworker. My appointment was over a week out but that was okay because the pain had subsided. Yesterday (Sunday) the toothache came back with a vengeance. I called and left a message at the office around 6pm to ask for an emergency appointment in the morning. I suffered through the night sleeping in 10 minute intervals when the pain subsided from home remedies. By 8:30am Monday I had not heard back from her office so I called. The office assistant whose name I could not understand was the complete opposite of compassionate. I asked if she had received my message and she said yes. And she had the nerve to ask me why I did not go to the ER. I explained that I would rather not have spent hundreds of dollars on something that would likely be fixed by an ER visit. So I asked if they could see me (bear in mind it is painful to talk). She told me I could come in at 2pm. I told her I might call around and see if I can get in somewhere sooner because I am in an extreme amount of pain. She said that even if I came in at 2 it would just be for a consult and doctor wouldn't do any work. I about lost it on this all too important secretary. Sure that may be their policy and I understand such things as policy but first the fact that she did not call me back, then the fact that I had to coax an emergency appointment out of her and now this. That did it. I explained to her that I would be finding someone else to take my probably expensive bad tooth to. She was not fazed. I'm sure this dentist is nice for routine check ups and what not but guess what? Life if full of surprises. Some are good and some are bad. Toothache falls into the bad category and the least I expect from my dentist is a little compassion and a desire to do her job and help.

I rarely leave reviews, but I feel compelled to share my experience. I had been receiving Candid…read moretreatment at this office and had generally intended to finish my treatment despite some earlier communication issues. There was confusion regarding my treatment and a voicemail I received about trays. I later met with the office manager to clear things up, and although we remembered parts of the situation differently, I went out of my way to apologize for the confusion (even though this was clearly not just on my end) and thought we had agreed to move forward. At my next appointment, instead of discussing my treatment, the dentist immediately became confrontational. He told me that "his entire staff" thought I complained every time I came into the office. Which is not true, I have mentioned it to the hygienist due to sensitivity or joked to staff to take the bare minimum off because I hate the feeling of an ipr. I have never criticized the dentist. I simply have concerns about one tooth. I was also told previously that an assistant had reported I used profanity on a phone call, something I genuinely do not believe I said, and the manager had not personally heard it. (Also went in with a smile on my face, with contractions and days away from giving birth. Because I wasn't seeking any form of drama.) As a patient, I found it upsetting that staff opinions were being presented to me rather than focusing on my care. When I tried to explain that there seemed to have been communication issues, I was interrupted. The conversation took place in front of my young child. I left without completing my treatment because I no longer felt comfortable or respected. Patients should be able to ask questions, express concerns about sensitivity, and seek clarification without feeling labeled as a "complainer." I also am not, nor ever said that I am seeking perfection. I requested another set of trays because we paid a lot of money for these and I have spent a lot of time to quit now. So again making me feel like I am asking too much for basic care. I hope the office reflects on how patients are spoken to, especially when misunderstandings occur. Respectful communication goes a long way. Assuming the worst in someone, without clarifying, is not a good like for any business, especially in medical.

She made calls and assured me that they were in the dental network. I made two initial payments of totaling about $400. After a few months had gone by, I received a bill for $467+ . The insurance only paid $38.00 because they were not actually in the network of Trout Dental. Times are difficult financially, which was the reason I preferred a dentist in the network. When I received a threatening letter for payment, I immediately texted the dental office staff were not empathetic nor understanding at all. Today, I received a collection notice. I read other reviews before attempting to write this to find out that this has happened often. My suggestion to anyone going to Brook Trout make sure your insurance is accepted to the fullest otherwise, you will be footing an unexpected bill. Really sad because the Dentist is one of the nicest people to encounter.

They messed up and are not willing to take responsibility and apologize or work with you to solve the problem. They "can't recall" the moment when I presented my new insurance and of course my insurance was never billed or notified, my old insurance was confused and even paid the 80% co-pay (yes, I had an awesome insurance company). They were not able to call me or my spouse to notify us on what was happening. I understand their policies, but if they had paid attention to the paperwork I gave them and done their job, this would have never happened in the first place. After 6 months, I call back Sutherland's office and they treated me as if I was refusing to pay, they even told me that they wont accept me as a patient anymore. That was great for me because I will not trust incompetent people and services. So they messed up my paper work, they did not charge my new insurance, and they treat me horrible as if I wanted free services. I do not usually write reviews, but I will not let other customers be surprised by their bad services and horrible communication skills. Dr Sutherland is an OK dentist, I've had better. He is too tough working on your mouth so he ALWAYS has to use anesthesia to "avoid pain".
