I found the house warm, almost cozy with the velvet and dark colors. The house is in very good shape and it is clean. You get to see all the different rooms, living room, bed room, dining room etc. There is back staircase that the servants used. The other treasure about this museum is the gift shop. I found the gifts unique. Lot of special Christmas ornaments, but other gifts also. Outside the house the grounds are well kept and well designed. There is a fountain and the garden has a circular design to it. It is not substantial enough to travel from afar to visit, but if you are in Fall River, or near, definitely take the tour.

Our…read moretour guide was more than happy to provide a thorough history of the area and answered all of our questions. I learned so much from this museum. So much to see and so many stories. The house itself is gorgeous! I had no idea that there were so many artifacts from the Lizzie Borden trial housed here. We visited the Borden House later that day and as far as actual artifacts, this museum has them all, not the Borden House. If you are interested in the Lizzie Borden trial at all, come here! I also enjoyed the circular dining room and the clothing exhibit upstairs. I highly recommend this museum to anyone visiting the area. It is a treasure trove of information! Also worth noting is the museum gift shop. Fantastic selection of merch. Literally something for everyone. I loved how the gift shop extended upstairs and included items for the bath. My favorite find was the Lizzie Borden paperdolls, complete with the outfits worn at the trial! Solid 5 stars.

When I booked the tickets I thought it was a good idea, turned out to be a GREAT idea! I grew up just a few miles away and have driven by Hearthside thousands of times (no lie I now drive by twice a day to get to work) and have never been inside. Tonight my intrigue has been fed. Beautiful house, restored and maintained nicely. The volunteers are knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions. They were well equipped with information not only about the house but also about a former resident who passed away inside and even more about Victorian mourning traditions. Our tour was 6:30pm so it added to the slightly eerie feel the night before Halloween, entering in dark. The tour group was kept small (about 9 of us) which I think was the perfect size to move about through the house but also to fit in the size of the rooms. The volunteers were all dressed in proper Victorian attire and the house was prepared for mourning and a wake. A few tips when visiting the house: 1. Contrary to my thought of it being an old house and probably a little cold, the heat was roaring inside. 2. There are stairs and touring this house requires a lot of standing 3. This specific tour does go into deep detail about embalming, not for the faint of heart 4. My daughter enjoyed the tour and understood almost everything with little explanation. I would say not suitable for kids under 10 years old. A beautiful house filled with people who very much care about the stories that lie within its deep history. Well worth visiting. RIP Simon Eddy Thornton.

There's so many hidden things here and there that are in plain sight but you can't tell because there's trees and other beautiful things surrounding it. Came here with my husband for a tea event, and the grounds alone were breathtaking and relaxing. There is a trail that you can walk. There's also a gift shop and a pond and it's just also peaceful. Very serene view of mother nature I can see anybody being able to paint at this gorgeous peaceful area. You should definitely go online and see upcoming events. They have whiskey tasting gin tasting tea events if you like tea like I do, and even though I am more of a tequila person, I would definitely come for a whiskey tasting event. The pictures I took do not do it any justice as far as how beautiful the scenery is. When you get a chance, you should definitely come down here and might as well buy a family membership if you have a family so that you can come back more than once.

Its a little wonkey in that you have to go outside through a courtyard to get to the 2nd part of the musuem, which I would imagine is a major inconvenience during colder or inclement weather. It was the perfect excuse to get dressed up and try something new, with a twist of course... delicious cocktails. The Edgar Allan Poe experience itself was really well done. The actors were fantastic and fully committed to their roles. I loved the costumes and the dramatic personalities. It made the whole evening feel immersive without being over the top. I'm actually at the museum about once a month for meetings, so it was fun to see the space used in a completely different way. My only wish is that we had a little more time to wander and take in the current exhibits, because it's such a beautiful setting. My one real downside is parking. With the recent changes, it has become pretty difficult to find a spot that is easy to get in and out of, especially during a New England winter. Definitely something to plan ahead for. Overall, such a unique and memorable night. I would absolutely recommend grabbing your friends and checking this out if it comes back around.

When we visited, they had some very interesting exhibits. The one that interested me the most was "Sacred is Sacred: The Art of Protecting Bears Ears." It was very interesting and well-displayed. Why only three stars for this interesting and free museum? Well, it's tiny. It's essentially a single room. And I would think (given the size) that the likelihood of someone enjoying the museum is very dependent on the quality of the exhibits at the time of the visit. But it's free - so if you're walking around Brown, stop in! You never know what you'll find!

At the time, not as many flowers were in bloom as I had hoped to see, so much of the garden looked very green and it was sometimes tricky to tell if I had already walked through a section. That said, the scenery was still beautiful, and I can only imagine how stunning it must look when everything is fully bloomed. Sakonnet itself is such a unique place a secret garden carved into coastal fields, designed to feel like an intimate, winding cottage garden with paths that lead you to unexpected spaces. Knowing the history and the care that's gone into creating it over decades makes me appreciate it even more. I'd definitely love to come back later in the season to see it in full bloom

My friend and I made reservations for the first time entry time on Saturday, June 21, 2025. The website was easy to use to make the reservations. Since I drove us there, we chose the Garden Visit (Car, driver, and optional passengers) + 1 additional passenger option. The parking spot with driver is $25.00 and the additional passenger was $20.00. The other option is Garden Visit for walkers (foot) and bikers that is $20.00. Tickets are nonrefundable once purchased. We arrived a few minutes before 9:30am and parked in one of the numbered parking spots provided in the designated area adjacent to the garden. Then, we found the garden entrance and checked in with the staff member. The staff member instructed us where to start and then we started to explore the labyrinth of plants. There were so many plants, hedges, and a big meadow. It was really beautiful, but I wish there was a map or list of the different plants we were looking at. The red mughal pavilion was falling apart and blocked off. My friend and I spent about an hour exploring the garden. The weather was gorgeous, not a cloud in the sky. You can definitely tell the caretakers really take a good care of the lands. At the end before leaving to the parking lot, a friendly pony greeted us and there was a table of plants for sale.

The Nature Lab is a repository of plants, animals, and minerals, both alive and dead, which was started as a resource for RISD students. They have a pretty amazing collection, and anyone can go in and check it all out. A nonexhaustive list of cool stuff in there: trilobite fossils, live snakes and birds, at least a hundred stuffed animals, a mummified cat head, and hoards of bones and skulls - including real human skeletons. They have a lot of space to draw if that's your thing. My only wish is that more stuff was identified - the material in the lab obviously isn't rigorously curated. It could be a great resource for scientists if it were!
