Let me preface this by saying: I hate shopping. Loathe it. Wish I had a magical shopping fairy to find cute things that fit me and bring them home for me, and also do the laundry and so forth. While my team of researchers is working on that, I'm forced to make do with the resources at hand. Fortunately for me, there's The Magic Store.
Commonly known as The Clothing Loft Resale, this place is more aptly named The Magic Store because, well, it is magic. From the outside, it doesn't necessarily look like a place that I'd want to spend a lot of time in. It's in a strip mall, and has a deceiving facade that's more reminiscent of old lady clothes than its true nature: magic. However, once I'm inside, you should pretty much plan to drag me out kicking and screaming, or just wait it out until they close. (The latter is usually the case.)
The reason I call this place The Magic Store is because they have TONS of adorable dresses, virtually all of them in my size, from high-end labels and everything is within my price range. Think Bebe wrap dress for $20-40. I got this awesome nude colored ruffly dress thing for like $12, and on that particular trip left with two dresses and two pairs of great shoes for less than $70. I also acquired The Magic Coat here - you may have seen it, my full-length green coat with butterfly buttons, made from material that could have been upholstery. My theory is that it's made from the curtains in the grandmother's house where the closet to Narnia can be found, and since I am the sole arbiter of the history of said Magic Coat, that's in fact the origin of the material. Yep.
So I loved Lafayette long before I was introduced to The Magic Store, but now it's much easier to justify the 5 hour drive (round trip). Not that I don't adore my Lafayette friends and want to visit them very much. Of course I do! I just also want to visit The Magic Store, as well. Preferably *with* my Lafayette friends, which is often the case.
And that, my friends, is why Lafayette is awesome. Hooray for The Magic Store! I can't wait to go back. read more
