We felt like we were in someone else's home. Someone who had a lot more money than us! Martins isn't just a builder, or a designer. He's an artist. When you bring someone into your home to change it forever, you have to trust that person. When Martins came by for our first free consultation (something other people had charged us for), he stayed for two hours. He wanted to get to know us, and figure out exactly what kind of home we wanted. To say he cares about his work is an understatement! Other people we looked at charged us for that first visit, came in, took measurements, were out in 30 minutes, and then provided some cookie-cutter recommendations. Besides his off-the-charts talent, he is honest, flexible, responsive and easy and fun to work with... not to mention reasonable. He even provided us with guidance and recommendations to bring the overall costs down. If you're looking to do renovations on your home, that not only are beautiful, but also unique and specific to you and your family, your search is over. Martins Buka will not only deliver, but exceed your expectations!

Natalia has been incredibly helpful in guiding us through big, impactful design decisions that are practical and thoughtful, while also keeping costs reasonable since we don't want to invest too much in a rental property. I also didn't want an interior designer to fully design every detail of the place. I wanted to be involved in choosing pieces myself, but have someone I could trust to advise me on whether things would actually work in our space, and Natalia has been perfect for that. I'll text her with questions about furniture purchases, design ideas, or even quick installation decisions when our maintenance guy is here, and she always responds right away. My husband is also very picky, but he has been genuinely impressed with her advice and with how our place has come together. I know Natalia takes on much larger and more expensive projects than ours, but I have never once felt like we were wasting her time. She has always been responsive, kind, and very professional. I highly recommend Natalia to anyone looking for practical, thoughtful design guidance that respects your time and budget. We'll definitely be working with her again on our next home project whenever we move.

The bathroom project included removing the bathtub and replacing it with a walk-in shower, new flooring, cabinetry, lighting, paint -- essentially a complete transformation. In addition, they completed a kitchen refresh that included painting, removing and replacing countertops, installing a new kitchen faucet, and updating the hardware. Both spaces turned out beautifully and feel completely upgraded. Not only was the quality of work excellent, but the project was finished ahead of schedule, which is almost unheard of in renovations. What truly set Angie and Stanley apart was communication and trust. I was not physically at the condo during the remodel, yet I always felt completely informed and confident in the progress. Their communication was clear, proactive, and consistent from start to finish. I also live in a building with a very strict HOA and tight security requirements, and they handled every rule, procedure, and restriction professionally and without issue. This alone was a huge relief and made the entire process stress-free. Angie's design guidance, Stanley's craftsmanship, and their shared professionalism and attention to detail made this an outstanding experience. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone -- especially condo owners who need a team that understands logistics, building rules, and how to deliver high-quality work without hand-holding. If you're looking for a designer and contractor you can truly trust, Angie Joy and Stanley are exceptional.

Reader, he remembered us from a month ago--the only other time I've been in this store. I know he wasn't just saying that because he cooed over my baby and specifically remarked about the fact that she was awake this time instead of sleeping through the shopping trip (which was true). This is what makes shopping at local businesses so much fun; you get to established a rapport with someone who lives what they do, lives their neighbors, and wants to make sure that you enjoy shopping with them. Again as I came through I thought about how I wish I could hire an interior designer with Kenneth Ludwig on the shortlist. They didn't disappoint with their Christmas decor. They have lots of ornaments, all beautiful, and other holiday items. I REALLY love the stocking holders they have. They look like those old ceramic Christmas trees that lots of our grandmothers had, and it even lights up. I am almost certainly going to be returning before Christmas to pick up a couple. If you're in the neighborhood, I highly encourage a drop by.

I stopped by Kenneth Ludwig Chicago because I learned he sells CR Laine furniture and that is the brand I had my eye on. Upon arriving, Kenneth was welcoming and listened to what I wanted. I did end up purchasing a settee from Kenneth and that was about 1.5 years ago. The buying process was simple. The small couch is still in great shape, easy to clean, and looks great in my house. It was on the pricier side of furniture, but I not a shocking price. I will consider going back to Kennth Ludwig Chicago when purchasing my next nice piece of furniture.

Ultimately, we decided to hire a professional to help us out and it was one of the best decisions we've made! When looking at designers to work with, I loved Carly's aesthetic. She made me feel comfortable with the timeline of the projects and the scope depending on my budget and desire to be involved. Carly helped design our living room, extra dining area space (we decided we wanted to repurpose the area as a conversation/cocktail sitting area), master bedroom, guest room/office, and daughter's room. We split up the projects based on priority and gave Carly clear direction when she provided inspiration boards. She picked some design elements that I never would have picked (dark blue accent wall, antelope carpet runner, a bold chandelier for our entryway, etc) but once she showed us, I immediately loved it and felt it fit! The experience with Carly at Unpatterned was fantastic because she really listened and understood the aesthetic we were going for and knew how and when to push for elements that she felt were important. Now, more than ever while we are quarantining at home, we LOVE that our home is colorful, reflects our personality, and is also way more sophisticated than we could've done on our own. For anyone at home right now with design projects in mind, call Carly!

I have pinterest boards galore and know pretty much what I want, but I don't necessarily trust my contractor on telling me what tile goes with the cabinets, or what counters are the best for bathrooms vs. the kitchen, etc. After speaking with Carly, I thought we were both on the same page, however she came back with a quote for 70+ hours of work. Which would be completely understandable if I just wanted her to take over the design of my entire house. But I didn't. I let her know I was looking more for guidance of certain decisions, and 10-20 hours was what I had budget for. I even asked if she could just prioritize the kitchen or master bath. She then said she could just do a 1-day/6-hour day with me where we went to two showrooms, and this would be $1,600. I told her, I really just needed some guidance and visiting showrooms didn't make sense (I had already picked out cabinets/plumbing fixtures) and I mentioned that I was disappointed she would not work with me. I never received a response. Her website claims that Unpatterned is "founded on the principle that there isn't a singular approach to design (or life)," that the "process is customized to each client," and that they "are committed to adapting to a variety of budgets." Apparently that is all talk. Unless you plan on spending tens of thousands of dollars on design, you are not worth their time.
