We were welcomed with a tour of the lovely grounds and a tasting of a number of their vintages, and stayed in an adorable room in the historic house. In the morning, they lay out a very nice continental breakfast and you can chat with your fellow guests while planning out your wine country activities for the day. I highly recommend this chateau and their delicious wines (the 2010 and 2012 are particularly good).

It's a bit hard to classify Le Pavillion -yes it is small, 5 rooms, and yes they offer a nice French breakfast but they are much more than a small Inn or B&B as the owners, Julian and Nikki make you feel more like family. They are two Australians who came to the area 12 months ago for a 6-month stay and never left. They have certainly found their true calling and run a clean, comfy deluxe place that they bought and remodeled some years ago. Our room, Cardinal, was on the 2nd floor (1st to the French) as are most rooms. The room was quite large with lots on light from two 6 foot high windows that can we opened to let in the fresh air. The bathroom was large with a modern rain shower. The inn is surrounded on three sides by a small vineyard which made for a nice view. There are also vineyards across the street stretching off into the distance. Despite this idyllic setting, the small town of Saint-Emilion is only a two minute (or less) walk away and there are many great restaurants all within 10 minutes so even without a car you can easily take full advantage of the small town. As for their hospitality either Nikki or Julian are around most of the day with ideas for sight seeing or wine tasting (they owned a local vineyard for a while so know their stuff) and are happy to recommend restaurants and set up reservation. As they are native English speakers their are no language issues what so ever. In the afternoon, there is always coffee, tea, water snacks and an open bottle if local wine and you can just help yourself, This is a really great find and so much more peaceful to stay just outside of bustling Saint-Emilion.

I believe I emailed the hotel at least two dozen times with various questions about the spa, the restaurant, bike rentals, airport transportation and more, and every time their responses were prompt and helpful, including getting us a table at the restaurant even though their reservation system indicated they were booked. At the hotel, the front desk, bar, and restaurant staff were wonderful - friendly and very helpful. It helps, by the way, if you make even a modicum of effort to speak french - say Bonjour or Bonsoir (good day or good evening), say s'il vous plait (please), and say merci (thank you). In that way, you don't come off like an arrogant tourist. The hotel itself, as you can probably tell from the photos, is beautiful and no expense is spared for your comfort. The rooms are large and welcoming. The beds and very comfortable and the bathrooms and showers are great. We had a beautiful patio overlooking the vineyards. The back of the hotel has outside tables overlooking a beautiful courtyard as well as some lounge chairs to relax in. Pool looked good, but we didn't use it. Location is great. It's about 3-3.5 km from the village using a lesser used road/bike path behind the hotel (as opposed to the main road which might be a bit too dangerous). I would call it an easy bike ride, but its a hilly area and it's a bit strenuous to get there. Much easier on the way back. There are taxis, if biking isn't your thing. Melissa used the spa but unfortunately, I waited too long to reserve a treatment and wasn't able to go myself. But during her spa treatment, I had a nice time at the bar chatting with the bartender about French whiskeys and trying a few myself. Finally, our meal was absolutely superb. Besides a cheese plate (wonderful), some wine (from Saint Emilion, of course, and delicious) and a tray of small appetizers from the kitchen, I got the John Dory confit, which is a meaty white fish. It was excellent. One of my favorite meals in our 9 days in Bordeaux. This hotel spoiled me for all hotels in the future. I don't know why we would ever travel anywhere ever again but to Saint Emilion just to stay at this hotel.

When you enter, you are basically in an adorable and open living room and kitchen with classic French finishes and decor. Our room was clean, everything was updated and there were plenty of electrical plugs for our devices. The owners are so wonderful and kind. I wish I lived there and we could all be friends. Thank you Maria, Gerant and Blaise for making our stay so special. We also appreciate the suggestions to eat and wine taste. We have stayed in many places similar to this ,but none as nice and good as La Maison Colline…read more The location is outstanding, so close to the center of the city, and the wonderful sights St Emilion is famous for. The owners were helpful in guiding us to the places we described as our kind of places we wanted to visit. They were willing to make reservations at Wineries, restaurants and whatever we asked they had good suggestions to offer. Our room was cozy and beautiful and had a view of the downtown area and the lovely Church in the city center. We plan on going back and staying there again.

I was in the area for a beautiful wedding at a nearby Château and feeder took great care of me and the other wedding guests. The bed was extremely comfortable, the location was gorgeous & so relaxing, and the breakfast that Vida cooked for us was filling and yummy. Vida is very hospitable and chatted with us every morning at breakfast. The home has been lovingly renovated and there are some nice areas to sit outside and soak in the scenery. It's close to the vineyards and to a winding countryside bike path so be sure to rent a bike and to explore the area. (Bikehiredirect.com will deliver a bike to the hotel and pick up when u r done). It is recommended that you rent a car if you're staying here because the nearby town of St. Emilion is a must see and it's great to have a car to drive through all of the vineyards to see the scenery around. A bike is better but for longer distances a car is recommended.
