Just a few hundred metres away from the main Clontarf reserve, towards the Spit Bridge, is a great little beach that is may favourite spot to take my dog in the warmer months for a run and a swim. It's very flat and the water is quite shallow, so it's great for smaller dogs as well who may not be the strongest swimmers and appreciate deep water and waves. If the weather is good, there'll always be plenty of dogs around, and everyone is very friendly. There's even a few free parking spots down the end, if you get one of them in time (most of the parking at Clontarf Reserve is metered). Just be warned that if it's high tide, there may not be much of the beach left.
(Note that there's actually no sign that says dogs are allowed off leash, but there's no sign saying they have to be on leash, like at the main reserve, and there's always plenty of dogs off leash.) read more
