Terrific, kind, and friendly service here. We came for a clarinet repair, and the owners went out of their way to get it done before the holidays. I should add that they also came to the rescue months ago, when my son had a trumpet with a dented mouthpiece that he just couldn't remove. The owners are both super kind and helpful every time we stop in, and always willing to help answer any questions a budding musician might have. Why go anywhere else?!? I've walked past this store many times, but never had a need to stop and shop. On this occasion, I needed to replace a specific guitar string and had my guitar with me. I walked in and asked if they could sell me a replacement string and rather than saying "sure, here you go, here's your string," Bruce offered to look at the guitar and check the other strings. He suggested that all the other strings could be replaced, but not necessary. I took him up on his recommendation and he also said he could his replace the strings for an additional $15. Better him than me, I thought. He told me it would take about 2 hours, so I left my guitar and said I would return later. He not only replaced our strings, he gave us titanium strings--the sound is so much cleaner and sharper. It took just over an hour. This is a small neighborhood shop that truly cares about their customers. Don't waste you time with big box, corporate music shops. This is the place to go!! I don't know why it took me so long to come here. read more

It's a cute neighborhood music store. You'll find lots of music accessories as well as music books. A lot of the music books that I used while learning flute back in middle and high school were still being published, to my delight. The covers and the content I'm sure didn't really change over the years. I bought a flute music book that had a lot of hits from the 2010's. It seems like a fun, light read. I did notice that a lot of the books in the section seemed a bit worn on the edges, which indicated that perhaps people thumb through these books a lot? read more

Clock Tower Music is exactly what I'm looking for in a neighborhood music store!! The owner was so sweet and amazingly helpful. I'm debating whether I want to pick up an instrument, and he let me try some out. He also gave me a free flute fingering chart, which was a bonus! I'm used to going to the Guitar Center near Union Square NYC -- which is large, impersonal, and filled with people running around -- and leaving a bit stressed. Clock Tower Music was the opposite. All in all, it was a wonderful experience. STORE The store occupies a long space. Guitars and ukeleles hang on the walls, as well as instrument accessories. There's a rehearsal/instruction space in the middle and then there seems to be an open space in the back. CTM just started offering its first ukelele group lessons. read more

What a great, unpretentious little store! I just had a great experience here, where the owner took a look at my daughter's sax, fixed the octave bar on the spot, diagnosed the rest of the problems and agreed to fix it all for $25 in a couple of days. As a contrast, another music store down in Mountain View quoted me $75 and would have me wait 2 months to have it fixed, perhaps hoping that they would get some rental business from me. I called Clock Tower earlier this week to inquire about consignment of a 3/4 violin. They told me they do sell 3/4 partial size violins and so I should bring it in to have Brian assess its value. I specifically asked about Brian's hours at the store, and they assured me he is always in. So I drove down to the store with the violin, only to be told I needed to wait a minute because he had just stepped out. Obviously that's not a problem, but it turned out he had stepped out for lunch and (event though it was 2:30 pm). After waiting a while, an employee eventually called him and also specifically asked if he would be interested in looking at a 3/4 size violin for consignment. He said yes, so I waited until he came back from lunch. Before even looking at my violin, he stated that he doesn't consign 3/4 size violins. Excuse me?! Thanks, Clock Tower, for the worst customer service ever. read more

Clock Tower Music has the feel of an old neighborhood store. You get personalized service from their very knowledgeable staff. Brian, who does the repairs, has been exceptional! I cannot count how many times he has tightened a screw or tweaked something on a sax to make it sound like a new instrument, often for nothing. Compared to other music stores, Brian has always given honest estimates, going over the whole list of recommended repairs and pointing out which are most necessary and which can wait. He has never overcharged for repair work. In fact, I find Clock Tower to have the most reasonable repair pricing out of all shops we have tried between south San Francisco and Redwood City. It probably helps that he is a sax player. The other day, I was considering purchasing new reeds. My plan was to buy a whole box and get a bulk discount, but the owner of the shop was quick to point out that I should ask the music teacher first, because my child might need to graduate to a different reed this year. So, instead of spending a considerable amount of money on something that might be rendered useless in a month or two, she saved me the trouble and money, and gave me valuable insight. These are qualities that I find hard to come by and appreciate greatly! read more
