The Clocktower Brew Pub is a great little spot to hang out in Ottawa offering a really nice menu alongside the showpiece micro-brews which they are known for. The MacKay Street location also has a great patio that's perfectly situated for people watching but as the colder months approach you'll be happy to eat in where the interior has been made cosy with the stone walls and cool accents like bar lighting made from beer kegs. There were five micro brews on the menu including the seasonal pumpkin beer. We ordered a sampler tray- which is five 8oz glasses (you decide how many of each type of beer). It comes to about the equivalent of 2 pints, only costs $12.95 and is a great way to try something new! The pumpkin beer was my hubbie's favourite. It really smelled and tasted of nutmeg which made for a cool combo of flavours but it was a bit too bitter for my taste. I preferred the Clocktower Red. All that plus a very chilled vibe and exceedingly nice wait staff equals one good time! read more

I live within walking distance of this pub, but I vow never to return for a meal. I don't believe being a watering hole is an excuse for serving bad food. I came in with a friend for shelter from the rain and a late lunch. We ordered coffee and our respective meals. The fish tacos were absolutely tasteless, I mean taste-minus-taste (anything mahi mahi should not be bland). The chicken tikka masala on the other hand was over-spiced (not over-seasoned but too hot to taste/bear). I begrudgingly powered through my tacos but my friend had to reorder and went for the safety pick- nachos. These too were surprisingly void of taste- quite the feat really. We ended up getting dessert to try to walk away happy. The Baileys cheesecake was okay but a really small portion and the lava chocolate cake was a pass. $46+ tip later we walked out still feeling hungry and wishing we'd stayed home for lunch. The one star here goes to the waiter who, while unfriendly, remained professional (ie. did his job; maybe he should have the chefs' look into doing the same). Overall- so so sooooo disappointing. I RECOMMEND: Sticking to the bar. We were the only ones eating. Fool me once! EXTRA TIP: There's a bit of a trip hazard by the doorway leading to the washrooms. Saw two people freefall. Been a fan of Clocktower since they opened and watched them evolve over the years - however, the latest iteration is a turn for the worse. Recent visit for burgers and beer resulted in being served the saltiest burger ever. Seems Clock tower now surreptitiously douses their burgers with Montreal Steak Spice. Then there is their latest version of 'salad' - this is now shredded dried kale with a couple of small cucumber quarters. And don't bother asking for salad and pub fries as your half and half side option - seems Clock Tower no longer has lost the ability to portion their pub fries. This them leaves just an expensive very limited menu and declining food service. Seems they also no longer stand behind their dining experience either- their new response is to a bad dining experience is 'we'll let people know', So as a public service, please let people know that Clock Tower has taken a turn for the worse. read more

Really fab place to be seen [what a scene] and I think the waitstaff know it... The decor was different with large graphic text promoting the available brew. The menu creative. I was traveling with a group so definitely got to order and sample a bunch of small plates. Some better than others...what I remember most was the total lack of service. No greeting, waitress yells out the special....delay in coming back to the table to get drink orders. Drinks delivered and then another delay in getting food orders. Once food is delivered another delay and visit to get untensils and napkins. I did however appreciate the microbrews which were tasty. Don't know it that's enough for me to come back....maybe if they improved their customer service! read more

We went here a week or two ago for dinner. It was pretty busy, so we had to wait about 5-10 minutes for a table for two. Once seated, we were greeted almost immediately by our friendly server who took our drink orders -- beer, of course. :) For food, we started with an order of onion rings and they were delicious, hot, and crispy... and the onion didn't pull out completely when you took a bite. It came with some hot dipping sauce (hot mayo?) I ordered the angry goat burger (goat cheese and hot pepper rings on it). My friend had the Canuck burger. We both thoroughly enjoyed them. The beer was awesome. Between us we tried four of their beers (can't recall which ones...) I can't wait for the warmer weather to arrive so we can sit on the patio. read more

Pretty yummy dinner tonight, my sweetie ordered the kimchi fries, an appetizer, for his main and I had the special of Southwest perogies which was really tasty. Joe found the beers he tried, the Kolsh wasn't very good and the bitter was more like a pale ale. Nice to sit outside in the sun though and the waitstaff were friendly if not particularly attentive. read more

Live around the corner... for $19 I expect a good fish and chips especially at a pub. Frozen fries, soggy and stale tasting coleslaw. My castle for a decent pub! Go for rhe beer but skip the pub food. read more

Only brewpub in the city, best wings in the city & best pub-fare in the city. Tuesday NIghts are especially rocking as it's wing-night and cheap domestic beer night. Good place to watch Sens games. Nice decor, good service and decent prices. I recommend both locations. read more

Not impressed. Ate here once for lunch and the food was ok but service was awful. Gave it another try when we had friends in town wanting to try local brew. Most of the brews were just ok. The food was not very good except the fish and chips. I was also charged extra for something that was presented as an option at ordering without informing me it would cost extra. I've been to both the Bank Street Glebe location (many times) and also the New Edinburgh location. The menu is standard pub fare. Nothing particularly outstanding or inspiring, but it was located across the street from where I lived so it was a convenient last-minute meeting place. For those who are into beer, I am told the selection is surprisingly disappointing for a pub that claims to be into microbrews. However, I will give it kudos for making off-menu poutine when the craving hits (even if they do use shredded mozzarella cheese rather than curds). And the pub is spacious and has a great patio. read more

I went there for wings on a Tuesday night a couple weeks ago. It was packed but service was good. Our server was happy to go over the specials on food and drinks for the night. We ordered the wings as they were on special. They were decent - not under cooked or thawed. I ordered two portions. The first were slightly more saucy - which I enjoyed the 2nd not as saucy - overall, quite decent. Not sure I'd say they were value for money considering they were small in size for the price. read more

Stopped with my fiancee tonight. She had one of their hamburgers. With about 3 bites left she noticed it was quite rare. So I told her not to eat the rest maybe just that part was rare. Well now she is puking her guts up. I called clocktower and asked to speak to their manager. His response was "well what do you want us to do? we cant just see inside the hamburger to see if its ready." when i responded saying um really? thats a terrible response, saying we cant possibly know so oops. then all i heard was the click of the phone hanging up. The special brews are nothing to write home about. The service can be VERY slow, even when it's not busy. I once walked in on a slow night and was rushed through my order by staff who wanted to close early. The menu (standard pub fare) is minimal, weakly executed and overpriced. I have eaten here a number of times, for the sake of convenience only. The nachos are boring and half-hearted at best, you get tortillas with barely any toppings and a tub of sour cream - noting else (also, if you order it to go, they throw out your tub of sour cream while packing it up for you. This happened more than once). The last time I was here my beer was served to me with a water glass in which to pour it. Kind of felt like drinking wine from a plastic child's cup. I'm not usually a snob about this kind of thing, but I have drank the same beer there before and know that they have that brand's specific drinking glasses in which to serve. This is a place I only go to because it is close to where I live, and even then I try my best to avoid going more than once a year. There are many other pubs in the city with better food, better prices, and better service. read more

Yuk,,, I ordered steak and fries...fries ok -- steak,,, like burnt on the outside and rare on the inside.. learn how to thaw your frozen steak first MAN... next,,, the chx wings... well douced in salt... i mean salt sauce,, NO i mean sauce... Not the servers fault... who was nice,,, but realy,,,, my partners, stuff came over cooked,,, and most of the stuff was not on the menu... like ok its Monday aft... in ottawa,,, and the server says we can't get most of the stuff 'cause we ran out yesterda... realy busy day.. ok LIKE you can't go down the street and get some freak'n spaghetti at NICASTROS... or other shit... man even Quebec isopen... like you got hundreds of customers and you can't get a "partner" to get stuff on a business day.. well like the other dudes on the market,,, get ready to GO UNDER with your stupid mgt. policy... what a place,, salt bags in every dish.,,,,, overcooked,,, and yep covered is sauce that makes you send it back half uneaten...
