Soon after his arrival, my son needed an 80 percent blood transfusion due to complications and Dr. Feld was on call in the St. Mary's NICU that night. It took him hours to do the transfusion as it had to be done manually by hand. We decided to stay with him as a pediatrician after this and I am forever thankful for such a caring, experienced doctor for both my children. Throughout several other situations over the years, everyone at Tots and Teens has always been top notch and treated my children with the upmost concern and attention. His knowledge, thoroughness, and genuine care is second to none. I have referred friends to this office and only good things have come back to me. I will forever credit Dr. Feld with saving my son Christmas Eve night 2002! If I could give him 100 stars I would!!!!!

We needed multiple visits just to get tubes put in about a year back. Staff can be insensitive to parental concerns, and deflect to calling parents abrasive. Total loss of trust and confidence in their ability to practice medicine on my children. When I arrived to pick up my records, DR James said he has 7-10 business days, smiled and said he'll be taking the 10 business days to deliver the record, and invited me to leave. I asked ,"really just because I'm leaving? A child is in need." He had no remorse, smiled, and said yup! And again invited me to leave, which I did calmly but very confused on how this could be legal. Very sad day for Oak Ridge TN Health Care System.

Overall 3/5 for now, and will update as we go back…read more +1 - location - great to be close by! +1 - venue - appreciate the sick/well sides and the rooms are colorful for kiddos to look at +1 - cleanliness - everything looked very clean and not run down at all -2 - check-in and service - story time: When we were researching a place near the birth of our recent kiddo we received the recommendation of this place at least 15+ times from separate folks who certainly didn't know each other. Thinking that there must be something to it we worked to get in...that's when it started. First call was rough to get the initial appt; there was an abrasive tone on the other end asking tons of questions that felt a bit unnecessary. After we probed to understand why, we were told "well we have to be sure that you don't have kids anywhere else", well um we said i was our FIRST but whatever, looking over it. On the actual appointment day we had a similar check-in experience as one of the other reviewers I read here. Not sure if they were "hangry" or something since it was around lunch. Anyway, looking over it but now growing concerns. We get called back and in a matter of a few minutes we got him weighed and length measured, NBD, maybe things are getting better. Next, the NP comes back and is trying to talk and examine at the same time...glossing over our concerns about what appears to be an issue to dairy. These concerns were dismissed and we were told to go the full 2 weeks with dairy even in spite of our concerns. As we ask the last 5 questions the person stands with one foot out the door and back turned with little interest and providing quick answers. We were shocked. I just wanted out of there to find somewhere else immediately. When prompted for the next appt at checkout we refused and said we would not be back nor would ever see the NP again (and only the actual doctor going forward). We then were asked to walk through this with an office manager upon refusing to see the individual in question...we were asked to give it one more shot, so we shall see. Hoping it was an anomaly; we'd love to stay local and support here. Point of clarification: since we did not get the referral we hoped for we self-referred into a local GI place and have confirmed via blood in the stool that there was a dairy allergy indeed...now having to take longer to transition dairy out because we waited before we switched on poor advice. No one at the practice will probably read this...but i hope someone who needs this as a warning takes heed. What I'd say is, if your kid is generally okay and you just need to check a box for the visit then it's a great spot. If you have some issues, insist on seeing the Dr only for your visit. One may say this is dramatic...and to you I say walk in the shoes and situation or save your trolling for someone else. Maybe if it was the 5th kid and we had done this a thousand times before. But, with your first your emotions are heightened and you're still working through the scared and uncertainty phases. It definitely felt like the priority was being shoved through as a number versus a good experience for new parents.

Dr. Greg helped figured out what was going on when my son's appendix had burst and Dr. Abby was there for me when my 12 year old child was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. I was fortunate to have the staff care for all three of my children. Even when we have to see a nurse practitioner they have the same care and compassion to help with any medical issues which brought us into the office.

It took an hour to get her to calm down but they spent that EXTRA time to console her and we were able to get through it. I could not believe this place had 2 stars on yelp when looking it up. I just had to write a positive one.. we honestly will not go anywhere else. Dr. Morris goes out of his way to make sure his patients are taken care of and parents minds are at ease. This is not the kind of doctor that leaves work at work. You can absolutely tell this practice is a life's work for him! He stays late and gets the job done ! As for cleanliness, gloves are always on and changed when evaluating our toddler.

Outside of office hours he has listened to my concerns and helped me navigate my children's sicknesses in years past. My daughter saw Dr. Vargas, she was not warm or friendly as you expect a pediatrician to at least be able to fake. My daughter has never in her life been afraid of going to the doctor but she was upset after this appointment and there were no vaccines involved and she was not sick. My son is an infant. He saw Dr. Cheney. Dr. Cheney offered me some outdated advice on introducing solid foods. He suggested I could start cereals with my 4 month old. When I nicely said that our previous pediatrician had said this was outdated information he didn't allow me to finish what I was saying. If he had it would have been, "The American Academy of Pediatrics [something the clinic's website says he is a part of] and the World Health Organization both state that infants should receive only breast milk or formula for at least the first 6 months not 4-6. Meaning it is not safe or age appropriate to give cereal at 4 months." No he went to a non scientifically based defense mode saying, "The hard core annoying breastfeeding groups have made this up. They think you can give your children only breast milk and never introduce solids." Not only is that not true, as my argument is indeed a fact, it is unprofessional and he was trying to assert himself as dominant by trying to put me down for knowing my facts and being a breastfeeding mother. If that makes me a hard core annoying breastfeeder then I'd say there are a lot of formula feeding moms who are also hard core and annoying as they also care about the health of their children. There were other issues at this visit regarding vaccines but these were my main concerns. I am very concerned for the other patients in this clinic as doctors within a practice generally have sat down and agreed on their recommendations. This was all at a first visit so I'm certain there is more bad advice to be had there. We will be searching for a new clinic.

In my case this would only apply to the Nurse Practitioner, Misty Cottrell, not me. I had a multi year patient relationship where i would drive 35 miles each way up from Knoxville, keeping each appointment and dutifully adhering to every directive. THEN- one day when i recently suffered a heart attack, she was completely unimpressed. I was in the hospital for 10 days after receiving quadruple bypass open heart surgery. She could not see fit to express the minimal concern by even returning a phone call. When my care was turned over to her from the surgeon, she refused to fill prescriptions for the most nominal of painkillers and became surprisingly openly hostile, making me feel like some junkie in withdrawal just for asking for minimal relief. Watch out. You may feel you have a great relationship at first but that may all change once anything gets serious. She will be completely unreliable, assume zero responsibility for your care and have no compunction to become 'non-compliant' to her most loyal of patients and throw you out like garbage. Beware, also of an extremely incompetent office staff who she will be completely loyal to, not you.

This is not how ethical pediatric care is handled, and it shows a complete lack of respect for both families and continuity of care. We deserve providers who communicate openly, act professionally, and put children's needs ahead of office politics.
