There's a lovely cafe in the back, and a real range of things- from quality homewares, to clothes, and children's toys- with a really nice selection of cards and wrap too. I do like coming here on the run up to Christmas, as there are always lovely gifts and really beautiful decorations. It has been reduced in size slightly, but it's still a well tetris-ed expanse. Downstairs is mainly great kids toys, gifts, fancy goods and such, but at the back now is a very nice delicatessen/fancy food place, that does good chocolates, olives and the like. There are two nice women's clothes boutiques in the other half of the old shop. In fact Yarm as a whole has had a boom in little fancy boutiques in recent years. Perhaps this explains why Strickland and Holt has had to reduce its size. Shame Stockton couldn't head in that direction too. Or is it possible to fit in another pound shop?

I've added Venus Trading to my 'goth shops' list as they do sell some goth-style clothing at the back of the shop. They tend to increase the stock of goth clothes during the Whitby Gothic Weekend (and it seems they also increase their prices too!). If you're looking for a gift that's a bit different for someone then this is the place to go. They also have some amusing greetings cards which I always check out when I visit. The clothing they sell varies from 'hippy' to 'goth' so you can definitely buy something that will make you stand out from the crowd here! I tend regularly visit to buy incense, make up and jewellery from Venus Trading but not clothing. They have some great clothes but they're all a bit out of my price range and, as it's not a big shop, they don't have a good range of sizes.

Anyway it's a purple fronted shop and inside is all kinds of cards that you see in the likes of most shops but theres also some gorgeous but more expensive ones that have a kind of home made feel to them. There are loads of little gifts too - those little message cards, tatty teddies and stuff like pens with your name on. But I always find that Mainline has something just a bit different about it and you're pretty much guaranteed to always find a card you like. The shop is tiny and crammed full so watch your step as you'll be likely to send load of cards flying! It's also quite pricy in here.

You may need to ask for directions but once at the top of the high street near the Priory end there is a sign pointing the way to the shop. Inside its a tiny shop but wow it packs in so many things. This shop never fails to have what I need, it has some of the usual run of cards available but most of its stock is based around cards that offer that little something else. There are little nick nacks that always raise a laugh to customers browsing round. Fantastic staff who always make you feel like they have known you for ages!
