However, this little health food store has single handedly convinced me that big, face-less juggernauts like Whole Foods and to a lesser extent, Rachelle-Béry are erasing the beauty of shopping at stores like Johanne Verdon. This small, family-owned store, despite its size, is doing an amazing job of providing organic fresh produce and a huge selection of products at incredibly low prices. Although I may find myself shopping at other health food stores, I rarely find any other stores which are providing the same products for less than Johanne Verdon. Incidentally, I like to come in and see what fresh produce is on sale; as products close in on their expiration dates, they are deeply discounted by the employees. For example, I have purchased organic celery still in great shape for much less than conventional celery at the Metro grocery store. Lastly, Johanne Verdon has the most Weleda products that I have seen outside of Switzerland and for much, much less than other stores in Montreal!
