Fitness First Chatswood Platinum - Taken from the Fitness First website

I come to Chatswood to visit family, but I don't live here full time. When I'm here I need a gym…read moreand Fitness First is, as far as i can see, one of the few places that will give you a punch card. Other places you just have to pay membership or a full guest fee. I bought a 10-pass, which is about $8 cheaper, per visit, than paying a guest fee. The gym itself is nice. It leans more towards classes and weight training than cardio, so if it's just a ton of cardio machines you're after, this might not be the place. That said, you can at least usually always find a free cardio machine, if that's what you want. They have a great range of classes. They always have a 6am class but then the next classes are usually around 9. Is it just me that thinks it's weird that there aren't many 7 or 8am classes. Like most there there's just an empty time slot. Odd. The staff are very friendly, especially at the front desk.

Recently paid a visit to this Fitness First Platinum health club. Wanted to take a break from…read morestudying and attended their Les Mill Body Attack, and then the Les Mills Body Balance class on a Wednesday night between 6:15pm-8:15pm. All good, got to experience the new releases for both classes last week, as at the time of writing this. Really helpful staff. Internet access and a cafeteria greet you, with a great swimming pool facility. No time to swim, just get ready for the classes. There are an abundance of locker facilities, and ample space to hang up your clothes prior to taking a shower unlike the other Fitness First gyms. Then why only three stars? Firstly, the classes were way too crowded, especially Body Balance. The Body Combat class in the main group exercise room were delayed, and hence my Body Attack class was delayed making me late for Body Balance in the mind-body studio which is a minutes walk. Never mind. With a platinum club you pay platinum prices, even if you do not use all of the facilities. Casual visits are $28 a pop, even though I did achieve my fitness goals on this occasion. However, if you come with a friend or family member who is a member of this gym, or of all Fitness First clubs, you get in for $22. Tried to download the free pass you can use on your first visit to come here, and I received server errors. I like Fitness First, yet I will give the George St Platinum club a try. Great, yet the platinum clubs are still overrated having tried this one and their one at Bondi Junction a while ago.

They're aggressive wee stones that leave angry sores on little knees and make bottoms tender and dimply (no it is not cellulite thank you very much!). Turn your grimace upward from the floor covering however and this pool is a great family spot. There's a warm kids pool which I think is mechanically heated as well as being full of wee. The adult pool has plenty of lanes and is popular. There's an oddly cold spa and a heated one if you want to pay extra. Showers are hot and free of charge, which as a local of Mosman Pool where you pay for the pleasure of rinsing off chlorine, that's a welcome change. There's a café, free onsite parking, gym and crèche, so popular with mums and tums. Just what is with the pebbles?!

As your local leisure centre, Willoughby ranks pretty well - surrounded on three sides by parkland,…read moreit's hidden away in the 'burbs and remarkable for the sheer size of its facilities - dominated by up to 30 outdoor under-lights netball courts. Between players, umpires and officials, this must account for pretty much half the women of the northern suburbs on a game night! Sadly, the parking facilities reflect that and it can be tricky to find a space especially at the end of one game and start of the next. Indoors, the Centre has another two multi-purpose courts (also in high demand for netball, basketball, volleyball and badminton) plus racquet sports courts, a large gym and rooms for exercise classes, and a 25-metre indoor pool (I'm never a huge fan of indoor public swimming pools and their associated facilities but this one is as clean and pleasant as they can be ..) Willoughby Council owns the Leisure Centre so along with the independently run competitions, the facilities are also used for schools, older people's fitness classes, swim school and more, so it can be pretty busy. But then the cost of membership - or casual entry - is much more reasonable that you'd pay in a privately run club.
