If you have seen the amount of food (especially choc) I seem to consume every week, you won't be surprised to hear that I need to have at least one bit of consistent exercise. For me that is fulfilled by a once a week visit to Climb Fit. Honestly I would love to go more, but simply can not find the time. Of the two climbing gyms that I have been to in Sydney (the other is out at St Peters), the guys Climb Fit seem to do a better job of setting consistently challenging and changing climbing routes. They also have the complete range of climbs including those for the absolute beginner (my 2 year old was climbing there a couple of weeks ago) to the elite. Whether you are looking for a slab, an overhang, bouldering, lead climbing or trying out their training wall, they seem to have it all covered. The best part is that if you don't feel like climbing for some reason, or your belay partner does not show up, there is a full gym upstairs. So if you are looking to exercise your body while exercising your mind, this is a place I would suggest checking out. N.B. If you are looking at climbing regularly I strongly suggest getting your own shoes and harness early. The rental harnesses will save you for dropping to the ground, but (and I am looking at the guys out there) "parts" of you may be uncomfortable on the way down.... #justsaying read more

Growing up in Sydney I have been to many a kids party here (I was still the kid - nothing suss) and I've even been a hostee of such a party. The best thing is that I continue to go, I love breaking out into a sweat over beating some minute children to the top - the crying only makes me go faster *Jokes. First things first, grab some friends and get inside, entering a converted warehouse type place - it can often be hard to find if you haven't been before. Hire some gear and pay for the number of hours you need - it's about the same price as going to the movies per hour. If you're new to climbing indoors try the kiddies wall - you'll notice how awesomely fast those little nimble creatures can be! Amazing. Don't get put off by the fact that you're on the kids wall, just get to the top and you'll have ample time to laugh at them - point and laugh often works well for the ego. Step 1, take those callused stumped and place them somewhere above your bleeding knees, once you're steady lift that tenderised foot and find a home for it on either the yellow or green blocks. And repeat. See it's not too hard - you pretty much did it in your head just then. Enjoy, and if you get pretty good, see you on the horizontal. read more

Climb Fit - Gyms Near Me - St Leonards, NSW

I was a member of climb fit during my ill advised, short term (thankfully) residency in St. Leonards. The gym was literally the only noteworthy thing in that whole area. The best thing about Climb fit is the environment they create there. It's like when you enter that space you're immediately a member of the family that owns the place. It's very personal and genuine. Rare, for a gym. For climbing, it has all you will ever need. You can rock up (eh?! eh?!) in whatever you're wearing and be climbing walls in no time. The walls are constantly changing, so every time you come back you'll find something new. The walls range from easy to ninja-monkey-spiderman. The gym is small but well equipped and the classes are excellent. I enjoyed training there greatly. If you live around there and want something with more soul than a chain gym, then check it out. If you're looking for a way to do something different for a day, then hit up climb fit. Just be careful with your choice of days, because it can get packed in there. read more

I watched GHB and 7 of his mates go mental at this place. His buddy Harry can climb over and under a table without touching the ground. He is like a spider. He flew up the more difficult walls and helped his mates plot a route to the top. For a bunch of 14 year old boys this was a masterstroke! They had a ball and for once they didn't have to shoot anyone or steal someones car - just solid physical exercise. The cost was $16 per person for two hours. No problem to order a few pizzas from down the road - birthday party done. Easy! One thing though - why cant 14 year old boys communicate with each other (with their newly 'deep' voices) without yelling? It's just impossible for them to speak to each other in a normal voice. This place is awesome. First time climbing and within 20 mins you're scaling your first wall. We attended on a Wednesday evening (7 of us) and it was packed, but we didn't have to wait long, if at all for a wall to be free. All up we spent a few hours here and laughed and cheered the entire time. We highly recommend this venue for first timers up to the more professional climbers - we watched some impressive ceiling climbs! We will be back. read more

If you like indoor rock climbing you'll like it here... if you don't then you probably wont. My deep and insightful thought for the day! So, what can I tell you in the way of *useful* information on this place? Well, first thing, it's not the easiest to find, the sign and street number are a bit hard to see driving past - but the entrance is between the roundabout and the big shopping centre on the other side of the road from the shopping centre. The building itself is not at the front near the street, but you have to drive further back, where it will be obvious (there is a small sign with all the businesses in the block you can see from the road). The place itself is big enough, there was a decent crowd there on a sunday afternoon, but enough climbs to go around. Difficulty varies well enough, from the perspective of a relative newbie (hadn't done any climbing for about 12 years!). The good climbers seemed to be having fun on some of the more challenging climbs. I was pleased to be able to conquer some of the walls (without cheating and using different coloured rocks) but also found some challenged me enough that I will need a couple of attempts to get right to the top. Lots of children around, but they are all having fun, and as someone that can be a little child-adverse at times (well, just screaming kids really) it was fine, I never really noticed anyone but my friends. I would like to see some proper lockers there, but there are places to leave your things whilst you climb. read more

I've been wanting to go climbing for awhile just as something new and fun to do, and finally made it out to Climb Fit with a friend who is a regular last night. Without a car it's a bit of a bear to get out to, but definitely doable if you've got patience with the train system. We had a car though and there is plenty of parking (free, too!) which is always a plus! I've only been climbing a few times before but had a blast-- so many options to climb with different routes and with different degrees of difficulty. Everyone climbing was super friendly and although there were a ton of people climbing there are so many options we never had to wait to do a climb. It was a great workout and a great time- I will definitely be back and highly recommend this as an answer to the ever present "what do I do if I'm not drinking in Sydney?" question. read more

This is probably the most accessible climbing gym in Sydney if you're coming from the city. Though the walls are not as high and the space not as big as Villawood's or St Peters', there is plenty here to keep you occupied. Their grading system is based on colours, not the numerical rating I'm more used to. I found I had difficulty doing their moderate climbs and had to stick to the easy ones despite being able to do the "harder" easy climbs (15-16) at Villawood. I reckon this is due to the fact that most of their walls are sloped outward so despite the short height, there is plenty to challenge you. This is a good place to develop your upper body strength as you definitely need to use it on the many overhangs they have. I also loved their training wall, it's more comprehensive than what I've seen at the other climbing gyms. They have a wall for lead climbing, but I prefer the space for lead climbing at Villawood. The treadmill wall looked like great fun, the kids who were there when we went were having a ball. read more

Hung out here recently with my niece. Having never been before and coming at a quiet time on a weekday afternoon, we experienced great service and instruction on the equipment before being let loose to climb to our heart's content for as long as we could hack it. We lasted about 1.5 hours, in the end. Great variety of climbing structures with degrees of difficulty. Solid safety equipment. Off street free parking available right outside the door, but not sure how busy it gets on the weekends. read more
