This being a nursery, I have surprisingly little to add when it comes to the plants or garden equipment that they are selling...so why bother writing a review about this place anyway? - Well, because aside from this whole plant and gardening business, they also rent out one of their greenhouses for events. In fact, for our Christmas party last year, we actually did this and we had the most fun time: in conjunction with the folks behind Edible Experiences and The Two Hungry Girls (see separate reviews), we had the most memorable Gangnam Style Christmas party in a greenhouse...now, who can say that they've cooked, danced and drunk with their colleagues among palm trees in the middle of winter? The communication with the staff at Clifton Nurseries was flawless and it all went so smooth.

Any excuse for a trip to Clifton Nurseries, this time a lunch date with a friend in their amazing cafe (separate review to follow). I am glad I only have a small garden and that Clifton is a bike ride away from home - how many pots can you squeeze into a small bicycle basket?! - or I would spend far too much money on plants ... they are more expensive than Homebase et al, but you get what you pay for. Everything here is healthy and well looked after, no trays of half-dead bedding plants in sight. Clifton is an actual nursery which means that most of the plants are grown here and not flown in from far flung places - they even publish a lengthy environmental policy on their website. Staff know their stuff, where to find specific plants and how to look after them - again, unlike major DIY chains I could mention. There's a lovely gift shop, and did I mention the cafe ... Maida Vale is a lovely area in any event and Clifton's just a few steps away from Little Venice. Once inside you completely forget that you are in Central London with Paddington station just around the corner.

Delicious food in a beautiful setting. The best brunch. A real treat. You can't go wrong with the menu - everything was good.

I'm not so keen on being treated like a second-class customer - on my last visit I was gazumped not once, but twice!! The first was forgivable as I thought the lady behind me was queuing to pay when she launched into a long list of requests!! The next member of staff I approached said "Yes, madam" just to walk off and serve someone else. I almost didn't bother with a third attempt .... Their main clientele seems rather posh and pushy, and most definitely regular - I think it must show that I am a very occasional gardener without indepth knowledge of botanical terms. The quality of service and advice also varies greatly between members of staff and from rather off-puttish to well informed and friendly. My main reason for returning is the fact that they offer a delivery service to local addresses - as I don't drive a car this is an essential bonus and quite affordable at less than a tenner.

Ya know what, though... totally worth it! It's like having another room that I can decorate almost completely with plants. That's where Rassell's comes in. I can't say it was anymore expensive than anything else in London. I think we spent about a total of 50 pounds on all of our plants. AND they delivered them to us same-day FOR FREE. I did, however, sneak over to Homebase for pots and soil. We now have four tomato plants; two strawberry plants; rosemary (blooming with amazing lavender as we speak); thyme; lemon verbena; hanging baskets brimming with several shades of pink and purple petunias; hot pink cosmos; the sweetest-smelling mint; and a beautiful hydrangea that blooms with large blue flowers. Pretty good for the price I'd say. Can't wait to do it all again next spring!

For example, our garden is deprived from sunshine for most of the day (aka shade) but we nevertheless want to have a garden that exists more than off shrubs and other boring greenery... Aside from the nice staff, their selection is also quite extensive - especially given that the store is very close to the city centre and doesn't have the opportunity to expand like other suburban garden-centre monsters.

I should probably mention that we had to dump our old kitchen in the garden for two months before we could persuade someone to drive us to the dump...so this has left a muddy, slimy mess. Oops. However, my mum took one look at it, and marched me off to the Camden garden centre to see if we could find some tools and plants. I am glad we did! This place has: * A huge selection of plant pots and statues (I wasn't into them...but maybe other yelpers are?) * Plenty of plants in pots, ready to re-locate into your garden...We bought as many herbs as we could carry!! * Seeeeds! All the seeds you could think of (or bulbs) with seed trays etc. * Spades, forks, gloves etc. * Houseplants * Friendly, helpful staff This is all very helpful...but I would not have fixed my garden without mum's help (plus she paid for some of it, saying it was a moving in prezzy!) So I recommend visiting here with a parent in tow. Thanks mum!!

Walk through the iron gates and the jasmine strewn gazebo and you step into an oasis. Sadly my green fingers only stretch to 3 window boxes and houseplants but I'm terribly proud of them. Popped in for some plants and new window boxes and walked away with everything I needed. My boxes are a heady mixture of fragrant lavender, daisies, delicate campanulas and a measure of trailing Ivy to help hide the thumping great padlock I have to keep the boxes from being stolen. Joys of city living!!Every plant was of high quality and looked beautiful, they knew their stuff and took the time to advise me. For any budding cooks, this is the perfect place to get your herbs. Fed up of buying supermarket plants that looked sorry for themselves after one use and never recovered. They a large range of hugely fragrant herbs that have lasted and lived! I bought Rosemary, Majoram, Basil and some strawberries... I'd recommend a visit, even just for a stroll around the grounds. very happy.

Her shirt bore the exact same color and pattern and part of the decor. It was incredible. Besides this delight, I have little feeling for the Blue Door - it failed to catch my eye, make me swoon, whisper sweet nothings into my ear and so forth. This place sells a lot of slightly upper end, touristy and non-touristy dishwear. If you're feeling like your tea set is a bit boring, you might find something here to jazz it up. It won't be cheap, but it won't put you out an arm and a leg either. The mugs of touristy type are different than those you see in every souvenir shop, but they're still just mugs with bobbies and Big Bens. Towards the back there are some purses, pillows and gift items. My friend bought some London-y mugs for her grandmas and we skit-skedaddled out of there.

My husband was attending a conference near the Imperial College so I was tagging along and sightseeing on my own in the city. It was my first time in London, UK. We stayed at the Radisson Blu Edwardian Vanderbilt hotel, a fantastic hotel by the way. Most importantly, the WIFI service was swift with no hiccups. Since it's right across the Tube station Gloucester, it was relatively easy for me to get around. I was in London for a total of 3 days. I spent the first two days covering the majors attractions and shops including the British Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum (my favourite), the Twin Towers, the Tower of London, the Westminster Abbey, the Buckingham Palace, Covent Garden, Harrods ... I'm sure you know the rest. I reserved my last day in London for more souvenir shopping. Before the visit, I aimed to get a couple of English fine china tea sets, one for my mother, and one for myself. Both of us are big fans of red teas. We are not coffee drinkers, so breakfast tea in the morning has been a staple for us. As a first time visitor in London, I found it difficult to find affordable English china tea sets with traditional prints. There were the overpriced ones but very pretty royal collection chinaware at the official boutique near the Buckingham Palace Gate. But I think most tourists like me would unlikely be willing to drop a few hundreds British pounds on a teapot. I started googling in the hotel for places nearby that sell affordable chinaware. I came across the Blue Door in Notting Hill. I decided to bid on the Blue Door for my last chance to get the tea sets that I desired with the limited time that I had. The store did not disappoint and I was so glad that I found it. Most items in the store were reasonably priced. I was attracted to Notting Hill not just because of the store, but also the large number of antique shops and the flea market there. The location was also very convenient. Hop onto the Tube and get off at the Notting Hill Gate station and you'll find your way. The staff at the store was super helpful. The lady who helped me package my teapots took great care of the merchandises. Since I bought two sets of teapots, cups and saucers, one with a traditional red & pink rose pattern, the other one with classic blue floral prints, she also tossed in a English telephone booth magnet for me. I regret that I did not get the silver plated toast holders. They were used in the hotel for serving toasts in the hotel which I thought was very British. You don't see them very often in North America so they were new to me. If you are tired of visiting landmarks, museums and monuments, give the Blue Door in Notting Hill a try. I'm sure you'll find something you like there. It definitely satisfied my chinaware needs.
