Having recently moved to the Woodford Green area, and needing somewhere to walk my two energetic dogs, I discovered Claybury Park quite swiftly and out of much necessity. For those in the local area who do not utilise this lovely open space, I feel the need to encourage you to get out and explore.
The park used to be the grounds that surrounded an old psychiatric 'asylum', which has since been demolished and has been replaced by a gated community of luxury houses. Much to the local community's good fortune, the surrounding land has been left undeveloped, and this is now known as 'Claybury Park'.
I do feel that the term 'park' is a little misleading; the land is quite rural, with mostly mud paths and lots of woodland. There are a number of lakes, with one being quite large and is surrounded by a picnic area, which I hope to take advantage of, if the British weather ever allows it.
I feel that this 'park' would benefit from better paths and clearer signs (for new walkers, one can get lost), and this is why I have rated it as slightly above average. read more
