I have to start by saying that scheduling online was very easy. I received a confirmation email and text which was very helpful. I picked this location because I am new to the area and according to their website they work with my insurance Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma and EYEMED vision care.
This would have been a ONE STAR review - but I have to say the employees giving the exam and the doctor were very pleasant. The front desk however should have been more diligent about confirming coverage prior to the exam.
I checked in on the day of my appointment and was asked for a copy of my insurance card and ID, which I provided. My appointment did not start on time, but that was ok as I was not in a big rush and my mother also had an exam scheduled.
Once taken to the back I was put through a quick eye exam. The whole process could not have taken more than 15-20 minutes. I was then shown to the area to pick out frames. Once in that area I was presented with the prescription from the doctor and told my lenses would be $350+ ( and I had not even picked out frames yet). I asked if that was reflective of my insurance price. Only THEN was I told that they do not take my insurance. This would have been information best provided to the customer BEFORE they preformed the eye exam - which I then had to pay $130+ for out of pocket.
I tried to be understanding. When checking out and paying, I asked if they could provide me prescriptions for two sets of glasses ( near for reading / far for driving ) since the doctor had written a prescription for combined progressive lenses. The front desk coordinator seemed a bit put off and told me to just remove one of the measurements and then I would have the new prescription. She could not be bothered to print out the requested prescriptions. With all things considered, I think that would have been a nice gesture on their part.
While that adjustment may be an everyday calculation for her, it would have been helpful to have separate prescriptions so I could take them to another eye doctor that DOES take my insurance or try to order the glasses online. Considering they have now cost me for an eye exam that should have been covered by insurance, I would think that would be the least they could have done to try to improve the customer experience.
-- Overall Review --
Overall I would say buyer beware until the owners of the clinic take some proactive training measures for the staff.
If you do decide to use this eye care clinic - Make sure they do indeed take your insurance prior to having your exam. Their actions do not give me a large amount of confidence and I would be wary of the way they may treat elderly patients like my mother who could be easily confused or overwhelmed.
To the owners of the practice, I would recommend some staff training on quality of service and due diligence for your patients in regard to insurance coverage. This is something that you deal with on a daily basis - your staff should be the experts protecting your patients. read more
