I liked something with mushrooms in it. What is wrong with me?! I think the food here just might be that good. The food here is fantastic, and just what I wanted: please satiate my touristy need for some delicious German food I probably won't get in Austin. There's a decent little beer list if your tastes skew regional and malty, and a nice, open patio for 'ring-tool watchin'. I think we waited a little longer outside for service, but it's Germany: don't expect the wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am quick service of the U.S., and it's fine by that standard. It's a dinner. Relax, take some time to chew your food for a change and enjoy it. Given that it's next to one of the entrances to the Nürburgring, the street view's pretty spectacular. So many awesome cars. I repeat: so many awesome cars. Everything that goes onto that track ends up on the roads around it.

This was our first meal on our trip to Europe and we were not disappointed. We ordered the schnitzel with creamy mushrooms, vegetables and crochettes (tiny potato balls that were lightly crusted). The flavor was wonderful and we ate everything. Our server was pleasant and cooperative with our limited German....she and the chef also spoke English to us and that was welcoming. The chef checked on us and was pleased that we loved the food. We were so excited to taste the food that we didn't take the time to get a pic.

We were looking at many menus for the traditional southern German spätzle and came across it on the menu here! They serve it as a side for €2.50 with most of their grill options. There a long list of homemade breaded schnitzel, some steak options, some real German stuff (those herring in that creamy sauce, pork dripping with crackling to spread on rye bread) and some more typical things like Gulasch - which was what I ordered to go with my much craved spätzle! I was not disappointed! As it was a lunch special, I was also served a side salad that is very typical in Germany - but it was so fresh and crunchy and tangy and sweet, it's one of the better ones you'll have! The gulasch was lacking in vegetables but you couldn't say they were not being generous! The whole plate was filled with large, tender chunks of beef that was in this rich gulasch sauce. Mmm! I could eat it again! The setting is lovely too. Usually you can expect to walk into a dark and dingy room when you go for a traditional restaurant but this one was bright, full of bench seating and managed to look cute at the sane time! We were staying at the top of the hill, we saw this spot on our way down into town. It was outside the city center and we knew we should try it. "Are you looking for real beer?" was our greeting. We saw a list of Belgian beers on the chalk board, and we knew we had found our place. John was an excellent tour guide through many of the selections we had to choose from. We also had fantastic food. The chicken satay was incredible and a nice change from typical German fare. What a nice surprise in this small town.

He was Polish...hence the sense of humour. He helped make the meal great. Started the meal with an all you care to eat small salad bar. Great selection. Then off to my schnitzel...was tremendous! It was big & succulent & delicious. Lots of extra sauce with a side of brat kartoffle (potato's w bacon) that were again delicious. This is a 100% do over. We'll done.
