Being relatively new to Tampere, I've been surprised at the number of places advertising hot wings…read more I heard SiipiWeikot was *the* place to go, so I decided to pay a visit on a Wednesday night with a friend. The dining and bar area on the second floor definitely has a rustic pub feeling that fits the unassuming facade. The place wasn't crowded, and we easily found a table and placed an order. The beer selection is rather limited -- Foster's seems to be the norm, and Krušovice Cerne for the dark beer. I had one of each throughout the meal. I ordered 20 wings with medium spice, and we shared an order of fries. Perhaps it's because I'm used to mutant chickens in the USA, but I was disappointed that the wings were quite small. They were accompanied by the usual suspects -- blue cheese dipping sauce, celery, carrots. I will say the sauce was quite tasty, but "medium" is very medium in this case -- don't fear the spice here. I'm glad I visited SiipiWeikot, but for me it didn't really live up to the hype -- feels like an average wings place. Worth a visit, but next time I'll branch out and see what else Tampere wings joints have to offer.

It was impossible to pick up and eat, but it was just as delicious with a fork and knife. The onion rings were crispy, which is a rare find, and the pepper dip was a great compliment to fries, rings, and the occasional bites of burger. The smoke habanero was good and quite spicy, way more spicy than I've seen offered in most restaurants. Don't leave Oulu without stopping here if you enjoy burgers.

The huge windows are great for letting the light in. The lamps are just to my liking. The drinking glasses are the ones every trendy restaurant in Scandinavia seems have bought. The counter with all the cakes, pastries etc is beautifully organised. Every detail seems to have been designed and the overall ambience of the place is classy with eye candy for the visitor. I first visited there in June thinking I'd buy a cheap lunch since I came during lunch time. The salad was maybe 11€ and with chicken added around 13€ so I considered it a bit pricey for lunch hour. It did come with bread which was fresh from their own bakery so I did not leave hungry. And the salad was very tasty and if it wasn't for the price I could eat something like that every day. :) I also came here once for coffee with baby strollers and there's plenty of room for that. So even though the coffee is not the cheapest in town, this is a good meeting place even with the "baby baggage". Did I mention the regular coffee has free refills? It does. And you get one Fazer candy with the coffee. I of course picked the Kiss-Kiss candy which is my ultimate childhoold favorite! :) In addition to coffee, salads and pastries, you can buy fresh bread here for taking home. So in addition to being a cafe, it is sort of a Fazer pastry shop ("konditorio") too.
