It's huuuuuge and flat practically deserted. It's also unpatrolled, meaning no lifeguards, and can get kinda rough when the surf pumps. So, y'know, look after each other. But it's a hell of a beach. Great for morning runs, touch footy, beach cricket, solitary reflection, or painting bark in a little fairy bower in the treeline. At least, that last one is what I did. But then again, I was staying in a house full of free spirits with names like Shanti and Manoo and Tarik and it was pretty much perfect. If you've got a dog, this is where to bring it - it's an off-leash wonderland, and there's as much room for your scruffy companions to roam free (read: tire themselves out) as they could possibly want, it's damned doggy Disneyland all up in this business. Take a picnic. Make a day of it. And if that guy walking past happens to be smoking a big bone, hey, it's Byron, right?

Make sure you give yourself time beforehand as it is about 5-10 minutes, depending on traffic, away from the airport. Dealing with the gentleman behind the desk was a dream he made it very easy and was a quick check in. I had to wait for the courtesy bus to come back and after 5-10 mins it was back to pick me up. All the staff are very nice and helpful and make it very easy to deal with the company. They were also good at pickups as I didn't have to wait very long and as we got off the courtesy bus the gentleman from the counter was all ready with my keys so it was a very quick exit.

If ever in need of secure parking in Fortitude Valley you can't go past McWhirters. McWhirters is a…read morebig secure parking lot, with multiple levels. You can either enter it from Ballow or Warner street but I always tend to take the Warner entrance for some reason. Like all secure parking, it does come at a price however. Prices change depending on what day you are there but generally on weekdays it is $$6 for 20 mins or less and then steadily gets more and more expensive as time goes by. On weekends it will start at $9 for a half hour of parking privilege and then rise and rise some more. There are deals for early birds or late leavers so it is worth checking out the website. The best part about McWhirters Secure Parking is the convenient location, being smack bang in the middle of the Valley. It is also open 24 hours so if you are the sober driver you can take everyone home after a long night of drinks and dancing. Funnily enough, I did catch a couple having a more intimate moment in their car on the second level of McWhirters once. In fact, I was quite impressed at the bouncing of the car, the unintentional accidental beeps, and the fact that all this was happening at around 10pm on a Tuesday of all days. Most of the time however, McWhirters is just a good old place to park your car.

Garden City Busway is the biggest bus interchange on the south side of Brisbane - or maybe it's the…read moresecond biggest after the Cultural Centre. If you accidentally board the wrong bus on the south side, fear not. It will eventually stop at Garden City where you can turn around and find the correct bus. For city commuters, Bus 160, Bus 111 and the Logan Bus 555 will take about fifteen minutes from Garden City with only about five stops along the Busway. Bus 150 is relatively faster as it only stops once at Griffith before going straight through to Mater Hospital, South Bank, Cultural Centre and City. I've seen a lot of people get caught up by this one and shout at the bus driver for not stopping along the busway in between. Bus 156 Stretton Rocket is the fastest as it goes directly from Garden City to the City. There is a Park'n' Ride carpark at Garden City but unless you arrive before 7pm in the morning, it's pretty full up. Plus it's at the bottom of a hill so it's a steep trek to make it to the busway. I wouldn't test my luck driving around Garden City looking for a car park before 9am. There are often security guards out and a lot of the car parks are locked. If you do need to park your car, at the crest of Macgregor Street, cross over the bridge and there's usually some street parking available here.

my experience comes from parking at the Gold Coast site…read more while booking and leaving the car is very simple and easy, collecting the car is exceedingly difficult, particularly when the information on the website is deceptive about collecting the car and catching a lift between 8pm and 9pm (closing time). yes, website advertises closing time as 9PM. the first warning sign came when i was dropping the car, i was told that if my flight is delayed, i should contact the staff and they would organize my car to be parked outside for collection, while website advertises closing time as 9PM. when i learned that my flight is delayed and contacted the parking staff, i was told that there is no shuttle service either and i need to find an alternative way to get to the parking at my own costs. naturally, one can ask a question - why a business which is serving travelling customers closes before the airport or why the information about shuttle and car collection is well hidden?

Staff smelt of cigarettes and kept us waiting at checkin while they finished their smoke. Had to wait 30mins for the airport pickup...they only have 1 van operating. This was 6pm!! lots of people waiting for the pick-up. We had 3 young children with us, so not a lot of fun waiting that long. Van was smelly and dirty (inside). Cheap and nasty...I will pay more next time for a better service.
