We bought a house that had a pond with 27 Koi in it and insufficient filtration and plumbing. We bought fish food, a pump, UV lamp, and several other items totalling about $1,500 from Clarke Koi in 2014, to get us off the ground. A fellow named "Ken" was working there at the time and was very helpful. They weren't our sole supplier as we put the pond on the right track, but we bought a lot from them on that first project. They are knowledgeable, but it's pretty obvious they're more interested in servicing Koi ponds (which many people can't afford) than supporting DIY Koi pond owners (they don't really like to share their how-to, now that Ken is gone); for example, when I urgently needed their opinion over the phone (I am 1.5 hours' drive away) on whether or not I should start my pond treatment with a specific medication - and what medication to buy to follow that treatment - the first question was "did you buy it from us?" They explained they only support their customers. I was going to order the follow-on medication from them (I felt that qualified me as a 'customer'), but at that point, I was so turned off that I just put the phone down. Fortunately, Chris, at Hydrosphere (pondexperts.ca) put my Koi first and was very helpful, so I bought the Praziquantel and Tricide-Neo I would need from him and saved my Koi. I think Clarke has a lot of knowledge and experience to offer their wealthy customers, but not for the DIY ponder. Hydrosphere gets my business going forward. read more
