We'd been hearing about the son AJ's dive in to raising grass-fed beef. It's magnificent. We grab two packages of filet mignon on the way out of town Monday. Cooked Tuesday for dinner. Cast iron pan lightly seared with olive oil, salt and pepper. That's all it needed. Melt in your mouth delicious. I have a client who gives me a Ruths Chris gift certificate every Christmas, so I am pretty familiar with their menu. It's a good meal. Honestly, they use so much butter I feel I taste more butter than beef. AJ's grass fed beef tastes like beef. I had about 3 ounces leftover and sliced it, warmed it just a bit and had it with a spinach salad today. So good. There's plenty of other unique and quality grocery items on the shelves that I doubt you'll find in Giant Eagle or Riverside. Very nice.

Maybe it was the time of year, but this was some slammin' slab slices. Also have some great snacks and they carry Suhey peppers which are great in a lot of ways (especially added to warm baked beans as a bowl topping). They sell Suhey at Wegman's but of course there aren't any nearby me so this was a great find. The "beef sticks" aren't anything special, but it was good. Chicken breasts we bought cooked up perfectly. Love to see this kind of place thriving, too. Customers were regulars and loved the place. Staff was friendly and put up with my jokes. Great place! Come visit. They also sell "Blues Hog" Barbecue sauce. Tasty, but needed to be applied to a cooking meet and thus are a little runny -- for BBQin' not dippin' really -- but the honey mustard was good on some KFC chicken tenders.

When compared to the long established, larger truck stop chain restaurants that have become tired, dingy, dim, overpriced and overrated, Kwik Fill restaurants offer a fresh approach to over the road dining scene. A good place to meet the locals and travelers in friendly conversation. The food stands above the established crowd but is not above improvement or refinement. To be a greater success, to attract vital repeat clientele is to raise your standards above those of your faltering competitors and not to copy their poor business skills. Don't gouge travelers and use quality products. Their clam chowder soup was excellent. Fish was excellent but the breading was flat and tasteless. Items on the salad bar were at the correct cold temperatures and were very good. My vegetable omelette was very good as were the home cooked potatoes. When you say would you like your toast buttered? I expect real butter and not slathered with some margarine spread. There is NO substitute for real butter. The same applies to cheese, nothing compares to real cheese products. When the cheese sticks to your fork like glue, something is wrong. Overall everything I ate was very good. Highly recommended. A very good local option.
