I was recently in the cute Clarion PA area on a lovely road trip with my husband. One day our…read morenature walk plans were thwarted by rain, so we decided to hang out in the village. While he did some work at Michelle's Cafe across the street, (great coffee and free wifi!), I dodged a few rain drops to do some some shopping. Main Street Emporium can be found inside Dan Smith's Candies (https://www.yelp.com/biz/dan-smiths-candies-and-gifts-clarion?hrid=PcJVc3SHwlsRnHN9fUcaYg). When you enter the candy store, the Emporium is straight ahead and all the way to the back, both upstairs and downstairs, with more merchandise located on the upstairs level. This is a store comprised of a variety of independent seller stalls, selling mostly second-hand goods. The store isn't huge, but was bigger than I expected it to be upstairs, with a couple unforeseen turns into a few different spaces on the second level. The range of seller booths contain a mishmash of antiques, decoratives, toys, games, collectibles, crafts, housewares, fashion accessories, jewelry, apparel, books, artwork, and a little bit of everything in between. There is even a live houseplant seller! That was a first; I have not seen live plants in this kind of store before. One of my purchases was a lovely potted spider plant for just five bucks! I also found an authentic Russ Troll for five bucks that had a shirt on that said "40 is not old if you are a tree."--this was perfect to go with my turning-40-brother's bingo bag gift I got him for his birthday! One oddball thing I always look for when I'm in a store like this too are topless mermaid figurines--and I found one for a buck! (Yes, they must be topless, because as a woman I know how ridiculous it would be to wear an uncomfortable seashell bra all day, and am certain a mermaid would never do such a preposterous thing, haha.) To round it out, we got a nice pile of vintage sci-fi books for two bucks a piece, something my husband and I collect. We found some great titles, including the full "The Fuzzies" trilogy! Checkout for the Emporium is the same counter as Dan Smith's Candies. If you are buying both Emporium goods and candies/gifts from Dan's, the friendly counter staff will ring you out at the same place. I had a really nice time rainy-day-perusing the shelves at Main Street Emporium. When we're back in the Clarion PA area, I'd surely stop in again to see what's new!

Dan Smith's Candies is a quaint confectioner in the heart of darling little downtown Clarion PA. I…read morerecently stopped in to grab a sweet snack when my husband and I were in town on a quiet road trip getaway together. The store is surprisingly big and bright, with a large, long case full of all sorts of sugary treats. There was a wide assortment of filled chocolates and other kinds of chocolate candies. The middle of the store has several shelves of wrapped novelty candies, gummies and hard candies, gift items, and greeting cards. At the front there is also a small ice cream case for hand-dipped cones and sundaes. My attention diverted to a case with one of my favorite sweet treats--the fudge case. There were at least ten fudge flavors, or so. I asked if I could get a quarter-pound small box with a piece of three flavors I'd like to try, to which the very kind counter attendant happily obliged. I selected the cherry nut, peanut butter, and strawberry cheesecake flavors. I also purchased a funny greeting card for my brother's upcoming birthday. When my husband and I were back in our room later, the fudge did not disappoint! It was creamy, fresh and flavorful, with a little bit of the super-sweet treat going a long way! I was very pleased with my candy and card purchase from Dan Smith's, and would gladly stop by again the next time we are in cute lil' Clarion PA. PS FYI - Also housed in the same space as Dan Smith's is Main Street Emporium, a different store but that uses the same entrance as the candy shop. My sister and I brought my mother for a sit down tea room experience. I shared a finger food tier with my mother. It was lacking in appearance, taste, and quality. Just a bunch of random mundane things you'd find in a dollar general and not fresh. There was basically no wait for our order. It was very quick. Waitress brought one plate for two people lol. And I had to ask for the tea list. Young girl seemed put out the moment we came in. But tried to be more polite towards the end. She never asked how we were. We stayed for about 35m. They use HT tea which I'm not a fan of and they use only one tea bag for a shared 16-24oz tea pot. My mug was a little dirty and stained. We had to ask for sugar. My sister said her Ruben sandwich was great and her ice tea was fine. Disclosure: we're all from a large city and maybe this is high quality for this little town. One of the biggest off putting part was seeing the naked hairy arm pits of a large man while trying to enjoy a special semi eloquent daughter/mother date. We dressed up a little and are not loud people. There really should be a certain dress code and volume control (large man was part of a large loud party) for a "tea room". I would not return or recommend.
