The reference library is nice and quiet, a perfect place to research, study or read. The staff are helpful and the surroundings make you feel your in the inner sanctum of old newspapers and manuscripts - I really like the heavy old wooden interior. The main library is much more modern. There's a great selection of books and you can use the internet here too but I much prefer reading in the reference library. Overall, a great place for books. I used to love coming in here to read and reflect, a brilliant local library.

Pimlico library is a small local library close to Pimlico tube. It is not in the nicest part of…read morePimlico (right under/next door to some shabby looking apartments) but is open reasonably long hours (for a local library) and has a modest selection of books. It's good for locals but I wouldn't come here otherwise. It stocks books, CDs, DVDs, newspapers, magazines, a small number of games and has a couple of niches groups (e.g. manga/anime). Staff are generally helpful, however can get busy and flustered. I don't know if this is true, but the service you get feels like they are volunteers and they aren't out to really help a great deal. I don't understand why you have to line up to return a book rather than simply put it into a returns box.

It's only a very small library, with very few places to sit. There are two tables where in theory you could sit down and study, but they are right by the computers (with free internet), so it's not very quiet (and, goddammit, I was trying to get away from the internet!). It's also a bit run down, shabby sort of, not a very inviting or inspiring environment. And I can't imagine that their selection of books is any good, given the size of the library I mean. They also charge you for borrowing CDs and DVDs, which is a bit unnecessary. Well, you could still come here and use the internet and read all the papers, I guess.

To the person who thought it would be a perfect idea to put a children's play area on the lower ground floor at the foot of said huge, cavernous, open interior. Idiot. The shrill sounds of screaming toddlers is allowed to reverberate, bounce and echo off the walls of this huge interior dome making it impossible to actually do what most libraries are supposedly conducive to; studying and reading. Massive fail.

The large library on Kings Road is on two floors, with separate general, children's and reference…read moresections. Free internet is available, but is limited to one hour each day. It is worth booking this in advance, as there are only a few terminals, and a lot of demand. The staff are helpful, and books can be ordered efficiently. The library also boasts a good selection of DVDs and CDs. Non-residents of RBKC can still join and use the facilities.

A good stock of…read morebooks for both adults and children and probably the best collection of reference material for those interested in the history of South West London. Scores of books on the swapy marshland that was south London only 300 or so years ago.
