Claire's Accessories is frequently chock-full with adolescent girls in school uniform acting in a very excitable manner whilst they bring to each other's attentions the assortment of youthful, vibrant products on offer. It is understandable how all the effervescent metallics, subtle sequins, daring prints and oodles of colour excites their pubescent selves - I'm in my mid-20's and even I get keyed up every time I glance at all the poptimistic rings, fingerless gloves, sequin fedoras, stud bangles, youthful sequin-laden shiny clutch hand bags and much more besides.
The young girls are right to get excited with such charming goods on offer saturated in pubescent typeface and design as Hello Kitty odds and ends, faux hair, other products teenagers find irresistible like Jonas Brothers' merchandise, Animal Instinct cosmetics, Charm girl's club accessories, sunglasses with sparkly thick-plastic rims, quilted handbags and earrings.
Claire's also sells a large range of KAPOW! items. KAPOW! is a brand name that uses a lot of imagery, symbols and lettering from superhero comics hence words such as POP! and BooOOooM! appearing in neon colored typeface surrounded by large exclamations marks and what look to be animated lightning bolts. The range includes distinct neon pink belts, neon leopard crossbody bags, metallic hobo bags, SNAP! armbands and bangles. I have never seen a brand utilize comic book motifs in such an innovatory way before.
All in all Claire's is a store justified in its position on the High Street. It does not look to undermine nor patronize its young clientele, but instead provides a means in which to look cool without discarding your youth. Claire's does not encourage young girls to grow up too fast but instead presents a robust stockpile that keeps them looking chic and in touch with current trends and popular culture at this tricky age without ever crossing the line into something inappropriately too grown-up. read more
