My primary care physician is Dr. Matthew G Houlahan. I was born and raised in Albany, California…read morebut I went to UCSC when I went to college. So I neededto switch my doctor and ended up going to the Palo Alto medical foundation. I have only seen Dr. Houlahan twice but he was a really great doctor but the real saving grace of this facility is the urgent care. I only have a 15$ compay for the urgent care so would come here to get my blood drawn for chloresterol, std testing, and for any type of sickness and was just really great and convenient when I was really sick or hurting. Moved back to the Bay Area so will be switching primary care physicians soon because I can't drive back to Santa Cruz every time for an appointment but I really liked this hospital facility.

I saw Zenker in July of 2022 because my regular practitioner was not avail. (later learned that she…read morewas out for a brief period due to contracting COVID). It was supposed to be a routine checkup, but I found out that I was pregnant in the week prior to coming in. I was unsure whether or not I wanted to keep the fetus for various reasons including that I had recently contracted COVID. Zenker told me with certainty that COVID does not effect fetuses, which is just a wild claim considering this is 2 years out from initial outbreak and no one has a clue what the range of effects of COVID are. Zenker immediately assumed that I wanted her input on whether or not I should have a child. The first words out of her mouth were to ask me if I had a good job (I had a decent job at the time, but she seemed to assume I was too poor to have a child based off of my appearance). After some other ignorant and uncomfortable questioning, I realized that I would have to request an OB referral, which I then did verbally. I told her I wanted to see an OB so I could have a regular checkup, not knowing how old the fetus was at the time. Zenker told me she could get a good idea by feeling my uterus. I agreed to let her do this. She was incredibly rough. I'm 32 and have had many pelvic exams, and this one stands out. I remember gasping and probably winced a little. She snarkily said, "What? Did that hurt?" as if she hadn't just jammed her hand forcefully inside of me or if she thought that somehow would not be painful for a person like me. Not to mention I'm pregnant. And not for the first time, so I'm familiar with tenderness, etc. (I endured a month-long miscarriage with zero pain medication). Ultimately, Zenker never referred me to an OB. So I called the office and asked for a referral. I had to wait for someone to contact Zenker for contact information and then call me back with a number. I called the office that I was referred to, and it turned out they did not have OBs there. I repeated this process two more times. Two times in total Zenker gave me a number to an office that did not have OBs or perform OB exams of any kind for pregnant women. tl;dr classist, misogynist, judgemental, bad communication, poor follow-through, rough vaginal/pelvic exams I give 1 star, because I just generally did not feel like I was being treated like a human being in her presence. I expect no one, especially women, to be warm & fuzzy, but I also expect no one to be the opposite. Thankfully, she is not my primary doctor.
