To all who are still unsure, I will tell you everything I went through with them--I had my court hearing yesterday with Atty. David representing me. To be honest, I had my doubts with all these negative reviews and with the fishy letter everyone here seems to get but they were the first to reach out to me even before the ACTUAL subpoena was sent so I went with them. Don't listen to the idiots here... the letter is probably REAL--all you have to do is type in the CASE NUMBER into the ACTUAL COURT website and you'll see right away if it's phony or not. I had my doubts and I may not agree with how they run their businesses, but at the end of the day, these are REAL lawyers and they will show up and handle your case. I decided to have them represent me for a TRO because 1) I know I will say something stupid that could hurt my case and 2) I know I have a slim chance of winning considering how detailed my exgf's testimony was against me. I spoke to Atty. Ryan, Aiden, and Michael and they all gave great advice. Even though David took on my case, they worked as a team to come up with many strategies to approach this. I lacked any confidence in winning this difficult case but David took the time to reach out to me, even when it intruded into his "family" hours and he had to repeat himself many times to assure me. He also sat down with me in person to go over the winning strategy. I don't want to go over too much about my case, but surprisingly we did better than we BOTH expected. I personally thought my exgf had a really good case against me--she was so confident she could win that she refused to settle out of court. BAM!! Turns out that the judge gave me a slap on the wrist compared to what we were willing to settle out of court! The whole event felt like a movie. Bottom line is that you just have to put your TRUST into them during the whole process and let them do their thing in front of the judge at the actual hearing. I would definitely call it a win. Pro tip: There are better ways to find an attorney if you are in legitimate need of one. Start with your county bar association for referrals. Would give zero stars if possible. Received a letter about a lawsuit filed against "me." The court case number was valid and the defendant had my name. I'm freaking out but have no idea what this is about and had never heard of the Civil Attorneys Group or the plaintiff in the case. I have never had any bad debts or been sent to collections. I try calling the Civil Attorneys Group for my "free consultation" to get to the bottom of this...no answer...has not returned my call or responded to their chat on their website. I finally paid to access the court documents to confirm that the defendant is NOT ME just someone with the same name. Shame on this group of lawyers for causing unnecessary stress to individuals who are not involved in a lawsuit. Can I report them to the State Bar Association? Someone let me know. I was served with a summons and the very next day received a letter from the Civil Attorneys Group offering a free consultation to discuss the case. I called several law firms because I didn't know how to respond to the court documents. The Civil Attorneys Group returned my call within 30 minutes and answered all my questions and explained my options without pressuring me to hire them. I did speak to the receptionists for 2 of the other attorneys offices who took my information and promised to respond after speaking to the attorney, but never heard back from them. I also spoke to 1 other attorney who quoted his $450.00 hourly rate but did not want to answer any questions unless I hired him and paid a retainer. If you receive a letter from the Civil Attorneys Group, you should definitely call them. They already knew about my case despite only receiving the summons on a holiday less than 24 hours earlier! read more

They use public records to find out who has a divorce pending, send out solicitation letters implying parties are about to be sued for child support, and scaring them into retaining the firm for legal services. Totally taking advantage of people's vulnerability and fear during a time when they may not be making sound decisions. The worst part? They don't even bother making sure they have the right people. If ANYONE named Mary Smith is facing divorce proceedings, they just send scary letters to EVERY Mary Smith they can find. read more

I received a letter from this firm stating that I had a lawsuit filed against me. I went to the city website to pull down the court documents and saw there was a lawsuit filed against an individual with my name, but the two addresses referenced were not the same as the address to which they sent the letter. I called up Civil Attorneys Group and spoke with someone named Jason or Justin. This person kept claiming they were trying to help the person being sued - presumably me - but couldn't explain why they sent me the letter other than having the same name. There are dozens if not hundreds of people with the same first and last name as me - no Middle Name or anything to link it down. Clearly they are a spray and pray operation trying to drum up business, with no regard for random people they catch in the cross-fire. I asked this person to reimburse me for the cost of pulling down the file. He refused and even wouldn't tell me his name after I asked nicely several times. If I ever needed a law firm, I would never use a firm that employs these practices and treats people so rudely. Suggest others steer clear. Edit: Look at the nonsensical response. This guy keeps saying the named person in the lawsuit. It wasn't me, wasn't my address. Nothing in common other than the same name. They spray and pray and think it's on me to call them and have them clear it up. If they had any integrity they would refund the cost to pay for the paperwork. Avoid at all costs. read more

I felt lost and beaten when I was sued, my business and future were at stake. Don't hire this firm, they are awful. I had a super simple case that didn't even require an attorney to win, but I decided to get one just for the peace of mind. Big mistake, they made an experience times worse than if I didn't have any representation at all. After they get your money, they pretty much disappear on you. They don't notify you about anything, cancel the appointments the last second and don't reschedule them, just ignore your email inquiries about it. They didn't do absolutely anything for my case. For some reason rescheduled my court date to drag it all out, told me not to come to the initial court date. Then on the initial court date, 3 minutes before the court time, started calling me and leaving voice messages from unknown number and the guy I never heard of, asking whether I intend to come to that court date. Turns out they changed my lawyer to that guy, and never bothered to notify me. They never told me the new court date, until 2 days prior, when I finally gouged it from them myself, after multiple calls and emails asking them about it. On that second court date that new lawyer Sean wasn't picking the phone, nobody was answering or returning voice mails or emails, so I literally had to go around the court room, asking any guy in a suit "Are you Sean?" to find him. Michael Banks there is the worst. After a couple of weeks of them never communicating on anything, canceling all appointments without rescheduling, and repeatedly failing to process the refund they owed me (they charged me the court fees, failing to ever mention I can get a fee waiver, so I had to find out about it myself and organize it myself) I was ready to ditch them. Finally got a hang of Michael Banks to ask if I can get any money back from the retainer. He was just condescendingly interrupting me, talking over me, not letting me say anything, then said he would ask his boss and hang up. I never heard from him again, and he never replied to my subsequent email inquiries about it. This company is a pathetic excuse of a law firm, you can see that from that ambulance chasing letters they send everyone around, and the dismissive automatic replies they copy-paste to everyone complaining about it. I recommend Hart Levin firm, I used them before and they were excellent, I really regretted that I didn't remember about them right away and went with that pathetic CAG. Or just use any other firm with predominately good reviews here, I think anything would be better than these guys. read more

Like everyone else, received a "misleading" letter regarding a lawsuit against someone with a similar name, but not me (better not use the word "scam" or the owner will respond). Sure, they say to call them to clear up the matter, but they also state "A timely response must be filed with the Superior Court by an attorney or by NAME HERE, a phone call will not suffice." Or I can just look up the case myself and see it's not me. A law firm that uses scare tactics to get business...no, that's not shady at all. The Civil Attorneys Group SAVED MY BUSINESS! Apparently, I was sued by a previous business partner regarding a failed investment. It wasn't until I received a letter from the civil attorneys group notified me that a case had been filed against my business nearly 45 days prior. If it were not for that letter I may have never known about the lawsuit until it was too late. The individual that sued me is very devious and was trying to hide the fact that he filed a lawsuit and continued to file documents with the court, AND I HAD NO IDEA. The Civil Attorneys Group immediately helped me throughout the entire process, got this case under control, and I'm very happy to say that a few months later the case was resolved. I got the same form letter everyone else here is complaining about. This *firm* apparently scours LA Superior Court Cases for named defendants, and then scours the interwebs for anyone with matching names, then sends them a letter warning them that *they* have been named in a lawsuit, and soliciting to help. Well, people, time to do some fact checking. It is true that many people share the same names. However, if you have been named in a bonafide lawsuit, you would have been served official court paperwork. So, if no one has come to your door to serve you according to standard court protocols, then don't worry, you are not being sued. This lowlife law firm is simply trying to bilk money out of people who don't understand their rights or how the court system works. Before you panic just do the work and look up the case number, at LA County Superior Court and you'll see it most likely involves people you have never heard of in places you've never been. And, curiously, one of the people named may have the same name as you. But not the same address. Case dismissed. Civil Attorney's Group is phishing for clients, plain and simple. The real place to look for good legal representation is a credible and crowd-sourced review site like AVOO.com, where you can search by specialty. Look up any of CAG's attorneys, and while you'll see some glowing client reviews, between 4 of them there are only 3 reviews total. Furthermore, according to AVOO's own review methods, none of their attorneys score higher than a 6.7 on a scale of 10. Consider their reputation wisely before proceeding. read more

Got the same scam as many others in this thread. They simply send letters to everyone within CA with the same name as someone from a real court case. In my case letter says some random guy wanna divorce from my wife=) Fortunately it was easy to figure out, there was even the real case number attached. But come on guys, it's pathetic! My ex filed papers on a Monday, by Friday I was served with the summons and by Saturday I received the letter Civil Attorneys Group . At first I wanted to look into my own representation before reaching for the first helping hand, but after 2 days of research and being in contact with a number of other law offices and attorneys I circled back and contacted C.A.G. A lot of these offices will offer a consultation, but Civil Attorneys Group was the first one that actually called back and talked through the matter with me as opposed to getting short answers over text from the other guys. I just received this letter from CAG civil attorneys group stating a lawsuit was filed against me. As i know that i have never been sue or had bad debt collection by anybody. I start to think that this letter sound too good to be true and potential a scam due to the facts that many yelpers have same problem from the letter they received.
