Breakfast
Vivienne C.

Honestly the rooms were meh at best but the breakfast (if you are a Marriott Rewards member) was probably the best "free" hotel breakfast I've had in the Western hemisphere. Checked into this hotel that was right next to Surrey's Central Library which was honestly great in case you ever get bored. The room itself is not very big and is quite dark actually. However, I did appreciate the bathroom which was modern and clean. The best thing in this hotel, however, is most definitely the "free" breakfast. I feel like usually hotels in the US and Canada just give you mediocre continental breakfast and call it a day. Even if you go to hotel clubs/lounge that is supposed to be for elite members, the food is still quite bad. Not the Civic Hotel... the breakfast is amazing! Here's some of my favorite foods at the breakfast. - Roasted Tomato - They didn't have this every day I was there but this was actually amazing. Roasting the tomato concentrated all of the flavors and became extremely juicy yet flavorful with all the seasoning on top. - Sourdough Bread - They make their own bread that you can cut by yourself and it was honestly one of the best breads I've had in US/Canada, even when compared to a bakery. The bread on the outside was extremely crispy and the inside was very fluffy. Especially with their not so sweet homemade cream cheese, this bread was off the charts and I wanted to take it home. - I really appreciate the variety they had in their breakfast buffet from standard breakfast items such as scrambled eggs to fruit smoothies to homemade jams. I appreciate the attention to detail here which made waking up and eating such a fun activity. Overall, my stay was okay but was made better by the breakfast. If you're not a Rewards member or wouldn't be able to eat their free breakfast maybe don't stay here, but if you are it is definitely worth the experience.

We have enjoyed our 3 night stay here. Our first night we didn't eat dinner and our last meal was a 1pm lunch. They do not have a store here and the vending machine items are limited, but we got 7 goodies/drinks to share. Unfortunately the vending machine charged us for Ruffles, but didn't give them to us. I went to front desk the next day and asked about it and she actually gave us a water, nuts, and chocolate :-) Our 3rd day I needed to exchange our towels, but missed room service so I called down to desk asking if I could get 2 sets from them and she offered to run them to our room. They were so fast! Our room is beautiful even if the views are better on another corner. The corner units are the best bec you get 2 walls of windows! I love windows! The best seat in the house is the toilet haha. Even though the rooms are tight and not very roomy, it's perfect to us bec you're just sleeping here.

Air vent

Very disappointed. Room view was horrible....But ok, not a big deal. We called in advance about room type & view but we will Forgive But the SERVICE was not good. The front desk was actually really rude and made me feel very uncomfortable. I never ever complain about people, I understand things can't always go our way but man oh man there was unnecessary demeaning comments and we got told a straight up lie. I did not argue or respond back. I stared at employee in disbelief and walked away after saying thank you to her. A younger gentlemen was the first at front desk to try and help and he just straight up lied to us about a room change and then left his shift without a care. But the attitude of second front desk was uncalled for. If nothing can be done to help us...say so and it's ok...there was no need to make us feel like roaches. Idk. The air vent in bathroom is also dirty....I'm allergic to dust. And I was wondering why I was so itchy...don't want to over do a negative review but things are what they are. Staying here for a couple nights(5 total) and might just switch out. For the price of +$300usd a night.Air vent & view to your own judgement. Currently here and for a wedding. So don't want to Ps: Marriott elite member. First time I've been disappointed by Marriott :( I mean long time customer....and all over the world. What's going on? Update: after 5 nights! Front desk is rudest I've experienced...ever. And I have traveled all over. Even upon checkout the guy didn't make eye contact and kept repeating nonsense info about our stay, ex: Expedia booking...? Mind you we did American Express! Over 250K points lol even iffffff we did book Expedia. Damn...they make you feel low life. In general their Attitude needs realignment. Maybe Disney customer service program? lol The ONLY thing worth it about this hotel is the restaurant Dominion. GREAT service! Their restaurant manager should manage hotel. Thank you dominion!

Corner King Room

On a weekend trip to Vancouver, we stayed at the Civic Hotel in Surrey, which is ~30-40 minutes outside of downtown Vancouver. Overall, it was a solid 4 / 5 as it was a comfortable stay with great service and a view. -- Room -- I booked the City King Room for ~144 CAD, which is ~109 USD, and luckily as a Marriott Gold Elite was upgraded to the Corner King Room, which was really nice. The room had a great view, comfortable bed, and a TV. As a Gold Elite, they also provided 2 complimentary water bottles. -- Parking -- Parking was 13 CAD (9.86 USD) with in and out access. -- Breakfast -- As a Gold Elite, a complimentary voucher was provided for breakfast although if you want hot food it's an extra 3 CAD, which would've been worth it if we weren't already planning to eat out.

Pretty nice building, relatively convenient location in terms of transit. Staff are helpful and seem to do the best they can. Rooms are small but make pretty good use of space. Nicely finished rooms innovatively desiged, great in room coffee product. But thats kinda it for positives from my perspective. An essential piece to a comfortable stay for me is the ability to regulate the temperature in my room, something which i could not accomplish here. I asked the staff to look into it, not sure if they actually did, but nothing changed. I spent the evenings bundled up in the room to stay warm, and when the sun streamed in it was sometimes too hot. The staff did offer a space heater and extra blankets, I cant fault their efforts, but for a four star hotel, frankly even a 1 star hotel this really isnt acceptable to me. The instructions posted above the thermostat suggest to me that this is not a new issue, and even following them exactly I was unable to get any warm air out of the vent or significantly cool air when it was warm, for the duration of my 5 night stay. I also found the attention to detail from the housekeeping staff lacking, they neglected to restock my coffee creamer, left my conditioner dispenser empty despite a friendly note asking them to restock it, and replaced my coffee cup with one that was very dirty. Some of the public areas too for instance the elevators could do with more regular cleaning. On top of all of that this hotel is in or very near Wally.. and just a brief walk around the neighborhood will make that abundantly clear. The views are pretty nice and the area is improving, they are doing a lot right at this hotel, but having stayed at a dozen other similarly priced hotels in the lower mainland I simply cannot recommend this one, there are much better places to stay.

Civic Hotel is an elegant contemporary hotel situated between a sketchy but semi updated previous back street and a shiny new city hall, library & concrete water park. Ironic. Our room 611 had a gorgeous 55" Samsung suhd led smart tv ( which died on the fourth day in due to a pipe bursting on the 18th floor oy! ) but had no built in tv guide? Civic hotel offers free hbo,and a few movie channels as well. The in-room coffee/espresso machine was decent once you realized that u need to do exactly the opposite of the machines indicators for success. If u brew a coffee pod then set the machine on the illuminated espresso indicator and vice versa. Our phone was intermittent as well, seems 611 is electronically cursed. Our room was a 'city view' that was a sad noisy view of the many homeless, ill and addicted that reside either in or around the immediate area. The upside of this area is that it has huge potential to grow and become vibrant and safe. For example we witnessed the juxtaposition of dangerous and safe while watching various youth groups rehearsing athletic dance routines in the concrete park/courtyard out front of the hotel at sunset, it was entertaining and refreshing to c kids interfacing and enjoying group activities that were truly interacting in a healthy organic human fashion. This bodes well for the next gen for whom this ever evolving community is being tailored to. I digress, so do request a north or west view if available to enjoy a positive view. As a 5 star hotel, Civic Hotel lacks many standard ameneties associated with a 3 star hotel such as a,microwave, mini fridge ,air conditioning or ventilation in the bathroom. Our noisy room was apparently inspected prior to our visit but had obvious signs that it in fact was either not inspected or very haphazardly inspected as evident by many thick black long hairs on the inside of my robe, the bathroom floors also had thick black long hairs as well...eww. The espresso cups still had stains inside. Another eww! I expect this from a lesser facility but not a 5 star hotel after specifically being told verbatim ' Your room is being inspected by the manager so we can hopefully check you in soon.' We in fact w8ed for nothing. We were offered a comp for daily breky buffet at 'Dominion' so that was a gr8 save from the manager and def eased the annoyance of a dirty room and sloppy check in.Tyvm to the manager! It was nice to be able to check in early at 1pm as this alleviated undue stress to our pussies who w8ed ever so patiently in their carriers in the lobby. We were woken up daily at 8am by the loud sounds of drills and construction that was either directly above us or below us, very annoying when trying to sleep at 8am.This did eventually cease after 4 annoying noisy episodes. Absolutely the cleanest Hotel carpets ever as my white socks stayed ultra clean even after a day in the room, usually we have hotel slippers but no need here as the carpets r new and very clean.Gorgeously appointed hotel showcasing rustic pacific coast architecture with a thoroughly modern feel with clean lines and warm wood throughout. Civic is def staffed by ppl offering elite customer service. Never once did we ever feel we were in the staffs way,...superb customer service standards demonstrated by the entire hotel team from front desk to Manager.Big shout out to our daily cleaning lady as she was so accommodating to our 5 star pussies travelling with us.Hazel & Lucy appreciate it! Gorgeous outdoor lap pool and clean jacuzzi tub too! Luxurious sturdy deck furniture with adjustable loungers, chairs and side tables. Plush towels on deck, changerooms with free secure lockers, private showers with quality shampoo & conditioner.Changeroom facilities need to be cleaned at least once a day as my lint from monday was still on the floor on tuesday. js. 5 star $269/night. Overall, clean, newish & well managed, 5 star hotel with eager attentive staff. I like their 'can do' 5 star service and u will too. If ur gonna go 5 star, this may b 4 u if u get a room high up with a western exposure. Add ac,mini-fridges and a microwave to all rooms and this place would be complete. Very tailored to the business demographic. Excellent Restaurant, do experience Dominion restuarant especially for happy hour. ( c full review of Dominion Kitchen + Pub ) Love, love, love the room stewardess, she was warm, genuine and worked so very hard. This lady digs her gig and it shines thru and thru. Super secure building too.Love the front open courtyard.Do b mindful on the pool deck and u will hear thr gentle chime of nells lulling u into a calm state of comfort.Nice. Lovely "Illy" espresso machine in our room
Diana L.

This Marriott hotel is about a year old, but still felt brand new. All built with a modern flare. Staff were friendly & very helpful! Rooms are clean and quite comfortable! Beds are firm and have been made with cotton sheets & fluffy comforters. Towels in the bathroom are thick and fluffy. Our room was equipped with an Illy-branded espresso machine. Lovely! We were greeted in our room with a welcome note from the general manager & some snacks. Nice touch! Each room has large window panes. There is also a large pane window in the bathroom. Lovely views! The pane windows all have draw-down shade. Blackout curtains are provided for the window in the room but not in bathroom. Our room was East-facing and the sun was lighting up our room before 5am even with the room's blackout curtains closed. Sun was shining strong through the shaded bathroom pane window. This also caused the entire room to get stuffy & warm. The air conditioner is quite weak & therefore, our room was provided with a floor fan. Thank goodness, it is still in the early summer season when it still is not too warm! Also, outside signage is poor for parking directions. It is not clear where to park your car until we ask the front desk when we first arrived. We had circled the block twice before asking for help. Overall, hospitality was wonderful at this clean & comfortable hotel. I knocked off a star for the weak air conditioner, no blackout curtain for all the large pane windows & for the poor signage outside for parking directions.

Beautiful, new and modern looking rooms.

Resulting in a 20-minute wait with me being the second person in line 2) Nobody onsite actually managing the pools '10pm-11pm adults only policy' that is has posted. Yeah, this was a joke. 3) Front desk lacking basic customer service skills. Lacking in effort to assist more than the status quo. Certainly not Marriott standard. Liked: 1) Hotel was clean 2) Housekeeping was exceptional and provided more than status quo service. Thank you for everything you do! 3) Overnight front desk ladies were pleasant and inviting. Overall, this property looks great on paper. When viewing from Marriott.com, it stands out. However, it does not do a good job of making sure all guests feel valued. It focuses on Higher tier members, and the rest do not matter as much. This hotel comes at a premium and is very outdated in room (especially shower/tub combo). This hotel was planned to be my go-to hotel, as I visit the area once every 2 months. That is unlikely at this point. I would recommend checking out the Civic Hotel nearby instead. They do a better job delivering Marriott's standards of service.

P&P is the first bed and breakfast we've ever stayed at and I think it might ruin most if not all…read moreof our future bed and breakfast stays. This is a beautiful little hotel in the suburbs of Murrayville. The historical inn has been beautiful restored and furnished - like traveling to a different time and place but with all the modern amenities of wifi, cable, central air-conditioning, and good quality plumbing. We had the privilege of staying in the Cinderella room (website photos give a nice idea of what each room is like). Beautifully decorated and on the side of the home where the rose vines grow. Impeccably clean. The bed was firm and pillows soft. One of the things we loved the most were the little details and touches: the hand painted quote from Mr. Murray, the artwork labels for each suite, the signature "P" on the hangers, and the chocolate & maple syrup welcome treats. Breakfast was brought to our door right on time and beautifully presented. The muffins were still warm and the high quality porcelain teapot kept our tea nice and hot. A filling continental breakfast! Kudos to Angela and her family for creating such a beautiful space and for their excellent service and communication. Can't wait to be back for a little staycation!

I stumbled across this B&B while browsing for a romantic getaway in British Columbia…read more The whole B&B is fairytale themed and so you can book the "snow white room", the "cinderella room", the "little red riding hood room" and more, you get the idea. Everything is spotlessly clean and nicely decorated without adding too much kitsch to the whole affair. The bed was comfortable and we loved the deep soaking bathtub we used to relax after a rainy day. The fireplace in our room kept us cozy and warm all night long and we would have loved to spend another night here. The (free) Wifi was super fast by the way! We met Wally on our stay and had a nice chat with him. He is super friendly and all about organic food and sustainability. The breakfast is pretty basic but good to get your day started with coffee, cereal, fruits and self-baked fruit-muffins. If you are interested you can get lots of information about the history of this B&B, Wally's family history and you can even touch a piece of the Berlin wall! We had a great night at this B&B and would love to come back! When we left we even got a glass of organic jam to take home, so nice to have such a delicious reminder of our weekend.
