Made an appointment for my dog to be seen, they have all of his information on file and failed to tell me he needed a rabies vaccine BEFORE he was seen. the appointment was somewhat urgent, I waited 4 days for their soonest appointment, took off work to bring my dog in, and spent 30 minutes explaining why he was being seen before they decided to inform me the vet wouldn't see him unless I bought the vaccine from them that moment. I let them know I get his vaccines at the shelter that does vaccine clinics for very affordable. Filled out the pre questionnaire form a day before as well. Still no information given from the clinic even after seeing his vaccination status. Complete waste of time and they exhibited no empathy or apologies for their mistake. Now I have to call another vet and make another appointment, wait longer for him to be seen, and take off work again to get him there. read more

I just wanted to give some kudos to the staff here at this vet clinic. We have been taking our golden retriever here since he was a puppy for the past 2 1/2 years. The atmosphere is usually peaceful and calm, and the environment is very clean and well kept. The prices are about average for care. The staff and doctor have always been very kind and caring towards our dog even though he can be a lot to deal with sometimes. We were fairly new to the clinic when he got neutered and he had some complications. The staff was very knowledgeable, helpful, and patient with us through that difficult time. I'm very happy with this clinic and I'm sorry and kind of surprised to see the other reviews here. Every experience we've had while visiting this clinic has been top notch and I really appreciate all they have done for our fur baby in keeping him happy and healthy. I feel confident and trust in the staff to take care of our dog who we love so much. He always seems happy to go there and enjoys seeing the staff, which tells me that they take good care of him even when I'm not present. Thanks again, everyone! read more

We absolutely adore this vet practice, and it's where we bring all of our animals (including our exotics). They are always professional, informative, and incredibly compassionate. We have seen them for everything from regular check-ups to euthanasia, and each member of their staff has been equally great to work with. They are up front about costs of tests before they perform them, and they perform all exams in the room when possible if you request it (some exams that require more specialized equipment must take place in the lab by necessity). We have never had difficulty getting an appointment when we need one, and while I'm sure there are less expensive options for a vet they have been worth every penny (we have not tried utilizing pet insurance there, so can't speak to that). read more

I recently moved to Thornton from Lakewood and needed to find a new vet. My cat gets monthly shots and I called asking to get her shot as well as a nail trim. I said my other vet also cleans her ear from time to time and that we might add that service. This one was close to my house, and seemed like it would be a good fit. I called and they did want to bring all of my medical records over from Lakewood veterinarian. So this was my experience. The positives were I was able to get an appointment right away. The facility was clean. I was able to get into a room right away, so no tense, waiting in the waiting room with other anxious pets. The vet tech came in and asked me some questions. They took my cat. I was a little surprised that the veterinarian didn't come in to see my cat. But rather was whisked way to another room. It just seemed weird. I actually didn't realize they were going to do an exam. My cat had already had her annual exam two months prior and all I really had asked for was her monthly shot and a nail trim. Eventually, the veterinarian came in with my cat And tried to talk me into a senior blood panel. I said I had just had that done and didn't she look at my records from my previous veterinarian? They were so insistent that they had to have both of my cats records before I could come in for my appointment I figured they would've read Them over. It was a new vet and I suppose that they did an exam was perhaps customary. I just wish they had explained to me what they were doing. The shot that I get for my cat is $80 in Lakewood but was $107 here. Then I ended up paying for an exam and the nail trim. When I asked about cleaning the ear, they were trying to sell me some ear cleaning fluid. I explained that my veterinarian typically cleaned my cats ear, but they weren't up for doing that, but wanted to send me home with cleaner. I already had that at home, so didn't want the extra expense. in the end, I didn't feel listened to, and I can only assume that they didn't look at any of my cats records before or during the exam. It's too bad it was a very nice facility. Easy to park and not far from my home. Trying to decide if this is the right fit for my cat. read more

I asked for exam to be in room... they took my animal out of the room to do the exam...against my request... This place is not always upfront in the costs of what they were doing, so have them write it out for you so you don't end up with an astronomical bill! This seems to be a common problem from what I have read.For example, sub Q fluids $70 there. (I have never paid this much) and when I mentioned the atrocity of this price ... Dr Fujikawa's response was, "this is how much it costs to run a vet clinic." Also, I was told a follow up visit was $30 but then when I came in was $39. *****They seem more about making money off you than providing affordable quality care.******* Another example, when dr suggested X-rays he mentioned they were 600-800$! Again (never paid this much for an X-ray) I had two rabbits that were on the same medication and for this reason I was asking for a bigger bottle because it is more cost-effective. The vet first would not respond and then when I brought it up again, he told me in a snappy tone, "that's bad veterinary medicine! It's an NSAID!" This makes no sense whatsoever the only thing I can think is he wants to keep having me come back ... to pay more... As I have never had a vet have a problem with this. Lastly, I had a rabbit with three different bacterial infections (this had been going on a long time) and was told to give him the medicine two times a day for the infection for 14 days (which is what I was trying to do) and they charged me for the full 14 days BUT DID NOT GIVE 14 days of medicine ( UNETHICAL). And when I called Monday AM to get what I should have already had( so that my rabbit could follow through with the vets prescription of 14 days treatment and prevent building resistance to medicine...) the receptionist (also the clinic manager) whisper implied me I was giving the medicine to other bunnies. Instead of addressing the problem she attempted to put the blame on me! This is very shady and very unethical. I was appalled. And then after I told her I don't just give medication to animals that don't need it, she could not do anything till tomorrow since the vet was not in today. This seems to be another theme throughout their care... instead of taking responsibility for their actions the blame was put on the customer for the lack of full 14 days treatment of medicine (even though I was just attempting to advocate for my bun who still is supposed to be on the medicine that I have already paid for!) That I don't have and never did have 14 days worth! Although the receptionist tried to say that three people double checked it "but it was not her..." Why would anyone give antibiotics to an animal that does not need it and is not being prescribed it?! These people have no faith or trust in pet owners from what I have experienced. They do not own up to their mistakes and they will gladly charge you without giving proper care and then blame you In a pinch you can get in to this place... but there's a reason why... read more

I don't leave bad reviews, but I am so upset. We brought a sick hamster in that wasn't able to open her eyes and was falling over. I have had several hamsters in the past. I have brought them into the vet before with the response, "This is a very sick hamster and they don't usually recover when they show symptoms of illness. I'm sorry there's nothing we can do." I have learned when hamsters get sick like this they don't usually recover. I did however think that maybe she would get better when her eyes were treated if that was what was causing her to have balance issues. I went into the clinic with my 2 boys really thinking this hamster wasn't going to get better, but I would try. Dr Joseph Fujikawa took the hamster back for $105 evaluation. He came back and said we had a very sick hamster that not only had diarrhea was dehydrated also had an eye infection, but also had unrelated neurological problem. He said that the hamster had a 50% chance of survival and possibly had low blood sugar that would fix the balance issues, but could have other brain neurological problems. He reiterated that this hamster is very sick. I felt that this hamster would not recover finding out the neurological problems were a whole another issue and from what I have learned in the past about hamsters. I also felt that the 50% chance of survival was inaccurate. He said your other option is euthanasia. When I asked how much that was going to be, they quoted me over $400 for the least expensive. I said that I would talk to my husband, and felt the price was ridiculous, but I am thinking of taking the hamster home. He said, "Oh, we can't let that happen. It's not our policy for you to be able to take a suffering hamster home. Either you have to treat it or euthanize it." he made me feel like I was uncaring and a terrible person, and how could I even think about taking this sick hamster home. I felt I didn't have any options. I wish I would've thought of saying I want to take my hamster home and we will get a second opinion, but I didn't think of saying that at the time. He had me up against the wall and I didn't feel like I had other options.I let the girls know how upset I was and they said the office manager would call me on Monday. They also didn't tell me I could leave and had a right to refuse treatment. I ended up treating the hamster and paying $311, because I no other option to get my hamster back. The hamster died two hours later. After talking to the manager and explaining the story and wanting to be in reimbursed, she said that I had every right to deny the services. That was untrue as he did not give me that option! The girls in the office did not give me that option either when I told them how upset I was . I felt threatened and I felt he was not compassionate and instead very greedy. I maybe should've just left the facility with my kids, but they loved that hamster! I just don't want this to happen to anyone else! I'm not usually a person to complain, but I definitely don't feel that this was right! I also asked the office manager Jessica if it was their policy to force euthanasia with a dying hamster and she said no they recommend it, but they cannot force it. Well, he definitely forced me to make a decision and played on all of our emotions while we were there. read more

Nice new place and friendly folks working there. The good - we got in for appointment same day since we had a minor injury to be treated and our normal vet was booked. Cons - expensive for just about all the services offered there compared to all other vets we've been to in North Metro area, including a couple 24-hour vet visits for emergencies. Antibiotics more expensive here, rabies shot was almost $50. Think last vet for our other same size dog for rabies shot charged about $30 just a few months ago. Would recommend asking them to confirm all charges at the estimate stage to avoid being surprised at check out. If you are searching for competitive or low-cost vet services this is not the place to go to, but the care provided here was thorough. read more

Both times i went in I was quoted a price that literally doubled when we were ready to pay , quoted $22 for nail trim and charged $47 because they added a $25 dollar "exam" that we did not ask for. We brought our dog in that they took away to be examined and were quoted $200 and then charged over $400 on the way out with a cone that cost $25 we didnt even need or ask for as well as $100 meds.!I recommend get every quote in writing and have them examine your pet in the room with you there. read more

I really gave this place a shot a couple times and I never leave low reviews, but I'm upset. I took my puppy there for her initial visit where they wanted to take her "in the back" and I said "No, I want to be with her". They didn't seem pleased. Then was being sold on services and products before the Vet actually examined my puppy and told me they had a "puppy package" that costs $800 and would be more unless I bought that day. I HATE being forced into decisions like that, but we ended up signing up for the package that included her spay and all she would need with vaccinations etc. She also had a hernia that needed repair and said it wouldn't be more than $200-$300 more to repair that since she will already be down. So this week we take her in for her spay, they wouldn't tell us how long she would be there and gave us a new range of $380-$405 MAX to do the repair and tried to upsell us that day to do the dew claws as well. We declined the dew claws, but moved forward with the surgery. Everything went well with surgery, but then called right after at 1:30 to come pick her up by 2pm. We made it work and came around 2:30. THEN we look at the bill and the puppy package and the hernia surgery doesn't include the cone to deter her from opening her stitches AND the medications needed to heal and keep her comfortable. When I asked about this they said "oh we are sorry, we make it very clear that these items are not included". The final bill was an additional $615 dollars after their 20% discount (which I still don't know where that came from or if it's just to soften the blow of the cost). I've felt Nickel and Dimed for things that should be a part of the surgery and just feel like we are another dollar for them. The staff is cranky and nothing is transparent. DO NOT GO HERE! They are not transparent nor do they know how to handle dogs. Services were not rendered and they will lie to any regulatory agencies you contact. I wish I would have read the yelp reviews before taking my dog here. Summary of my visit below: Initial appointment was on 3/6/2024 for Champ to receive an exam and his Bordetella. Upon arriving Champ was not greeted and once I tried to get him on the scale, he panicked. The front desk workers did not offer treats or talk to champ to put him at ease. Once in the exam room they were going to try to take champ for an exam and to look at his ears. They were not able to get his weight and I don't see how they were able to 'exam' him if they couldn't get near him. They brought him back and told me to reschedule so they could check his ears. They provided a prescription to trazodone to calm him for the next visit. I gave my dog 1 as instructed and brought him back on 3-07-2024. Again they were not able to look at his ears. They sent me home with 2 swabs and I agreed to bring it back the next day. I brought back the swabs at noon on 3-08-2024. They took the swabs back to the vet who then said to charge for an ear cytology. The office manager Katie stated they were putting the charges in. I asked what are the charges? She said it's $88 (or another similar amount). I said wait, I paid for the exam already and no one told me there would be another charge for the ear cytology. I asked will there be another charge for the ear rinse that he is supposed to get? She said yes that's $65. I told her that I appreciate transparency that they didn't provide and to stop services. She said I'm sorry I can find you some low cost clinics near by. I reiterated that it's not that, it's the lack of transparency. I walked out and walked back in to get her name and she provided her card stating she's the manager and that I would end up talking to her anyway. I'm closing, City Vet is engaging in unfair business practices by misleading customers on the price for services. If I could give 0 stars, I would. My experience with CityVet Thornton was deeply disappointing and concerning. I brought my dog in for surgery the quality of care provided was terrible. The initial surgery was done and they didn't even bother to clean it up. The incision site looked horrible. Not even 48 hours after the surgery, my dog's sutures began to open despite being on bedrest and wearing a cone at all times. When I went to CityVet Thornton for assistance, I was turned away and told they couldn't do anything about it. I had to seek immediate help from an emergency vet to address the issue, which resulted in additional stress and financial burden. The emergency vet tech even said "what the hell?" when I showed the picture of his initial incision. They placed a couple staples and cleaned the incision up, like the original should have been. The staples helped keep that area closed, but the rest of the incision completely opened up a few days later and I had to rush him to the emergency vet again due to the poor quality of the original surgery. They had to completely redo the entire surgery which caused us more stress, more money spent, and, most importantly, our poor dog had to start from step one all over again. This time, the incision looked clean and has started to heal correctly. I reached out to CityVet and explained the situation with pictures for proof and requested reimbursement for the subsequent treatment. I was shocked by their response. They attempted to blame us, suggesting that the sutures came undone due to us not calling them for sedatives. My dog is very low energy and he was under constant supervision where he was not allowed to run, jump, or even go up more than one stair. They said that is the only way they would have come undone and failed to take responsibility for how terrible the initial surgery looked. The lack of accountability and refusal to take responsibility for their errors is unacceptable. Not only did this ordeal result in additional surgery for my dog, but it also caused unnecessary distress for both him and our family. The disregard for proper care and the dismissive attitude towards our concerns were unacceptable. We will not be returning here and I urge pet owners to consider alternative veterinary options where the well-being of their animals is treated with the utmost care and responsibility. read more

Was so impressed with how kind , compassionate and caring the staff was when our snake Fang was injured and subsequently passed away. They sent us a personalized card afterwards and we hadn't even had the chance to bring him in for his appointment as he was too ill.
