If you only do one thing when you visit Belfast you should book a bus tour with Belfast City Tours (www.citytoursbelfast.com). If you can, ask for Mora as your guide to ensure you get an in-depth and impartial tour of the city. We paid for the 90 minute political tour but were treated to nearly four hours of sightseeing with perhaps the most knowledgeable guide it has been my fortune to meet. Moras encyclopaedic knowledge of Northern Ireland's history, amongst many other subjects, left our group of four with a far greater understanding of the recent volatile history of Northern Ireland but with the reasons dating back centuries to explain how the Troubles came about. Possibly most importantly this tour was presented in an impartial and unbiased manner coupled with a very evident sense of hope for the future. The presentation style is relaxed with illustrations and descriptions that are tailored for the audience and make the seemingly complicated history understandable to all. Whilst travelling round the city we saw other tours where customers were taken to locations but then really left to look for themselves with little or no explanation.
Even if you only have an afternoon in Belfast this tour will leave you with a fuller understanding of the city you have visited and also a positive, 'feel good' feeling about an area that few of us really understand in my opinion. More than worth the price per passenger. read more
