When I woke and entered my kitchen the next morning, the entire kitchen smelled of wonderful FRESH tomatoes. When is the last time grocery store tomatoes scented your entire kitchen? That's when I decided to be a member. I'd much rather take that comforting drive down the driveway to the farm than maneuver around pedestrians in a busy parking lot in search of a parking space. There's something about hearing a rooster crow that makes me slow down, take a deep breath and appreciate the day for a moment before returning my daily hustle. BTW, best marinara sauce ever!

Do Good Farm located in Winter Garden, near the Roper YMCA, is doing more than good. They are changing lives across the globe, all while reducing our carbon footprint through regenerative, sustainable farming practices. Their small 1.5 acres farm is home to a luscious food forest, goats, chickens, hydroponic crops and so much more! They use no-till farming practices and no chemicals anywhere on the farm. The food grown is free of pesticides, herbicides, insecticides and harsh fertilizers. According to Owner/Operator, Josh Taylor (owner of HouseBlends Cafe in Ocoee) they are able to harvest foods year round and are partnering with communities across the world to help train them in these sustainable practices - hoping to end world hunger. Yes, they do offer a CSA where you can fill a crate every other week with fresh produce and eggs straight from the farm! BUT even more exciting than clean eating is their DINNER BELL. Do Good Farm hosts The Dinner Bell al fresco dining experience a few times a year in the "cooler" months. We attended the November 2020 Dinner Bell and were blown away by the beauty of this small but mighty local farm! We were greeted with a lovely cider spiced from their allspice plant on property. This is an interactive dining experience starting with a self-guided tour as you follow the romantic fairy lights through the food forest to two stations offering hot appetizers and wine pairings. Listen for the dinner bell and make your way to the main stage where Chef/Owner, Josh Taylor, prepares the two entree courses LIVE while also speaking about their mission and food practices (for example, why the grind the whole wheat grain to make flat bread and retain nutrients, etc...) Each course is served with a very nice wine pairing (Conundrum, Dreaming Tree, Josh, and others.) The sweetest part of the night is dessert served fireside, under the stars and beneath their gorgeous Neem tree (nature's bug repellent.) They highlight which ingredients used in each dish are from the farm - it seemed to me that more than 85%, maybe 90%, of the ingredients used were harvested directly from Do Good, cooked a served to us that day. The staff was so gracious, welcoming and worked tirelessly to ensure that every detail was on point. And as if trying to end world hunger wasn't thanks enough, each guest took home a "giveaway" - fresh farm eggs tied with a bow. The food was delicious and I even felt great the next morning even though we stuffed ourselves that night; which is a true testament to the quality of the food served. I cannot recommend enough that you go and experience Do Good Farm yourself! They offer farm tours, volunteer opportunities but if a lovely night out is your thing, sign up for the Dinner Bell! The proceeds from their CSA and The Dinner Bell go directly to their mission and to continue their work locally on the farm. I signed up and have been with this service ever since. Lucinda, founder/owner, is such a fantastic person too. One year I inquired if she knew of any way to get a turkey for Thanksgiving. She went well out of her way to hook me up. Always happy to work around unique requests and special dietary needs, the service has been great. Here's how it works: You sign up and if you like, you can make a list of produce you're not a fan of (and it won't end up in your box). Each weekend we get the email blast telling us the boxes are ready for review (and what items are needed this week for the local homeless shelter). You login, check your box, make substitutions if you want to switch anything out, add items (you can shop!) that maybe weren't in your box like fruit, veggies, meat, eggs, butter, seasonings, oils.... you get the idea. And then, come your delivery day, you put out your box (with any donations you can make to the homeless) and they switch it out with one full of delicious, fresh, organic produce. I've had meat, eggs, butter, veggies and fruit delivered with no problems at all. It's always perfectly chill despite our roasty, hot Florida summers. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone looking to increase their organic intake, who love the idea of supporting our humane/organic agriculture/farms, who like to give back to the community (this element is completely voluntary, but it does leave you with a warm fuzzy feeling). There are patches here and there where the produce might not change much because of what's in season. I typically may just skip a week here and there if I get more of something than I can handle. The site is set up in a way that managing your schedule is a snap. Push a button to skip/add weeks or go on vacation. Super easy, super delish. I've been to The Farmacy's store front in the past and it's a pretty small selection of specialty…read moreitems for the most part. However, they have truly embraced the times and stepped up to coordinate one of the most seamless order pick ups with far more options than they can normally house in their store location in collaboration with their local farm suppliers. It was a really great way to get access to local food in a time when innovation is most appreciated as is the ability to access fresh food when the normal grocery stores are overwhelmed with visitors. I will definitely continue to support this great local business that has made things easier in a time when many things are harder. Edit: apparently the store front has closed (unrelatedly- they announced this coming change on January 8th due to a failed lease renewal) but the business is still running through their pick up at 8505 Silver Star Rd and online ordering. The system was actually designed prior to these times and just happened to line up perfectly). This family run business is passionate about improving access to locally grown and more organic foods, and they have done an amazing job.
