We love this church! Our family started attending when it was known as Victory Baptist Church on Alameda, now continue worshipping as CityLight. Overall a lovely church - a bit male heavy / skewed (not a positive or negative just something to note lol) and a bit mixed like some people seem very invested and others seemed a bit disassociated / aloof. I do not often leave reviews but I genuinely have the heart to share what Citylight has done for me these past few years. The my genuinely preach God's word in a way that is easy to digest, especially for someone who was new to their faith at the time. The community is so full of love. I am good friends now with people in all walks of life. They are a bible opening church. They do not take one verse or scattered verses to preach a "theme." they take God's word for what it is, and that alone has the power to change lives and hearts. It has changed mine, and I personally love the preaching style. I love the passion on display and i think a certain element of that is necessary. Each pastor here is so incredibly talented and they do not twist God's word but preach it at face value. Honestly it was a good church at first BUT then last service I was called out in front of the crowd because my daughter who was 1 years old was clapping but it wasn't even loud and then I had to get up to use the restroom so supposedly to the pastor who had a stroke 2 years ago it was too much for him to handle so I am no longer able to attend with my baby or have to put her in the nursery but I don't trust no one with my baby and I feel like that would just make more issues because if I see a bruise or anything on my kid that I didn't see prior to attending of course I'm going to come out of character about my child. I had to exit the service to use the bathroom and that distracted him too but I just had my baby last year and she caused a lot of internal damage so I can't hold my bathroom business at all so if I have to go I have to go but honestly if he can't multitask or be okay with people having to use the bathroom then he should praise the lord in the crowd and let someone else who can preach without getting upset that people have to use the bathroom. He stutters to much anyways you can barely understand what he's saying half the time. Overall it just ruined me trying to find my faith, I rather go to the church in the ghetto. They don't care what you look like, how you dress, or if you got kids or not they just want you to show up and praise the lord. read more

I've been coming here since Dec 2018! Everyone here are like family and it's nothing but love and care for one another. Many people had reached out to pastor nick for anything and he has always been there. The music team are just so uplifting and can get you on your feet and clapping with them. We did not have a great experience here. The staff or volunteer that helps in the child care area was not welcoming at all and refused to give my 5 year old child a cookie bag because my child was not dressed in a costume (keep in mind this was our first day, we had no idea it was a costume day). The girl was completely rude and unwelcoming. I hope they have replaced her or she has learned a lesson. To deny any child a treat/snack is not ok. read more

For a long time I was looking for a church in where doctrine was more important than the "right" atmosphere or music. Stepping into Citylight, formally Victory Baptist, not only was I greeted by friendly workers but Pastor Nick Reed preached a relevant, but convicting message. Finding Citylight (formerly Victory Baptist) is like finding an oasis in the desert. When I moved to Los Angeles visited over 25 churches; not one came close to comparing to CityLight. The preaching here presents the gospel message as powerful and relevant to all situations even in the Post Modern culture in which we live. (They clearly teach how to apply it! Their doctrine is that the Bible is the inspired word of God that has no errors, that Jesus was God in the flesh and that repentance of personal sin and trust in Jesus' resurrection is the only ticket to go to Heaven. Many of the people appear genuine and caring. There are services on Sunday a.m. and p.m. as well as Bible study on Wednesday nights. The praise music is very good but would be enhanced by some more traditional hymns Kids programs are being improved. A good church to grow spiritually. Good fellowship.! read more

I've spent the vast majority of my life away from any church or religion. Through a course of related events, and the gentle nudging by my daughter, we both visited a service at Victory Baptist Church (now Citylight Baptist Church) while she was visiting during summer break. I felt awkward at first among all these "believers". They were certainly cordial enough, and very welcoming to a stranger. I felt it was okay for me to be there since my daughter had recently become a Christian. Actually, it was more than alright. They wanted me to be there. I felt at home with the singing and even found the preaching engaging and clever. So, we continued to go and I'll be marking the 1 year anniversary of that first visit, next month. I have gone on to accept Jesus into my life, get biblically baptized, and participate on the worship team, and can think of no better church family I'd rather share that time with. My first visit to Citylight Baptist Church was awesome; the sermon was spirit-filled, the people welcomed me with opened arms, child-friendly environment and lots more. My husband and I were invited by my husband's coworker to a "thing where my church gives $5 to a homeless ministry for everyone who shows up" at 10am on Sunday (today--7/24/16). We were excited to spend some time interacting with her and others over this common goal of raising funds for the homeless community. We arrived at what was quite clearly a church service, complete with singing, a 45 minute sermon, a request for our personal information (phone numbers, address, email address, marital status, etc.), a 5-10 minute heads-bowed-altar-call, an offering, a call for funds for the church's new meeting space, a video promotion for the upcoming Kids' Camp, plenty of handshaking, and too many "we're happy to have you here" greetings for it to be a fundraising event. They did squeeze in a video, testimony, and musical performance from the homeless ministry leader, so at least the homeless community got an honorable mention of sorts. We were told that an additional $5 would be extended to the homeless ministry if we left a Yelp review of Citylight Baptist Church, so here is your review. My husband and I, both children of a pastor and an elder, were raised in Bible-based churches and have continued our relationship with Jesus Christ into adulthood, so we are intimately familiar with fellowshipping with others as we worship God together. The pretense under which our invitation to this church was extended was at its core deceptive, manipulative, and an appalling reflection on how this particular body of Christ behaves in an attempt to "let [their] light shine before men that they may see [their] good works, and glorify [their] Father which is in heaven." read more
