This City Road convenience store's location is both its biggest blessing and in proximity to its chief competitor. It must be tricky to compete with the discounting might of Spar across the road, but then anybody who has ever frequented that store would probably welcome any alternative to a particularly depressing, dim hole of a shop. The stock in City Superstore wins the battle as well, especially if you're satisfied by a weird selection of Space Raiders crisps, exotic soft drinks, thrifty booze deals and cooking ingredients from the sub-continent. The staff aren't anywhere near friendly enough to encourage return visits, though that isn't really what convenience stores like this are all about: old-fashioned functionality outweighs any need for bells and whistles. City Superstore fulfils its purpose with unfussy economy for impulse bought snacks or top-up grocery shopping, and that's the main thing that really matters with outlets like this. read more
