I brought my daughters here for their first time on 8/27/2022. It was my first time visiting the City-maintained park in over ten years. While it has some new-to-me features, I think that in the coming years there could be some major improvements. There was ample parking. On a sidenote, when we were there, two large dogs were not on leashes playing fetch with their owners. My dog is no longer around, so I often walk my brother's pitbull and want to start walking my other brother's German Shepherd... good dog owners know where I'm going with this. Just be careful when going to any park with your dog in this town. The "let's all win, toss it in the bin" campaign certainly seems to help keep waste off the ground. Here, it's printed on large signs with trash cans spread throughout the park. Much appreciated! Now if we could just get all of the morons to stop throwing trash out their car windows... TIP + The Hobbs Farmers Market is held every Saturday from 9 AM to 1 PM at Green Meadows Park.

In Jefferson's defense, it is on the south side of town - meaning it's too far for most Hobbsans to consider - plus it's tucked away in a lesser known area. I used to teach at the elementary nearby over 10 years ago... I don't recall any of this being within short walking distance of the school: + basketball courts + bbq grills + lights + pavilions + picnic tables + playground + restrooms + sand volleyball courts + soccer goals + youth baseball fields (still referred to as Bensing Park) + & a .80-mile walking path I give this city park 4 stars because while it has great amenities, it is not at all debris-free nor is it in a particularly nice neighborhood.

Del Norte Dog Park. I think this is the only official "dog park" in Hobbs, NM…read more Nope, this is not cutting it for a dog park, though. Broken glass in the streets. Beer cans always in the parking lot near here. Trash everywhere. Dog owners not picking up after their canines. Sticker patches in the large dog area - huge ones that I noticed they tried to weed whack down, but the damn things are still all over the ground. I walk a 75-pound pitbull here often early mornings and constantly see other dogs not on leashes. They run immediately towards us. It's always small dogs. Makes me nervous because I never want to see this sweet girl get provoked. When you face the entrance, the small dog area is over to the left. A communal area is in the middle. Large dog area is to the right. All of them have separate fencing and gates. Don't come here in the evenings when all the youngsters are revving up their engines and trying to be cool nearby. It's a late night hangout for them. PROS + the gates are set up nicely + dog waste stations + obstacle courses + free, ample parking within walking distance + one water station in the communal area

By no means does the Hobbs Veterans Memorial Park possess anywhere near the past and signifance that Normandy does. Still, I walked with one of my young daughters there recently (3/22/2023) to discuss the reason behind veteran memorials and the impact that history has had on us Americans. She is currently 8-years-old & seemed to have grasped these stories very quickly. In Lea County alone, there are "over 8,000 veterans." There are a few in my family. Our neighbors. Our friends. So I think it's important that my children understand freedom comes with a heavy price. Every parent should explain this to their family even if they don't agree with or like the past. In order for us to not repeat the bad events, we have to examine history. We have to be prepared at all times. Moving onto this particular site... There is a small parking lot at no charge. Features of this memorial include: + a large brick sign + flags of America (fly, baby fly!), New Mexico, and POW MIA in addition to all of the United States Armed Forces + F-105 fighter jet used during the Vietnam War + military chopper (I couldn't find any info on its history) + markers honoring each branch of the military & several wars in which the U.S. was involved + 2 placques "in appreciation to the men & women" who served on the Hobbs Army Air Field - which is approximately where the memorial sits today There are a number of individuals to express my gratitude for this, but for now I will say thank you, District 5 City Commissioner and United States Army Veteran Dwayne Penick, for your vision and for helping this dream come true. Thank you Hobbs native and former U.S. Congressman Steve Pearce for locating the jet which was apparently "delivered at no cost to the city." The Ziaplex is a softball and baseball complex on the east side of Hobbs, NM…read more Adult softball games used to take place here. I'm not in a league anymore, but I have many great memories playing slo-pitch with all the old farts. Lol. Little league baseball games continue to be played out here. It's a good thing because there are 4 fields with the all 4 backstops back-to-back against one another. Kevin Naegele and Kevin Wells are two historical figures we should give thanks to for these fields. Dogs, except service dogs, are not allowed. Restrooms are available. Ample, free parking is also available, but they ask that RVs, trucks with trailers and other big rigs not park in the lot. I seem to recall my dad parking out on the street when he had his long trailers. This complex is taken care of by the City of Hobbs, therefore, it is usually well-kempt.

*** Updated review ***…read more Today is February 7, 2023. For months, I've been documenting the lack of care that Del Norte Park has been getting. The photos I've collected of the same stuff over and over again is pathetic. Needless to say, this place could use a lot more maintenance and attention than it has been getting. There are several solutions to these problems. It is my observance that no one from the City of Hobbs is taking initiative. Sure, they empty the multiple regular tan-colored bins that they have. Sometimes they pick up trash. Sometimes they fill holes that the prairie dogs have created. But there's a lot more to be done. Does the city think people don't use the parks during the winter? I do. Five days a week at this one, at least. The weather was warm the past two days. Today it is cold again. If there's anything parents should have learned through the pandemic, it's that their kids need to be OUTSIDE more. Why would I bring my kids and their cousins here if it is unkempt and trashy? Since September, tire rubber has not been swept off the sidewalk (most likely a**hole kids with their mommy & daddy's money doing burnouts). Since October, the dog waste bins have not been emptied. Since forever, drinking in the parking lots has been rampant. (Legitmate question: WHY do folks, i.e. most likely underaged users, drink from glass bottles then smash them everywhere? Maybe more trash cans need to be set up there???) I guess there are other priorities for law enforcement to enforce, however, the broken glass everywhere (not exaggerating as it has been getting worse and worse since December 2022) should be swept up every week. They haven't been. I have to navigate my brother's dog around the sidewalk in hopes that she doesn't get any pieces stuck in her paws. An assumed drug addict was digging in the red bricks one day... Then the next day the bricks were moved around. For weeks after that incident, the dog sniffed the area where this person was digging and carving away. How about, oh I don't know, re-mortar them? Golly this is neverending... Alas, I go here almost everyday. I have a house in the city limits. It's so frustrating to see a lack of pride not to mention virtually no security. Nowadays, most parks have cameras and security driving around. This one hardly any cameras. Never seen security here in my life. But what good would they do if no one follows through with efficiency? Whenever the temperature is less than 50°F, the city workers are often seen just sitting in their trucks with the engine running. "Well, you don't know what they're doing." Right. Well, I also know what they're not doing with a "City of Hobbs" emblem on the side of their white pickups. Trash in the trees and all over the ground. Invent some easy-to-use wind proof trash bins already! The surrounding neighborhoods are not appeasing. They are downright unsightly. Does that mean the park doesn't need care? No. I've seen many loose dogs here. Had to re-route my path because I don't want any of them to f*** with my brother's pitbull (or as former Navy SEAL Mike Ritland prefers to call the breed, "bulldog"). We walk here because it's safer than walking the streets. Reference in point: "Two people, dog killed in hit-and-run" from front page of Hobbs News-Sun (2/7/2023). This has been happening frequently in Hobbs. Moreover, this incident happened a couple of blocks from this park albeit in an unlit area after sunset. Still, the dude was caught and later said he thought they were a dog or a deer. The dog was, in fact, a pitbull. With such distracted drivers, I was hoping Del Norte could be a sanctuary away from the insanity. Not particularly so, but the potential is still there. My tax money helps pay for the maintenance and security of this park. There are no good excuses in this whole scenario. Please give residents reasons to RAVE about Del Norte instead of this nonsense.

This place has a few pitfalls that keep me from not purchasing a yearly membership: First off, the wait to get to where you're going can be a bit much. The lines are a bit confusing as it is. They've since simplified it within the 9 months that I have lived here, but it could be even more simpler. Second, the clientele are less than appeasing. I tend to cause like a sailor, but not in public. It gets old. Amenities: + cardio equipment on the top floor + free weights, plate loaded, and selectorized machines on the bottom floor + gym (the floor is lined for basketball, volleyball, pickleball, four-square & shuffleboard) + indoor track + lap pool + locker room + personal trainer available + racquetball courts (2 available... reservations also available) + splash pad + spa (for ages 13 years & up) + sports programs (adult & youth) + studio & wellness classes + turf (soccer, flag football, ultimate frisbee, & golf) + water slides (4' & taller) My girls have participated in the volleyball classes here which were okay, but not very competitive. Just this past weekend (5/6/2023) I took the to the splash area for the first time area. Even though I declined to swim, I was still charged admission ($4 for the entire day). My 8 & 9-year-olds were charged $3 apiece for entry. In the splash area which is completely indoors, there are two sets of bleachers and multiple individual lounge chairs and side tables scattered all around. Free parking.

Harry McAdams Park is located on the north end of Hobbs, NM…read more It is right next to Rockwind Community Links, a popular public golf course with a grill/restaurant with indoor/outdoor dining on location. There is a walking path here as well. The Hobbs Veterans Memorial is also within walking distance as is the New Mexico State Police office, an old national guard armory, and a motor vehicle department office. This state park offers short-term RV camping. I have never experienced camping out here, but there are several amenities that I've noticed... + clean grounds + dump station + BBQ grills + disc golf course + pavilions + picnic tables + playground equipment + restrooms + sand volleyball courts Actually I agree with my brother's girlfriend - this park has the best sand volleyball pit in all of Hobbs. TIPS + leashed dogs are allowed + the Lovington Highway Health Walk is nearby... it's a concrete walking/running path that runs parallel with a Lovington Highway. Good for dogs, bikes, scooters, roller blades, etc.

Heizer Park in Hobbs, NM is about the same as it has ever been…read more The city park is located on the southernmost side of town in a somewhat dilapidated neighborhood. There are a few newer additions which is great. Here's what Heizer offers: + basketball courts + baseball field (it's a bit rundown but at least there's a backstop) + BBQ pits + gazebos + playgrounds (one for smaller kids & one for bigger kids) + picnic tables + public restrooms + swings (including one for babies) It's also supposedly dog-friendly, however, I didn't see any dog waste receptacles. The park is decent, no frills, missing artwork & aesthetics, and has some graffiti. On 2/12/2024, though, it was debris-free which is an improvement to how it has been since I was in high school over 20 years ago. The biggest bummer was the decision to close down the nearby Heizer Pool last year. My friends & I had memories there. That's what kids do - make memories for adulthood. Bring back Heizer Pool so the future generations can experience the hot summer sun & dunk our brothers' heads in the water like we did! (No siblings were seriously hurt as a result of said actions.)

Folks all over town always joke about the south side of town. This amuses me in a number of ways, but I digress... The park is equipped with the following: - Baseball fields - Basketball courts - BBQ grill - Benches - Concrete paths (i mention this for the little ones on their bikes & scooters) - Lights - Little library - Pavilions - Picnic tables - Playground - Restrooms - Shade trees - Soccer field w/bleachers - Softball fields - Swing sets - Volleyball courts (sand) Also visible and a short walk away is Washington Heights Park. It has a splash pad, a smaller playground and picnic tables. Took off a star because of shattered glass near the playground plus there was a group of kids racing across the grass on 4-wheelers & go-karts.
