Many local businesses commissioned a IG or selfie worthy scarecrows. Some are humbly done and others are more ornate, much like the ice festivals. There's always much family, fun & food at the Fall Festival. There are some fun craft and artist booths to browse through too. Each year we say "goodbye" to some favorites and we welcome some new artists as well. On Sunday we returned for the amazing annual Rotary club chicken Dinner! We got chicken, corn on cob & potato chips & a cookie. The chicken is always awesome & tasty! We love this annual event, along with the great people watching! The bands this year were exceptional and people were even dancing with their dogs! I should have gotten a video because it was so much fun to see this one guy dancing on the lawn with his Great Dane! We saw that man who dresses up like Abraham Lincoln too! The weather was great and a great time was had by all! Thank you to the city of Plymouth for having these great functions & getting families to make memories together. See you next year!!

BURN IN HELL Or at…read moreleast while attached to a hearse. The man that designed this custom built bar and grill does just that at least once a year when he treks with the trailer to Hell, Michigan with his "open casket" grill. The grill, which was built over the course of 80 to 100 hours at The TechShop of Allen Park, is made out of a modified casket. The shell of the casket is mounted to a portable tow-behind trailer, so it draws onlookers when being transported behind a hearse, but with no visible tie-downs. (Video of the creator talking about the grill: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0RXI8DHWgo) It contains a four-burner stainless steel grill that boasts 48,000 Btu of power. It boasts 496 square inches of cooking space, with electronic ignition and porcelain-coated, heavy-gauge wire cooking grates and a 20-pound propane tank. The other half of the casket includes a marine style waterproof radio and a 27-gallon cooler with built-in drainage features. Of course, the grill wouldn't be complete without tools that all have "Open Casket Bar and Grill" laser etched into their handles, and custom-made salt and pepper shakers. Why a hearse? Because the creator, Steven Frye, is also the founder of the Nightmare Cruisers Hearse Club for car enthusiasts. The club boasts more than 120 members, mostly from around Michigan, though some join from across the country. "We like to get together and do the cruises," Frey said. "When we do these cruises, we like to hang out with our friends, old friends and new friends. Anyone that has a hearse is welcome to join us, even if you are just a hearse enthusiast." Frey first bought his hearse to promote a product, "Dr. Frybrain's Pumpkin Embalmer," though most people thought it was just a name for his hearse, rather than an actual product. After a couple of years of explaining the product on the car, Frey grew tired of answering questions and instead just painted over the advertising. For a time, the club also held the record for most hearses assembled in a parade in 2011. Frey said the rule for any gathering of cars is that is has to be a parade; otherwise, the record would be held by the manufacturer. "We held the record for about 11 months," he said. "Then a group in the Netherlands broke the record. Almost all of them were 'in the business,' though. Only three of our hearses were owned by funeral homes.

I've seen other casket grills, and none of them even compare. This one looks like it came direct from the factory. No other casket grill has a built in cooler, or on-board tunes! They normally only cook for club members, but you can generally get a casket-grilled hot dog for a donation to charity! Well done!

Pros: -LOTS of activities for little kids -Great security at all times thanks to LPD and their mobile command center -Tons of parking, thought it fills up -Local groups have fundraisers with discounted wristbands that are easy to find -Lots of food options, including stands run by local nonprofit organizations -The ice arena is open with a vending machine and bathrooms. And it's air conditioned -Handicap parking available Cons: - Free parking fills up fast -Gets a bit chaotic in the evenings when the older crowds come in -Craft show is more like a vendor show and out of the way -Some of the workers did not have appropriate sun coverage in the heat and we felt so bad they weren't provided that. -General fair overpriced everything. It was nearly 100 degrees when we went, so we brought an entire backpack of frozen water bottles as well as all the sun gear. Probably due to the heat, there were no lines and our kids were happy to zoom around keeping cool and riding everything they could. There are a bunch of toddler and kid rides which was just what we wanted. One adult wristband was enough to go on a few additional rides with our 5 year old. We brought lunch and ate at covered picnic tables. It was hot, and as adults we were sort of miserable trudging all over the blacktop, but our kids had so much fun and 6 months later, are still talking about it.

Here's how it works: 1. A group of volunteers organize the event and prepare the soups, salads, and dessert/s using local and seasonal ingredients. 2. Prospective micro-grant funding recipients send in their project proposals; if selected they will present their project at the soup dinner and explain how the funding will go to support their noteworthy cause. 3. Attendees of Detroit Soup pay $5 (at the door) to attend. 4. The money collected goes towards one of the projects presented. 5. Attendees and volunteers, alike, vote on which project they want the micro-funding to go towards. Besides being a great collaborative effort for the community, Detroit Soup is an awesome event because it seems so underground. Love it!!! Walking up the dark mysterious staircase to the Bakery Loft (where the soup is held) you're immediately surprised by the warm cozy dimly lit space. Candles adorn each table, bright florescent decorations hang from the ceiling, chatter fills the air, and the smells of slow cooked soups soon take hold. As for the seating situation, it fills up quickly as there are only 5 tables with chairs and another 10 tables with floor seating. Feel free to bring a pillow along for the floor seating...believe me you'll need it! Onto the food: at the last soup we were served two mixed green salads with a balsamic based dressing and the other with a kiwi lime dressing. Both were very good! The two soups (1.lentil and 2.fava bean) on the other hand, were a bit underwhelming. Not to say they weren't good, but they were just okay...a three star rating in my book of soups. Overall, Detroit Soup's mission/purpose, location, food, people (volunteers, presenters, attendees) is fantastic!

Me and a party of 7 came here for their Haunted House and Nightmare Fields last Friday. It was a…read moreblast! This review is about the attractions after 7pm (daytime events are a pumpkin patch, regular hayride, etc. and end at 6p)! I called ahead of time to get the vibe of the place because I was coming with a larger group. Linda was nice on the phone and she said she had been running the place for 39 years! It was well decorated and there spooky decorations throughout the space. Tickets are easy to purchase and you can use cash or credit. A lady at the gift shop told us they were cash only and didn't have an ATM at the beginning and we had no idea what to do. We went outside and asked someone else and they told us that wasn't true. I would recommend having all your staff on the same page so as not to scare your customers! I guess it contributed to the spooky part of the evening! Pricing is as follows- Haunted House- $15 Nightmare Fields Hayride- $15 Together- $25 Nightmare Fields: The suspense of the hayride is probably the scariest part. All the actors are high schoolers and a lot of them were just there for a good time. Every actor hopped onto the ride and tried to scare us, including a guy with a chainsaw who was just whacking at our feet for 5 minutes. We ended up riding with 3 elementary-aged kids who had just gotten off and I think they were entertaining us more than the actors themselves. They were delighted by the actors' company on the hayride and were striking up conversations, playing rock paper scissors, and waving at them. Hopefully that gives you a good idea of the scare factor! My group got lucky enough to have the ride breakdown at the end and see sparks flying from the tractor. We think the driver signaled the actors to come back because the chainsaw guy came and chased us all off the ride as we sprinted back to the entrance. If not for that, I would've been disappointed in the ride because it's really not that scary, but we all said the gas incident elevated the experience. I wish they would make that part of the rides in the future. But, having people run through an uneven field in the dark while being chased by a chainsaw isn't the most kid-friendly or safe thing. Haunted House: They send you in in groups of 4 due to it being a tight space and announce your arrival to the actors in the house, so our group got split in half. You walk through 3 different storage containers that are connected and have to go through doors that aren't super obvious, so part of the fun is the confusion of where to go next. While my eyes were squinted the entire time in fear, I can say that it was lit well enough that you can see your feet and won't trip. The entirety of the house lasted all of 2 minutes though, which was slightly disappointing and also relieving because we were being chased. But, if you're looking for a longer house, this isn't it. Definitely a lot different than Eloise Asylum (see my previous event review), but still a lot of fun! There is a swingset near the bonfire that they have lit on Fri-Sun evenings. This is a great place for people to wait and hang out if they don't want to do anything spooky and just chill. The bonfire chairs were full so we hung out at the swingset after we got cider and donuts. We were all taking turns swinging when one of the staff came over and rudely told us to get off, saying it was only for kids. We got off, but would recommend it's marked as kids ages x and under to avoid a potentially confrontational situation. This place is great for families and people who like just enough scare. I like that it's not as commercialized as the other haunted attractions, but the tradeoff is that it's smaller and there's not as much to do. It wasn't packed at all and we didn't have to wait in any lines or struggle for parking spots. The lot is roped off in the grass area at the entrance, but still clearly marked. There is no one directing, so you just park wherever you want at at your own risk. It was poorly lit, so be careful when you come and leave for uneven ground and people! All in all, a great way to spend a fall night!
