I found myself being a part of Doors Open Buffalo, an event I never even knew exhisted through Explore Buffalo. My mom always wanted to tour city hall and check out the view of our lovely city. After seeing the event, I knew it was something I had to do in her honor and memory...so onward I went and was greatful that I did. Never realized the history, art-deco and how beautiful our city hall was until this past weekend. It only took a short three year to be built, which was amazing from 1929-1932. During the event was able to check out the lobby, 13th floor, and observation deck. The flights of stairs were a little bit much, all security and covid precautions were followed with masking wearing, 4 in elevator and security check point. An amazing place that I was pleased to check out after living here my whole life 38 years, beautiful view and great experience.

I saw there were free tours of this art deco style building. Loved hearing about the history of Buffalo and inspirations for this architecture. Tour guide was very good about answering questions to the best of his ability. It was raining outside so it was nice to be inside. The tour is mostly accessible for everyone but I don't believe there is an elevator to the observation deck and the paths outside would be too small for any type of wheeled mobility aid, just something to consider. Also there are only public restrooms in the basement, suggest making a stop before going on the tour. We found parking on the south west side of the building.

When I was dining at Five Points Bakery, I asked the cashier for any recommendations on what to see in Buffalo and she suggested the Buffalo City Hall public tour. Parking near the City Hall was hard to come by and I finally found a 2-hour parking meter after driving about 3~4 blocks for 15 minutes. The public tour is free (donations accepted) and starts at noon on Monday to Friday. The meeting point is inside the City Hall's info booth located on the 1st floor. You will have to go through the security check in order to get into the building. This is a 32-story tall building with many colorful murals on the 1st floor and the observation deck on the 28th floor. During the tour, our guide talked about the history of Buffalo, saw different murals on the 1st floor, went up to the 13th floor to see the ceiling of the Common Council Chambers, took elevator to the 25th floor and walked up few flights of stairs to the Observation Deck. Up here you get to see 360° aerial view of downtown Buffalo and there's an eight-foot-high protective glass wall that goes around the Observation Deck in order to protect visitors from falling. The tour ultimately lasted about 1 hour and I was able to get back to my car within the 2-hour limit. Canalside and the City Hall tour are two of the Buffalo attractions that you should visit while you are in the city.

View from the observation deck (take the elevator to the top floor, then take a few flights of stairs to access).

One of the architectural gems of Buffalo, this art-deco designed building is a must-see. I think back to 2007, when the Buffalo Bills were playing the Dallad Cowboys on Monday Night Football. After a commercial break, then commentator John Madden was in utter disbelief of how big Buffalo's City Hall was as ESPN showed overhead views. In 2019, this building serves as a great reminder of Buffalo's past greatness. The Observation Deck on the top floor (I believe the 28th floor) offers stunning 360 degree views of the city and surrounding region. On clear days, you can easily see the city of Niagara Falls, Ontario and beyond. You do not have to be on a guided tour to get to the observation deck and it is free of charge. Simply visit during City Hall operating hours and you'll be able to go right up, via elevator. You will have to go through a brief security check and metal detector as soon as you enter City Hall. Once you get reach the top floor via elevator, you will have to take a few half-flights of stairs to reach the observation deck. I am not sure if it accessible by wheelchair, so call ahead if you are wondering about that! This place has become a staple to take those visiting from out-of-town to; the views are always a hit. Who knows, the honorable Mayor Byron Brown might even stop in the elevator on your way up (that did actually happen once). Between the architecture, interior design and views from the top, this is a can't miss in downtown Buffalo.

Shi**y Hall is named as such because many of the politicians contained within, treat the general population of WNY in a very shi**y way, and unfortunately there seems to be a resigned feeling of inevitability to the corruption and mismanagement among many. But this is not a review of that. It's a review of the building itself. It's easily one of the most beautiful City Halls I've ever seen. It looks like a worn out, grand, old, tired, beautiful armchair, overlooking the city, with the spokes of the wheel (the various roads going out in different directions across WNY) potruding to the East and North from it. Right behind it is the lake. It's been many years since I've been up inside, but the view is absolutely stunning and unmissable, so make sure you check it out. But even from the street below, for example if you get finished dining at Taki's and then come out and just crane your neck and stare up at it... it towers over Buffalo and gives you a warm feeling (actually a cold feeling most of the year but hey). Probably my 2nd favourite building in Buffalo, or maybe my 3rd. Every City Hall should look as magnificent as this. Driving by on the 190, it's the clear highlight of downtown, and you can see it in all its grandeur from Canada, across the river, and as far south as Angola and Dunkirk (on a clear day) and as far north as Niagara Falls (on a clear day eh). If Buffalo does not get its act together politically though, then perhaps we shall rename it Pity Hall.

A City Hall that incorporates motives from Native American tribes in Art Deco style. Great views from free observation deck. What it makes it beautiful is people working in it (who went out of their way to open a chamber with amazing skylight for a group of interested people). What makes it beautiful is laugh and happiness of two young women who just got married there. What makes it beautiful is its peaceful message to Canadians (entrance mural) and its tribute to the Native American tribes who lived there before. Pictures will tell the rest.

Most of the visitors I saw at City Hall seemed to be disgruntled locals paying fines or tax bills. I was one of the few folks with a smile on my face because my commitment here wasn't financial. I was just a humble tourist checking out one of the great Art Deco civic buildings of the 20th century. This monumental 1931 structure appears like a Meso-American pyramidal complex and it hugs Niagara Square (with McKinley Monument at its center). It was designed by John Wade. (Eliel Saarinen came in at second place at the design competition. He and his son later designed the acoustically superb Kleinhan's Music Hall.) City Hall, at over 560,000 square feet, expresses the supreme optimism and confidence of the city at this time. A grand granite, sandstone, and limestone exterior with Native American motifs leads to an interior whose lobby is adorned with stunning mythological murals and colorful sculptural details. This space is a treasure. The drama is topped by the 13th floor council chamber. Walking into the semi-circular amphitheater reveals an incredible stained glass ceiling: a glorious representation of the sky. This colossus preceded the more minimalistic style of architecture that followed so it's loaded with more details than can be mentioned in a simple review here. I took the additional time to visit the observation deck. This city sat essentially moribund for decades but changes are finally arriving and the skyline is showing signs of growth. It's an interesting time to visit Buffalo as a tourist.

The most beautiful and impressive city hall I have ever seen. The observation deck on 28th floor is a must visit!

As a recent transplant to Buffalo, I've been making a point of familiarizing myself with some of the Nickel City's more prominent landmarks, so I recently paid a visit to City Hall. Apparently, this building is among the largest and most impressive City Halls in the US. Completed in 1931, it's one of the largest and tallest municipal buildings in the United States and is also one of the tallest buildings in Western New York. Tip: At lunchtime during the week, a free tour of City Hall is offered. I took the tour, and it's both interesting and informative. We were taken through the elaborately impressive art-deco halls, and ultimately up to the observation tower. There we were treated to a truly gorgeous, panoramic view of this truly beautiful city. On a clear day, you can see the mists of Niagara Falls from the tower, even though the Falls are over twenty miles away!

I was on a layover in Buffalo, New York and decided to walk around the city to get my 10,000 Fitbit steps! I love historical architectures, so when I saw this art deco building. I made it a mission to check it out. Glad I did! This building has been here since 1931 and is the second tallest building in Buffalo. When a building is this tall, I knew there has to be an observations deck, so I went inside to explore. The artwork that makes up the building is very informative and includes a tale of the history of Buffalo as a city. The Art Deco design also includes Native American highlights. During business hours on weekdays take the elevators to the 25th floor and, eventually, stairs to the 28th floor leading to the observations deck. The observation deck on the top floor is awesome and gave me an excellent 360-degree view of the whole city. You can see the west village, Lake Erie and Niagara Square from up there. I took some snap chat pictures that were worthy of Instagram. Unlike other tall buildings in other countries or cities in America, it is free to go up there!

A view of the waterfront from the observation deck at City Hall. Visit yourself to check out more beautiful views of the city!

When you walk around inside the terminal, more likely than not the sights and the feel of this place will start your mind wondering about what happened here when this place shut down... Come to think of it, this building seems just about haunted enough for that to be true. And if it were the Petal Terminal, well then it'd be a harmless Flower Market. Then again perhaps a Flower Market is a synonym for something gruesome. Hmm. Let me think on that one. I recently represented Yelp here at a booth, and that was really cool, to hang out inside it for a whole day. They really, really need some better Air Conditioning though! Lol. I guess the 1920s was pre-global-warming or something. I've been here many times. I've taken a self-guided tour (which I wasn't supposed to), I've taken an actual tour (which was free, because I know someone who knows someone), and I've even done a photo shoot here (for my first CD). I used to live about 10 minutes walk from this place. It hasn't changed much in all the time since I first saw it. Very run down. And yet it's so haunting and perfect that I love it. This is one of the most instantly recognizable buildings in the beautiful and remarkable old skyline of Buffalo. It towers above the East Side with its broken windows, it's massive haunting dark open shaft (minds out of the gutter), and its glowing clock faces. There have been concerts here, as well as ghost tours, but it remains largely in disrepair. Everyone and their mother is hoping that it never gets demolished, and is eventually restored. The sad thing is that once upon a time it was a truly great place, bustling and full of passengers heading to the other Central Terminal... Grand Central in NYC. The pictures of this place full of well-to-do Upstate New Yorkers getting on and off trains is very depressing. America has changed so much and not always for the better. It's one of my favourite places in Buffalo, and was featured in the booklet of my first CD for good reason. Let's make sure it never gets knocked down. In other news, my cat Harley just pooped all over my carpet. Scuse me while I kiss this guy. I mean clean the poop. Same thing really.

Since the last time I reviewed this (18 months ago), this has basically been where I have spent the vast majority of my time. My gym is here, and I'm literally there from 3-5 hours every day of the week (can you tell). My tanning salon is close by (once a week, hi boys). I frequent several grocery stores in this area. I eat at Woo Chon Korea House at least once a week for their Yuk Gae Jang lunch special ($10) which is now by far the best Korean dish in the region since Seoul Garden closed down. I also hit up the amazing homestyle Chinese stuff at China King (Maple & N Forest) on a weekly basis. I ate a zillion times at Pita Gourmet, too, before I started grilling my own Chicken after finding out they don't give their tips to their employees (and I know other places around here that don't, either). Also I played soccer here once a week for years before I realized it was only causing me pain from exacerbated injuries, and making workouts harder. Barbie wants my body to be like the Atlas Mountains, and when my hamstrings and ankles and knees and groins are throbbing with pain, it's hard to work on that for her - and I'll do anything for her. She's been to W-Ville too... she waited at Starbucks while I was seeing my original WNY romantic partner (that I moved here for) at her work. The DiBella's here is pretty good. The Paneras are both iffy. There are some pretty nasty attitudes around here. Sweet Jenny's has great ice cream at both locations. There's a stunning waterfall here (and I don't mean Barbie). Anyway William just died so I need to go and see what he left me at the official reading of William's Will. My original review: If this were named Ricky Williamsville, everyone would be high on cannabis (rather than painkillers and anti-depressants). Thankfully it's not, it's merely Williamsville, which is more affiliated with the Patriots than Williams' Dolphins or indeed the Bills. You'll find out why later. I really love little Williamsville, it's adorable. It's like a smaller, friendlier, more manageable version of Amherst. Technically it IS Amherst, but whatever. Yes, it's a bit expensive and yes it's a bit fancy, but if you want to live in a suburban, fancy, friendly, safe, decent-smelling area, and not be too far from the city, W-Ville is where it's at. Plus Rob Gronkowski is from here. Don't tell me that you don't secretly get off on the fact that he is from here every time he scores yet another touchdown to destroy the dreams of Buffalonians just a little bit more. OK maybe not, but anyway. If I wanted to live closer to Buffalo (I live in the countryside now), this is where I'd probably live. It has everything a little cute American town should have... a lovely main street... lots of nice food options... good shopping options... friendly people... sometimes... plenty of greenery... and lots of people on painkillers and anti-depressants. There's plenty of nice noms here too, like Spices Of India (best Indian lunch buffet and amazing Garlic Naan), and Sweet Jenny's amazing Ice Cream, and of course Rachel's Lebanese is excellent too. Some excellent Buffalo-style pizza (Mattina's), and some nice back-road routes to avoid traffic (because Main Street through W-Ville is a nightmare). Nearby Marco's (Maple location only) has the best sandwich in WNY (the Sinatra... trust me, try it. One of the best in the country), and China King & Wok n Roll both have some excellent authentic Chinese dishes as well as the usual americanized stuff. The former is cheaper. The latter has bubble tea on weekends. Anderson's has its best location right in Wville, try the Beef On Weck, the Chicken Tender sandwich, and the custard. There's a Ted's on Transit (get the Polish) and La Divina has a location there now too (amazing tacos). Pita Gourmet, also, is nearby, as is The Pita Place for more Lebanese stuff. So lots of delicious options for you. And if the Bills won't satisfy you, maybe the Williamswill.

I spent a little bit a time in the village of Williamsville last week. I was there for a specific…read morepurpose, but my car was parked and I took a moment to just walk Main street. All the little shops are trying to be open, they all have hours clearly posted on the doors; they all have masks signs posted and are doing their best. Williamsville has created a few public parking places which is a really smart idea because it gets people into the area and it makes it easy for them to stay. The streets and the lights are all nicely managed and maintained, making for easy driving and walking experience both. Update 105 2021
