We live in the South Highlands Neighborhood. The Citrus County Shetiffs Office, Department located in Inverness. The men & woman who work for this Sheriff's office are dirty as the day is long. We have had several instances of local kids (who have family in the department) come by and break into our cars, our shed and the Sargent state they won't do anything about it because who the kids are related to someone in dispatch. Even with clear video showing the kids faces and them calling each others real names.. the officers state they won't do anything, won't investigate the breaking. read more

I've lived here for a short time. Nothing but kind officers. I also saw the video that happened in your county in regards to the RO from Polk county. I wanted to thank you for trying to do everything you can to take that guy off the street. I was raped at age 17 and I support anything that helps the police with their work load. Since police departments all over the country is majorly short handed. I wish everyone can understand the good intentions in people who truly do this for the police. I had recently called the police to report being physically assaulted by my own mother while being kicked out. I had made my call while crying, my girlfriend had been there and witnessed the entire incident as well and helped me explain what was happening to the operator. When the officer arrived he spoke to my parents first (I was not present so I'm not sure he was even made aware that I had been the one who called) and when he eventually got around to speaking to me the first thing he asked was why I have not already moved out. As a 19 year old I was blown away by the disrespect and lack of empathy at this moment, especially given I was already having a mental breakdown that was recorded during my phone call. I informed him of the assault and he brushed it off because we had only begun recording after the fact, and he didn't want to see any other footage. The officer left before I finished packing without even checking to see if my girlfriend and I were okay. I would like to credit the operator for doing a fantastic job but I have never felt so humiliated, embarrassed and helpless until I had the unpleasant experience of interacting with this specific officer. Again, he did not check my well-being at any point when anyone with surface-level common sense could have inferred my call was a distress call. I have attached an image of the card he left for my parents below. I, the person who was assaulted and made the call, did not receive a card. The first grade handwriting doesn't come as a surprise either, there seems to be a theme with Citrus County officers not even being able to read picture books. Edit: I would like to include I was not officially "kicked out" until he had arrived. I was not refusing to leave, I had actually been trying to leave. I was not even asked to leave until after he arrived, which was in the midst of me already packing my bags. How a trained officer manages to make a situation worse is beyond me. I did not ask for a name or badge number because he spent most of his time talking to my parents (who had assaulted me and been the reason I called the police) about how he remembers when he left home at my age too. I have been verbally and physically abused my entire life and for you to compare your situation to mine when I am having a clear mental breakdown is completely and utterly disgusting! With this aside, the only ID I can provide of the officer is that he was an bald African American male with below average intelligence. read more
