This location is NOT handicap accessible as far as I can tell. Could be because I arrived mid-show but there was not much staff or direction or interaction. I paid my entry fee with nary a word and enjoyed a very weird, but intriguing show of experimental electronic sound. Their sound system is impressive! Very 8D, I could really feel the movement of the sound and despite being remarkably off-putting, it was also visceral and intriguing. Parking in the area is a little weird and unreliable.

Halcyons casts, crew, and productions are as beautiful and diverse as the Chicago. Halcyon Theatre was formed in 2006 to connect people, transform our borders and ascend toward a more just union. Halcyons mission is "to be fiercely committed to making the stage as diverse as the city of Chicago--presenting new voices from inadequately represented communities and recasting classic works to showcase their contemporary relevance". Halcyon believes that no artist can fully represent a community; however, a community of artists can. Halcyon works continuously to connect artists and organizations from across all of our communities to accomplish their mission. I have seen Halcyon continue to grow over the past four years and respect that they have not lost site of their mission. Halcyon has a radical hospitality program -- which means that a portion of tickets for each performance are set aside for FREE first come first serve seating. For many a $20 ticket is a huge barrier to entry and Halcyon has made sure that anyone who wants to come and experience theatre can and is welcome to do so. Halcyon Theatre has their own space on the third floor of Christ Lutheran Church (Wilson and Spaulding) in Albany Park. Two blocks west of Kedzie Ave and two blocks north of Montrose Ave. For performances, use the side entrance on Spaulding Ave. Theatre is one block south of the Kedzie Ave. brown line station (exit at the Spaulding Avenue side.) While it can be argued at all visual art is intended to convey meaning, it is especially true of text art. All too often however, the art consists solely of the text itself. In this exhibition, each of the works communicates on multiple levels; the 5 featured artists incorporate text into their works, but as a supplement - adding additional layers of meaning.

It was moved to 16th street (from…read more18th street), and turned from an expression of culture and the Pilsen neighborhood to just another fest selling things. It was much smaller than previous years with less food choices and fewer authentic vendors and had bad music, at least during the daytime when I went. I usually stay to hear the musical lineups but this was so boring I stayed long enough for the kids to get tacos and look at the 3 shops that were there. They even had some band singing sweet dreams singing the wrong words! I hope the fest will go back the way it was then I'd return. If not I'd say skip it.
