Well.. again, I really hate giving low reviews, but people need to know what they're getting into. 1) Actual location. I think they're in the midst of renovation, so once the final product is out for delivery, I'll update this review. Until then, this place is sketchballs. It's basically a trailer. Literally. There's a ramp that goes up to this steel box. I'm not sure how comfortable I'll ever be leaving a deposit with this particular branch - I can already picture some guy coming to this place in the dark of the night with one of those fire torches and easily melting a hole into the place. Yupp. Not leaving my money here. 2) Citizens service in general, for me at least, has been really bad. I only use them because my family used them and I've always found it hard for me to close a bank account. Note, they do have an ATM here, which is great when you just need some quick cash or need to make a small deposit (small, because it'll probably be stolen) without wanting to have any human interaction whatsoever. They also have a very small and limited parking space in the back, but I would deter you from going if you have trouble parking or aren't the best driver - it's like playing bumper cars out there. read more

Would give a zero star review if I could. Cash was deposited into a closed account in my name by mistake. The teller told me it was on credit only hold and couldn't give me my money back. She called the corporate office and said it could take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours to unlock the account I told her I had to get to work and asked her to call me when it had cleared. She agreed. I got a call 10 minutes later when I got to work telling me that the account has been unlocked and I was all set. I drove back to the bank, a different teller said that he couldn't pull out the funds and called the corporate office again and spoke with three different departments. At the conclusion, I was told there was nothing He could do. I spoke with the assistant branch manager and asked if she could approve the funds withdrawn since it was my money deposited with cash and there was no question about the validity. She told me that only the branch manager could do that and he wasn't there. I asked when he would be in and she said "maybe tomorrow but he's been calling in sick a lot lately She then said that since it was a closed account they have to issue a check in it could take up to 15 business days. Absolutely the worst customer service I could ever experience. They are basically holding my $2200 ransom and everyone seems to point the finger at someone else. They used to be such a good bank, not anymore. WORST BANK EVER. STAY AWAY FROM CITIZENS BANK!!!!!! read more

On October 9th, my wife had her wallet stolen from her purse while at a Panera in Dorchester. She canceled her credit cards as soon as she returned home that evening, but the person who stole her wallet had already made several purchases. My wife thought that she might also have been carrying a blank check in her wallet. Worried about the potential for fraud, we went to our local Citizens Bank (716 Main Street in Waltham, MA) on the morning of October 10th to open a new checking account. At the bank we were helped by a young man who we will call "A". We told A about my wife's wallet being stolen and that we wanted to open a new checking account to protect against fraud. I had also been wanting to open a savings account as a place to separately store the part of my salary that I will have to pay in Social Security (this is not automatically reduced from my paycheck as a clergyperson) so we asked him to open up a new savings account for us, while he was at it. The whole transaction was going smoothly. Then, A asked us a straightforward and seemingly innocuous question: "Would you like to open up a credit card through Citizens Bank today?" Both my wife and I verbally responded with equally straightforward answers: "No, we don't need any new credit cards; we are more than happy with the ones we already have." A then asked if he could send us a credit card offer. "If you don't want the card, you can shred it and not worry about it." We get credit card offers in the mail all the time so we agreed. A then proceeded to put documents in front of us for us to sign to open our new accounts. After we signed these physical documents, he asked Sarah and I to sign our names on an electronic pad. We signed where we were told to. He then told us we were just about done and that he just had to go get some printouts for us. At this point I was running late for a meeting so I left and my wife stayed behind to collect the documents. I walked out of the bank generally content with the service A had provided in opening our new savings and checking accounts. Then, on the week of October 14th (I'm not exactly sure of the date), I received a credit card from Citizens Bank in the mail. Assuming it was just the credit card offer A said he would be sending, I shredded it just as he had instructed. I threw the enclosed papers into the recycle bin without reading them because I was simply not interested in opening another credit card. Needless to say, I was quite surprised when, on the week of October 21st, I received the first statement for my new Citizens Bank credit card. What's more, it was a credit card with a $12,000 limit! Even more surprised was my wife when, on October 29th, she received the first statement for her new Citizens Bank credit card, a card that she had never even received. So, it would seem that A either opened these cards without our permission or intentionally deceived my wife and I to open them. His actions were unethical, if not out and out fraudulent. Although I have been told by the Office of the Chairman that the bank will not comment on internal processes, my hope is they will handle this complaint with a sufficient level of transparency as to assure myself and other consumers that they take it seriously and are committed to providing ethical service to their customers. read more

Well I am with the couple other reviewers I read on here and hate to complain or write a bad review when its seems to be the higher up management who is the problem. The tellers have been very kind and nice! I too experienced a distracted person who signed me up and although very pleasant I was bombarded with tons of fees I was not explained and after fixing all the problems, now am having the same issues with fees from being in the hospital and they will not reimburse me nor has the branch manager contacted me back after a week has gone by. Customer service is a lost art and people rely too much on just going through the motions to earn their checks and go home.... please be aware that customers carry your business. Its a shame I am having to write this but on top of it all even after calling the customer service hotline, they were unwilling to make any changes although I was in the hospital and unable to do anything about it all...... really disappointing and will not continue to bank here. read more

oh citizens bank how i cant stand you. 2 stars and thats just cause you got all my money, if i gave you one, there might be an "accident" so what can i say, if you have a bank account in Boston you are paying for it?!? wtf? now correct me if im wrong, doesnt the bank make money from me putting money in them? they take my life savings, protect what they need to (RRR) and then loan out the rest at some ridiculous interest rate, hence profits. so why am i paying fees for this place? bank of america is 10 times worse and when we married i forced consolidation into citizens. so just recently i ran out of checks, they cost 22 bucks for new ones. great! also the last time i was in there (when i moved) i asked them to update my address and send new checks. well no new checks and im still getting my statements forwarded to me from an old address, two weeks later. so i send wifey on her day off into the bank to update the address and get me some new checks. well she brought in an old check of mine, they didnt ask for any ID and changed my address and issued new checks. i see three illegal moves here, but thats not what this is about...ok, that is what this is about. i gave up thinking about this and have started to research ING direct, high rates, no hassles.... read more

I keep escalating matters and nothing gets done. They keep trying to sell me new business as opposed to fixing the issues. I keep getting charged fees that I am not supposed to be charged. Online bill pay is a nice option. read more

I want to start off by saying I've been a customer of citizen's bank my whole adult life so far. I recently moved to a rural area that has many citizen's ATM's but they for some odd reason don't have the ability to deposit money only withdraw. There are no actual banks or even grocery store fronts. The closest actual bank is nearly an hour away. In my whole time using Citizen's I've been rebated for an overdraft fee maybe 3 times. This particular time, I had a check bounce...yet I had the money in the account. I saw that I was charged $35 for the bounced check. I purchased $19.99 of dog food at petsmart. Then noticed the $300 for the check was taken out of my account. During this time it seemed as if the account kept being edited. I don't have overdraft protection. I should not be able to make purchases if my account doesn't have the money in it. Over the course of 15 days another several overdraft fees where charged to my account. The final tally is 169.99+19.99 for the petsmart purchase. I've called citizen's and explained the situation. They referred me to the collection dept. The best they could do was to reduce the fee total by 20%. Or I could try to talk to an actual banker in person. I chose to bite the bullet and take 3 buses and the commuter rail 60 miles to my nearest branch. Too much time passed they said so there was nothing that could be done. I called again and was once again referred to the collections department. At this point it's been a month. I am a single mother of two. I do not have Nearly $200 to give to this institution. I feel swindled and helpless. Like I'm one small person who cannot stand up to this corporate giant I'd been loyal to for almost 15 years. They present themselves as a bank for the people, for families, but nothing could bu further from the truth. read more

I hate to write a poor review because the tellers at this branch are wonderful - and they deserve five stars. But that is the only aspect that deserves accolades. We opened a new account this summer and it has been one disaster after another since then. The woman who opened our account was so distracted and talking about other topics that most of the account was incorrect and most things were not explained to us or discussed. After a month and a half of getting her mistakes corrected, they announce the branch is moving on the last weekend of August to the new location next door. That was the last communication Citizens had with its customers. The branch did not move that weekend, the temporary location was closed, the new one wasn't open, and customers had no bank to use - without any warning or signage. Now the new branch is open, and all three ATMs are not working. I switched to Citizens from a local bank and regret every bit of this move. This has been a horrible experience from day one. read more

I've never written an online review before, and I can only speak to my personal experience with this branch over the past five or so years ... but that being said, I've been completely satisfied with them throughout that duration of time which included a decent quantity and diversity of visits, calls, and situations for me to base this review on. We didn't have our first slip-up in our relationship until four years into it, which only made me more confident in our relationship - due to the fact that this was a.) the first thing that had gone even slightly amiss in almost five years / hundreds interactions b.) a minor hiccup of an issue that they worked out immediately, perfectly, and even after they locked their doors at the end of the night c.) a normal thing to expect in any human/business relationship, and an experience that increased my confidence in them that if anything ever went wrong, they'd actually be there for you in the ways they have agreed to be. A bank is a business, and the banking industry is a brutal as they get - so if you want to complain about things that all banks essentially have in common, fine. However, if you want to work with a bank in the area - I would honestly recommend this particular one for not only the professional aspect that I have already spoken about, but also for the social perk that - if you do delight in human contact - all of the employees there (of which I have casually met / worked with many) seem to be good workers + great people - I enjoy my trips into the bank to see them - wishing you all well & thank you for those of you who work there and may someday come across this review :) read more
