Thank goodness I don't bank at Citi...you may ask 'how can you provide a review then??' Well, let me tell you how I've been introduced to the inefficient, poor customer service here. A parent (unfortunately) banks at Citi so I've been roped into dealing with this sorry excuse for a bank. You have to make an appointment for almost any transaction. When you make an appointment you may have to wait anyway. They tell you they will call to follow up and never do. They have limited staff so be prepared to wait. Perhaps I am spoiled because I bank at another institution and I can easily walk in and accomplish what I need to do with friendly, courteous service. Citi is in general incompetent when it comes to timely client communications. Received block notice alleging checking/savings (non-credit card) inactivity for 24 months in October 2023 for an account established in June 2021. 24 months would have been in June 2023, not October. Citi clearly doesn't know how to tell time (red flag for anyone considering their dishonest banking services). Sir/Ma'am: Where does it even say in the terms and conditions/customer agreement about account block "inactivity"? Most banks don't do that and are very understanding of their various customers needs, so I'm not recommending Citi to family, friends, or anyone with common sense just like the other 1-star reviewing customers. read more

I've had a great experience opening a business checking account with the help of Roxana. She explained the difference between various accounts, helped me understand and take advantage of beneficial banking opportunities, and was very knowledgeable. It was also refreshing to see how so many other frequent customers had come in and spoken to her and her pleasant attitude towards them and me. read more

It's been more than 20 years now that I've been a Citibank customer, and most of my complaints with them are issues with corporate policy, but this bank location has a few problems that are unique to this location. Starting with the positive sides: this is a outpost of a global financial institution, and as such, has the services you would expect to be available at a large institution. They mostly can handle fairly complex transactions and/or requirements *eventually*, but finding the right combination of people and offerings can be tortuous. The people at this branch don't appear to have more than marginal knowledge of what their employer can do, and anything complicated will require spending time with their global help desk to get the final say. They can do international banking, and wire services - at a price. On the negative side: do *not* even consider any of their added cost business services such as payroll. We tried their payroll service, which was ok while it was in-house, but has since passed through three outsourced providers of varying levels of competence, and it cost us almost a year of cleaning up issues with tax filings, penalties, and late payments to get everything back to normal. Access to back data from the various players is almost impossible to get, and expensive if you can get it at all. Another issue is that *everything* has fees attached for business accounts, even stuff with *incoming* transactions. Wire transfers have a substantial fee imposed, which makes it not very cost effective to use -- I mean, they can see that we have the money, just do it and don't charge a percentage to securely transfer cash to places. The nickel and dime thing is pervasive; sometimes the branch can override some of the fees, but they add up fast. The people do try to be helpful, but they can't do much about general policies. Their small business guy hates the sight of us because it invariably means that Citi has screwed something up and it's going to take a fair amount of work to sort it. Overall, they get a C for effort -- the people really do try, and it's the closest global bank office to us that can handle what we need to do, but if you need someone whose employees will work for you, this is probably not the place. read more

I was trying to earn a checking bonus with an online checking with Citi and called the overseas call center several times regarding some unusual charges on my checking acct. I then called the branch in Reston and after a day or so of calling, talked to the branch manager about an online checking account and the bonus I was trying to earn. The manager was polite and direct and emailed me quickly after I called to help me resolve my issue. I was having issues communicating with the overseas call center but did not find any fault with the branch customer service. He even followed up with me after I told him the bonus was in my checking. I wish I can give this branch a zero star! I woke up early and had my mind set to visit this branch. When I got to the bank, I entered and nobody had the courtesy of saying hello. One African American lady (banker) saw me standing and looking lost but she couldn't approach me to ask what I needed. She ignored my presence and kept on talking to the other bankers. I had to walk up to the teller and I told her I wanted to order a new debit card. She directed me to the next teller who happens to be a male. The male teller helped me ordering a new debit card however, the temporary card he gave me didn't work at the atm. I had to go back to my car to call their online customer service since that was what the atm machine stated. After speaking to a representative I was told to go back to the branch so they can link my account to the temporary card. I went back inside after spending 20 mins on phone with the dumb representative. I went back to the first teller I approached but she couldn't help cos she seemed to be a new employee who doesn't know much. She walked me to a banker and told her what I'm having problems with. The banker acted reluctant to help. No shade but her name is Roxana. She was like there's an alert on my account and I'd need to call the fraud department so they can link my card to my account. At this point I was already frustrated!!! Cos I'm pregnant!! First of all the male teller threw the card at the window with no single form of customer service or respect! I ignored that!! Secondly the banker could have easily dialed the fraud department's number since I explained a whole lot to her already. Well I told her to call them cos I'd tried severally and nobody seemed to get my point or resolve the issue. Roxana kept dialing the wrong number and I could see it in her face that she didn't wanna go further! I was getting really pissed at this point. Then she called the African American lady over and handed her my drivers license and the temporary debit card so she could help me! I was like nah!! I'm done!!!!! I took my cards from the Lady and walked out of the bank!! Lol and of course as expected she didn't call me back or acted concerned while I was walking out the door!! Seriously this bank is all shades of fuckery!!! As soon as I get my permanent card, I'll withdraw all my money and close the account cos what I experienced was really bad!! They attended to other customers (white) gently (the African American lady) but couldn't even provide the service a pregnant woman needed!! This bank branch manager is extremely rude, I tried cashing a Citi bank check there and apparently it was over there cashing limits, I asked to talk to the branch manager to go over there check cashing policy, when he arrived I explained my situation and asked to know the check cashing policy and he would not tell me I asked him several times when I asked him why he won't tell me their banks policy his reply back was " I don't have to tell you" take the Citi bank check your customer wrote you to your own bank and they'll handle it. I understand having the name of a bank manger and wearing your crappy suit and feeling like a big shot goes to your head sometimes but this guy must really feel like the ultimate bad a** banker lol in a months time I make this guys yearly salary and I sure don't act this way. This bank needs to close. I signed up for a new account and the process took hours and multiple visits. The first time I was told to come back another day even though I arrived half an hour before closing. Then they told me not to come back on Saturday because they were short on staff. After several months, I realized they never honored their cash promotion either so I called Citibank and they said they needed another month for their marketing department to review the account even though it was evident the account should have been credited. I left the bank and opened a new account with Ally online in just 5 minutes! FAST FORWARD TO TODAY... So here we are and now months have gone by since I wrote the above review... I had opened a 1 year CD at this bank at a 2.5% interest rate... I have come to discover that they closed my CD only 10 days prior to the maturity date without my authorization and only gave me 1.5% interest (after they penalized me for early withdrawal when they issued me a check which I received by mail). Now when I tell them my CD was closed without my authorization they tell me there is nothing they can do. Apparently when I called to tell them not to renew the CD, that representative instead took it upon herself to terminate the CD!!! I told them the call should be recorded so they can listen to it and see I never asked to close my CD. They are really UNETHICAL and there is NO ACCOUNTABILITY. The branch tells me to call customer service and customer service tells me to go to the branch. The phone supervisor told me I could file a "Presidential complaint" if I call back during business hours, which I did the next day only to find they would not let me speak with that department because it is closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So basically the bank just kept my money because they did not want to pay out the interest once the CD matured! I have never heard of such a thing happening anywhere. read more

Pay attention to what people say about this branch/bank. Customer service is indeed terrible. After dealing unsuccessfully with a teller and mid-level manager, I asked for the branch manager. I won't put his name or the details of the matter in this post because I don't want to get personal, but I was shocked at his poor attitude. My issue went on for a couple of weeks, after which I just gave up and found another way get things done without their help. You would expect an international bank of this stature to have employees in place with knowledge about basic banking procedures or even the desire to look things up in order to avoid errors, but alas, not at this location. Anytime I try to call the branch for help , it states there is no one able to take my call and it routes me to some headquarters which then transfers me back to the branch which then transfers me back to the headquarters. I definitely agree with all the other negative comments, this is by far the worst service I have ever received from any bank, I think instead of them investigating their customers they perhaps should start investigating their employees starting with Parnita Bhatia, who has clearly overstepped her boundaries during our interaction and second with THING that likes to call herself a Assistant branch manager who had the AUDACITY to tell me why I'm being hostile when I tried to question their rude behavior and crappy service. I haven't had the chance to talk to the branch manager Vincent frank yet to see how he would react or try to solve my issue. If I didn't have to put a start I wouldn't. Please, be careful with your mobile deposit save your emails. Also, verify and keep a screen shot of your deposit. This problem has happen to me twice. At first I thought I had done something wrong. But it happen again, I made my deposit on the 18th, mine you I have proof I wasn't taking chances. They held my deposit until the next day, cause one of my checks to be return, got charge a fee and they said is my fault. I have to prove I made it on the 18th not the 19th and that all fees stand. I asked them to look at the confirmations email sent out, he refuse. His name is Adam. They are holding deposits, the reason I am not sure. Getting more money from people that all ready live on a strict budget, I am not sure. But be careful check your deposits. My next step is BBB and FDIC. If you have any issues with them report them, get names and titles, they shouldn't be aloud to work, even against their own policy. read more
