The only real gripe I can come up with for the room was it was hard to find electrical outlets. There's not one in the bathroom, there's a couple in the hall that are a tight fit because of the shelf, and the rest are along the floor. To get to the one under the desk I had to crawl under the desk. A power outlet or two on the desk would be nice. There's not any room service, but there's a restaurant on site with limited hours. Even during these hours it seemed sometimes hard to find someone in the restaurant. There's so many great restaurants in the area. Check out Nargile and Paldino. Next time I'm in Aberdeen, I'll gladly stat here again.

Alright, so I might've lied about the simple tastes. Regardless, Hilton Garden Inn at Aberdeen City Centre was an excellent place to stay for my trip to the Granite City. Clean, nice staff, comfy bed. My room had a rain shower which was awesome and a HUGE bathtub which came in handy when escaping the mid-50 degree weather of July (who knew those words would ever leave my mouth, err, fingers...). The restaurant on site has a buffet breakfast every morning which is very fresh and tasty. The location is also close to the hustle of Union Street and not too terribly far from Union Square, which seems to be the transpo hub for northeast Scotland. For the money, there is not a better place to stay in Aberdeen City Centre.

For only about US $200 a night (average, April prices, booked through hotels.com) it was all ours for two nights. Full kitchen, living room, full bath, and two bedrooms. There was a washer/dryer combo unit in our kitchen, tea and coffee on the boil all day long downstairs, and free washing soap for the laundry. Continental breakfast in the mornings was somewhere between decent and decadent, depending on your view. I ordered gluten-free toast and got about four servings worth. Ordered tea and got a pot big enough for 2-4 people. Only complaint is the beds are quite small. If you are used to sharing a double bed with your spouse it might not be so bad, but when you are used to a King size bed, expect it to feel a little cramped.

Booking was easy online and 10 minutes later I was checked in. The staff at the front desk were extremely helpful and friendly and I was offered to wait in the lounge with a cup of tea whilst I waited for someone to carry my bags to my room. I didn't realise there are actually a whole bunch of apartments adjacent to each other, also some scattered across the road. I was staying towards the back of the apartments on the second level (no elevators) so the assistance was appreciated. The accommodation itself was more than enough for one person. The executive apartment featured a bedroom, bathroom, lounge room and small kitchen with everything you'd need to create a home cooked meal. Given the late hour and duration of my stay I don't think I got to truly appreciate the space available, but nonetheless was impressed. Bed was comfortable and the blackout curtains are effective. I've given one less star because the walls are thin, and as I was falling asleep I could hear people trudging up the stairs, getting into the room above mine and I fell asleep to the sound of their muffled conversation. Breakfast is included and is a decent spread. Ample space in the dining room too. Overall a good experience, just might ask for a top floor apartment next time.

Staff is very friendly and helpful (and very discreet). Hotel is placed not far from centrum (5-10minutes by car, 15-20 minutes by bus). There is a park around so calm and privacy are matter of course. And they have a private parking lot. Rooms are big and clean with comfortable beds, armchairs, wardrobes, tv, safe and bathroom. It´s very luxury (at least those better ones). There is one restaurant, bar and library where you can drink or eat too if you want. It´s also perfect for private meetings. And there are also two big rooms for wedding receptions. Conferences usually take place in a separate building which is also located in the area of hotel park. Local meals are like a balm for the soul. It´s delicious, it looks perfect and together with interiors it really feels royal. And it doesn´t matter if it´s breakfast, lunch, dinner or just dessert with coffee. I was a biggest friend with a bartenders, obviously. Very good choice of whiskey. And when you drink in an that awesome bar, sitting in an armchair, you really feel like a lord at some private club in 19th century.

The first room we got felt like a dorm room, very small, two twin beds, small desk, no closet. The heater was broken so they had two plug in heaters. Two minutes after plugging those in the room smelled like it was on fire. The maid decided to walk right in even with the do not disturb sign on the door. The next day they decided to call since the do not disturb sign was up. What part of do not disturb dont they understand. This is an oilfield town and this is an oilfield dormitory. If you come in expecting this you wont be surprised. At the very least the room was clean and the staff were friendly although not super helpful. Wifi was in and out the enter week. I paid $75USD for internet for the week only to get really slow internet that only worked 50% of the time.

It's old, tired and badly in need of renovation (although there does seem to be some movement in that direction, judging from the fact that several areas look like a building site). The carpets are worn, dusty and wrinkled. There are wires hanging out of the ceiling. The lift doesn't stop at the 3rd floor, I have to go one floor above and walk down. Oddly, friends on the 4th floor in the other half of the hotel have the same problem, except they have to get off at the 3rd floor and walk up one. The room is like a sauna. I have tried turning the control knob on the old-fashioned radiator to both extremes but it seems to make no difference. I can't even keep the window open because there are no sash cords to hold it up - I've wedged it open with a mug in a desperate bid to get some oxygen into the room. Which means that it's now really noisy and I'll have to wear ear plugs if I have any hope of sleeping. They actually PROVIDE ear plugs, that's how bad it is! There are no hanging places in the bathroom whatsoever. No towel rail, no loo roll holder, even the towel hook on the back of the door is broken. There isn't even a shelf to put toiletries on apart from the wall-mounted tissue box. There are screw holes for a shaving mirror, but no mirror. There is also a switched 13A socket for hairdryer in the bathroom, which is illegal under UK wiring regulations (to be fair, it does have an isolating switch outside the bathroom, but it still shouldn't be there). The bathroom extractor fan does not work. One of the (twin) sockets at the desk doesn't work. Oh yes, and there is no WiFi in my room, despite them giving me a code for it. (I don't actually mind that, I sleep better without WiFi.) If I had paid for this, if be demanding my money back. And if I thought they had another room, I'd ask to change. But it's Saturday night and they're full. Or so they claim. (Also I've taken all my clothes off as it's so damnably HOT!) Ah well, it's only one night. PS - Slept really badly. Hope I never return.
