Strathburn Hotel is smallish (around 30 rooms) and staying here for several days was a pleasure. It's locally owned, homey, comfortable, very clean and completely hospitable. "Apologies for the weather today...would you like an umbrella?" "Will you be joining us for dinner tonight?"
Upon arrival, the person behind the counter checked me in but wasn't completely confident about the WiFi because in her words "I don't usually work at the counter, I'm the chef." And I found out later her cuisine is amazing! For dinner I enjoyed flawless salmon with carrots and snap peas followed by the best homemade cheesecake. Later I was to learn that this is one of the most popular (read best) restaurants in Inverurie.
When I return to Scotland I will stay not in Aberdeen as a base, but rather in Inverurie. It's about 20km from the airport in Dyce and it's a perfect introduction and home base for explorations further out. (Inverness is about 90km away)
