Wow what a beauty of a building!!…read more I cannot emphasize enough how much you should go visit this place Specifically you should book the mystery tour held at 5pm which boasts a behind the scenes look at the Paris Opera House and its beautiful Grand Foyer(note- you may recognize the famous steps from Emily in Paris ) It's a group tour - but it's after hours so it's definitely limited people and less tourists then during the day and I loved it- The guides were great , you get an ear piece to listen to in multiple languages I would love to come back and see an actual show someday

I had wanted to see the opera house for about 15 years and did not have a chance-we were very happy with our experience! The opera house is located at Place de l'Opéra in the 9th arrondissement of Paris and the tour entrance is in the back side of the building. There are a variety of tours but we selected a guided tour so there could be allot of interaction and added information - it was well worth it! Tours are available from It is generally open from 10 am to 5 pm (last admission one hour before closing), though the auditorium may be closed unpredictably due to rehearsals. We were on a guided tour and they allowed us in during one of the rehearsals although we could not speak. Having visited many opera houses in the past including London, Vienna, Prague, etc. this one was very impressive. The Grand Staircase, museum, foyer, and addition displays are amazing. Well worth the visit!

We are traveling around Europe visiting the Christmas Markets. We were in Belgium and left on…read moreChristmas Day to see if we could get last minute tickets to the Nutcracker that night as the website is not friendly for foreigners trying to purchase tickets. Right when we arrived in Paris two of our party took an Uber to the hotel while my mother and I took the bus to the Bastille ticket office. It is not easy to find and there is a fence. We had to go around some stairs and the opening was hidden around the corner. We stood in line for 2 hours. People behind us were counting and we told them we were purchasing for the 4 of us. On the Bastille website you are allowed to purchase 2 tickets per person. They got upset when my father and brother came after bringing our luggage to the hotel. They started pushing my brother and me. They got very physical. When the two line attendance came to open the doors the older ladies started yelling and pushing our family. They made derogatory racist remarks about us and when we told the line attendants they need to call the police their comment was "That's not our job". If that isn't one of their jobs than I don't see why they get paid at all. We finally got to the ticket counter and the person behind the counter was going to give us four tickets until one of the line attendance spoke to them in French and we were then told we were only allowed to purchase 2. We were told if we wanted to purchase two more tickets they had to stand back in cue. They ended up selling the two tickets that we were going to receive to one of the ladies that was pushing us. After everyone else got their tickets they happened to fix two seats and we were finally allowed to pay for two more tickets right before the performance. We paid three to four times the amount we should have paid for the other two tickets. When we sat down in the two original seats we purchased, insult to injury the older lady and daughter who were racist and assaulting us were sitting right next to us. After the show we talked to one of the managers that was there after the show and we talked to him. He was apologetic and said that he would write an email to the parent company that takes care of the tickets corroborating our story as he heard about it from other staff members. It was Christmas Day and it was one of the worst Christmas' our family has ever had. When we went back the next day they said it was our fault again.

Folies Bergere 03/20/20…read more My first visit to Paris we had tickets to a show at Folies Bergère. The experience was one that is burned into my memory. The place is historic. Beautiful chandeliers came down from the ceiling. Women in feathered costumes were on stage and hanging from the chandeliers. Nudity unseen in my world at that time can not be forgotten. Needless to say I've never been to a show like that again. I can see by the recent reviews the place is not the same. Shows like Cabaret and Zorro can not replicate the spirit of the original shows. I see that Yelpers are not posting or reviewing. Maybe it's a Senior Citizen crowd now. What I know: "Folies Bergère is a cabaret music hall, located at 32 rue Richer in the 9th Arrondissement, the Folies Bergère was built as an opera house by the architect Plumeret. It opened on 2 May 1869 as the Folies Trévise, with light entertainment including operettas, comic opera, popular songs, and gymnastics. It became the Folies Bergère on 13 September 1872, named after nearby rue Bergère. The house was at the height of its fame and popularity from the 1890s' through the 1920s." The Folies Bergère inspired the Ziegfeld Follies in the United States and other similar shows. The Folies Bergère catered to popular taste. Shows featured elaborate costumes; the women's were frequently revealing, practically leaving them naked, and shows often contained a good deal of nudity. In 1926 Josephine Baker was brought over from NYC. Many notable performers have entertained the audiences at the Folies. CC Wikipedia If you want more info look online. I'm so glad I saw one of the traditional performances before they faded into the past. The photos I'm posting are from Wikipedia. They are Public Domain. I don't need a photo. I remember my experience like it was yesterday. I had a peak experience that I enjoyed immensely.

We got inexpensive seats, which wound up being in a gorgeous loge on one side of the venue. They offered a stellar vantage point of all but a sliver of one side of the stage, but I could tell the people in the two neighboring loges that were closer to the stage were missing a LOT of the show. It's a little confusing to find your seats and the ushers who unlock the loge for you work exclusively for tips, which they tell you as they're seating you. Unfortunately, I was in the lavatory when my husband was seated and had all our cash on me and he felt really bad about not having any Euros to give to her. Our local theatres also use volunteers for ushers but tipping them is not at all customary (I'm pretty sure it's never done), so this was a learning experience for us. Pricing for drinks and treats in the lobby is very fair -- I think it was 5 euros for a glass of wine. It would be nice if they had more tables out there for guests enjoying libations at intermission.
