This app lets you get free rides in San Diego in the downtown area. I went to SD for a conference and this service was very impressive and super helpful. My only gripe is that I wish I would have known about it earlier, lol. The app was easy to use and book a ride. When I first loaded it up, I thought it wasn't working, but it was just that the ride window had not started yet (it starts taking rides at 7am, and I was looking at 6:50a). I was able to book a ride immediately and it gave me a waiting time of about 3 minutes. The wait time was not entirely accurate, as it ended up being closer to 10 minutes. But, once I was picked up, it was smooth sailing. I even had my luggage with me, and while it was tricky, I was able to fit it all in the vehicle. Driver was super friendly, too. Because this is totally free, and worked for my needs, I'm giving it five stars. But this is not a good service if you are in a hurry or are particular about how you want to travel. It was an open-air vehicle, which meant no windows and no A/C. We also stopped to pick someone else up so you won't necessarily get a direct ride. If that's important to you, you should get an Uber or Lyft instead. It also does NOT go to the airport, so you will need a rideshare for that. Also, I used this service in the early morning. I can't speak for during peak times. But for back and forth from the convention center in the early morning, it was perfect. And since everything else in SD is so expensive, I'll take whatever savings I can get. read more

Before this shuttle service was Circuit, it was FRED. FRED was free and FRED worked great. They changed to Circuit and started charging $2.50 per ride. The reason for the charge was in part, to make it a more efficient service. HA! More efficient my ass! It was a hot day. We weren't going far. About one mile. From Broadway downtown to near Petco Park. 1st attempt. Driver Kevin was 3 minutes away. Before he got any closer, he canceled the ride. 2nd attempt. The driver (didn't catch the name this time) was 3 minutes away. That driver also canceled. 3rd attempt. Gabriel was 4 minutes away. Then 3 minutes. Then 2. Then back to 3. What? Then jumped to 5 minutes away. Nope. F*ck it. This time I canceled. We walked and arrived in less time than we waited for Circuit to never show up. They canceled on us twice, then the third driver kept getting further away. Ridiculous. I left a comment on the app voicing my displeasure. As expected, I did not receive a response. read more

I requested two rides through Circuit on Catalina Island. The first time, the driver incessantly rushed us and said there's a lot of traffic (2 golf carts passed us on a quiet residential corner). The second time we got to the pickup 3 minutes after the Circuit arrived. I talked to the driver said we were around the corner. When we rounded the corner, we saw him driving off, and then I couldnt request a ride for another 3 minutes. This service is not service oriented. My wife is very distraught because she told me that this driver "Herman" made a comment about her body and was hitting on her and making her feel uncomfortable. My wife is of Hispanic descent and very pretty but that doesn't mean you can just go sexually harassing a woman because she is good looking!! I enjoyed the two rides that I took while at Avalon. The app was easy to use and accurate. As an older adult, I cannot walk as far as I used to. And if you want to go to the Avalon theater for a movie, it gets out after 9 pm when the circuit closes. If they stayed open until 10 or 11 pm, that would help the older tourists. read more

Hooray for Free Ride. Why because they gave me a free ride from the Gaslamp Quarter to Little Italy! I I was pooped after and afternoon of eating downtown and had parked in the heart of Little Italy. I was just to darn tired to take the walk so I flagged one of these little mini electric bus at the light and asked for a ride. The super friendly young lady said, "sure!" "Hop on board!" Well, I was in the ride lickety-split! The ride was simple and quick. The young lady, I wish I would of gotten her name, but we started a great conversation that lasted all the way to my car in Little Italy, so it passed me. Either the app is malfunctioning and is seriously flawed, or the drivers are ignoring riders waiting. Repeatedly I'm assigned to a driver and it'll say 3 minutes away or 4 minutes away yet 15 minutes later I still haven't been picked up and I have watched the driver drive all around East Village but not come and get me. I had a driver explain to me that they ignore the app and they pick up the people in the order they want to. The app is a lie. The ETA is false. I have repeatedly complained about this to the manager David and the owner James and they have not fixed the problem. More than 60% of the time it takes 3 to 4 times longer to get picked up than the app promises. This is a tremendous alternative transportation service, BUT IT IS UNRELIABLE... because it is deceptive, because it is often wrong, and because The app repeatedly makes ETA promises that the drivers can, t, won't or don't keep.... A BAD REPUTATION IN THE COMMUNITY IS WORSE THAN NO REPUTATION AT ALL. DAVID, JAMES: YOU GUYS USED TO BE ON TOP OF THIS STUFF.... Gave this option a go the other evening. My relative who I was with told me about this free ride option that covers parts of downtown. For the free ride it did the trick to get a few blocks over to a bar we were heading to. The ride itself was pretty much like riding in a bigger golf cart. Driver took about 10 minutes to pick us up. We tried a second time to get a ride that evening but the wait was over 20 minutes. We ended up hiking it back. read more

I saw the free ride car on 4th ave. I asked the driver if they go to Petco Park, he said yes. I said I want to go to Petco Park on the corner of Park Blvd and Imperial Ave. He said he can't go that far. I reminded him that that is where Petco Park is. He had a hissy fit and reluctantly said fine. I didn't want to get in the vehicle after his fit. He immediately went back to zoning out on his phone. Free Ride SD, you can do better. Awesome service! My husband and I wanted to go to Little Italy from World Mark and they told us about the app. So I downloaded and signed up for it, and then at first tried to get a ride to Little Italy. It said their network was busy the first couple of times but the next few times I tried I got the driver, Her name was Jannel and she was here in maybe 15 to 16 minutes from the time I requested the ride. It was a quick drive to the area and we were in Little Italy Said thanks to the driver, gave her a tip and we were on our way..... Remember, there are limits on where this route, can or can't go, so keep that and mind and keep patient if you don't get the ride setup within the first few tries. read more

The one star is for the App and it's unreliability for ETA. The one star is for the drivers who ignore people so long until they cancel. The one star is for there being no way to call someone to check on a driver and if the driver is ever planning on picking them up. I waited 40 minutes tonight for Fransisco to pick me up when the original ETA was 18 minute. I had no way of knowing if he was coming, if it was an app. Issue or if he was waiting for me to cancel. This service is either good or bad. Today I waited 25 minutes for FRED. He finally got 2 blocks of me, only for him to call and say he had to drop people off before he could get us. Which meant another 15 min at least. When I first asked for FRED it said 9 minutes. But that is never accurate. The driver was Daniel. The other day I asked for FRED. He came within 10 minutes. Picked up another man after me and dropped him off before me. I am a good tipper. This is a free service that I realize people take advantage of. These drivers appreciate tips and I have rarely seen people tip as they exit the car. There definitely needs to be more drivers on the road. But I'm sure as with all businesses right now, not enough help. Or maybe there aren't enough carts? Not sure. But this is definitely hit or miss. I've rode Fred/Circuit many times due to the long distance of where I park to where I work and other locations. Some days, the wait can be really short, or not at all. Today (8/13) I requested a ride, and before I could get out the building lobby, the driver showrd up, but when I walked outside, I saw 3 Fred/Circuit vehicles parked directly across the street. I asked who was my drive (Chris) but none. So..my ride was cancelled by driver. Then I reschedule, and get new driver which was 8-9 minutes away, but then that driver cancelled also. So I'm standing outside in the heat for 15 minutes, awaiting to reschedule a 3rd time as I see 5 Fred/Circuit vehicles speed pass me. Finally, on my 3rd reschedule, the driver again being 8 minutes away, arrived. This was not a good Friday for Fred/Circuit transportation. read more

Great service, but not nearly enough cars to be practical. DO NOT use if you have somewhere to be quickly- the service is useless in this case because it literally takes 10 times on average before someone accepts the ride. I've waited 15-20 minutes before. Sometimes you'll get lucky the first time, but very rare, especially during busy hours. There was talk about improving the app to include a 'waiting room' so you could at least see how long you have to wait before getting a ride, but that has not been implemented, so it just makes things impractical if you have to be somewhere. Technical aspects of the app also needs improvement, if your phone screen goes off you have to start over again and re enter you location and call ride AGAIN! (speaking about Android, unsure for I phone version). It also resets if you try and do anything else on phone while hailing a ride.... Also no option to save past locations. It's just not user friendly at this point, but they are making improvements, so I'll give them kudos for that. Last thing is they won't pick you up on the street anymore because they're so busy. You used to be able to hail them, but not anymore, which sucks because that was a very friendly and convenient feature. If they had more cars and improved app, it would be the best thing since sliced bread, but lot of work to do at this point. read more

It's helpful for people that live in SD, especially students, that don't want to pay for parking or don't have the money to afford monthly transport passes.
