Greer doesn't have big stores, etc. and the Lazy Trout does an excellent job of carrying lots of things one might need while camping or glamping! They also have a large selection of gift items, shirts, sweatshirts, etc. Everyone is always friendly and helpful. I love that they offer free maps of the area as well as any advice about things to do. They also have cabins and a lodge if you need a place to stay. We've stayed in their cabins a few times in the past and have always had a great experience.

Now it's a little escape from the family reunion we were attending. It's in the middle of nowhere so you occasionally get to see grazing elk and antelope. We came down for snacks and ice on a few occasions. The gas pumps are really old. They are working relics practically. They don't sell lotto tickets. You have to go down to Stanford's for those. The clientele are nice. This is one of those places were the locals hang. Not all of them but a few. It used to be closed on Sundays because Mormons owned it. I believe it's open on Sundays now. Probably because the main road is busier. It's a really interesting place to see. It's a living breathing antique with that real small town feel.

I didn't have a clue where it was so I stopped at the Midway Station to ask for directions. When I walked in, there was an ol' Cowboy behind the counter, his name was Don Goodman, him and his wife Evelyn owned the Midway and had for at least 30 years. Well when I mentioned I was trying to find Timber Knoll, he knew who I was and said they all had been waiting for me to get there...lol After about ten minutes, it was like I had known them for years. Several years later, I moved closer to Show Low, Don and Evelyn sold the Store (which then was also the Post Office) and ended up buying the house I lived in, in Timber Knoll. They were super people, Don got me into roping and did a few cattle drives with him and Carlos who was the foreman at Timberline Ranch. One thing that I always laughed at was when you walked in the door, on the left sitting on the floor in a flower pot, next to the Ice Cream freezer was a peyote plant with a LARGE button... No one ever said anything about it.. about a year or so later the button was gone and Don said " the other day some hippy looking people came in and after they left, he noticed it was gone"... he said they must of been from Phoenix..... LOL

It means they don't always stock everything that's listed in their weekly ads, but hey, less square footage means you're able to get in and out of the store very quickly. :o) Seriously though, I love this store! The manager and clerks are very hometown friendly and treat us very nicely. Bashas also has 'Senior Day' on the first Wed. of each month, so we get a 10% discount. Nice! And one other thing, Bashas has the best doughnuts on the planet!! Even better, every Friday they give you 6 free doughnuts for every 12 you buy. I've never found better doughnuts anywhere else, and I've had them all over the state.

Yelp came thru with a great recommendation seeing as the chevron down the road charges 50 cents more for gas. Not only was the gas less here at Holbrook 76, the owner Robert works the counter and keeps the place immaculate (yep, including the bathroom)! Also has a nice selection of books for the road for sell - just $1.50 or leave a book in place of the one you take! Needless to say glad I stopped; thanks again Robert!! Lee
