I've gone to Pride for about five years so far, and every year, I look forward to it. It's always such a fun and positive time with so many wonderful and loving people (and unfortunately a few handfuls of not-so-friendlies protesting it, but we pay them little to no mind).
I've even gotten my lady involved, and for the past two years, we've marched in the parade with her workplace Fifth Third Bank. It usually starts at 7th and Plum and ends at Sawyer Point. It's a blast being a part of it, letting loose and dancing down the streets, giving out beads and candy, and getting hugs from people watching the parade. I love that so many businesses, both local and nationwide, are represented too.
After the parade, it's pretty much an all-day party with so much to do and see. There are food and drink vendors everywhere, local businesses selling goods, non-profit organizations helping people (Planned Parenthood does free HIV testing every year), lots of places giving out a plethora of freebies, live music, and so much more. The vibe is all about acceptance and loving everyone for who they really are and allows everyone to truly be themselves. Here, like the classic song goes, "We are family! Get up, everybody, and sing!" read more
