I've only been to Cindy's twice now but, I can tell you I was made to feel very comfortable. She listens to what you have to say and keeps a personal file on you regarding color and cut which tells me she cares about her craft and consequently gives me trust and respect. The salon isn't over the top,just a comfortable historical building with personality and charm that's typically Lexington. I'm looking forward to many more visits at Cindy's. read more

Nice folks and satisfactory booking experience but salon experience and the resultant updo were only okay for price. Yea: The appointment setting was easy and I didn't wait long after arrival. It's an interesting space that feels like it was probably once a residence. I am new in town. Called and requested someone with experience cutting short hair. I sat in the chair and was asked if I wanted my hair washed. I have never been asked this when visiting a beauty salon. Perhaps at a barber shop, you do not get your hair washed, but at a salon? I had styled my hair the way I wanted it to look after my trim/haircut so that the beautician would see how I wanted it to look. I have a short, funky shag haircut with lots of wispy hair around my face and my neck. I specifically said "please do not cut off all of my fringe" before she started cutting. The first thing she did was blunt cut the back of my hair across my neck! I just asked her NOT to do this! she continued cutting with regular shears and was done in less than 5 minutes. Now I am not a beautician, but I know that in order to achieve the cut I was asking for, thinning shears and/or a razor should be used to get that funky haircut. It is not blunt cut! Then she asked me if I wanted my hair dried! Are you kidding me! Why would any woman want to walk out of a salon with unstyled wet hair? To make matters worse, she did not know how to use a round brush when attempting to dry my hair. I ended up drying it myself and flat ironing it myself while in her chair. I am not in the habit of writing a bad review especially for a small business, but I sent an email to the salon explaining my unhappiness and I received no response. Therefore here we are on Yelp! The next time I try to find a stylist, I will request someone with many years of hair cutting experience and the artistic ability to create a modern hairstyle. Now I will have to wait at least 6 weeks for my hair to grow back in order to have it fixed the way it is supposed to be read more

It took visits to several salons after moving to Lexington before I finally someone who could cut and color my hair to my satisfaction but I finally found Jessica. I was in town for a family wedding and last minute wanted my hair done they were wonderful and fit me in for an appointment. My stylist Shawny was amazing it was her first day at the salon , she was so sweet and kind and styled my hair so beautifully for the wedding . She did a beautiful hair style and made me feel special . I highly recommend you go see Shawny she is an amazing stylist . They were all so friendly at the salon too . the salon closes at 5:00 everyday so if you work in the real world forget going here.The one day I was off unexpectedly and got there at 3:00 the sign out front said "Walk-in's welcomed" so Heaven forbid I thought I could get my hair cut. Went to get a manicure as it was the only salon in town with decent ratings, but boy was that a mistake. The woman doing my nails was extremely sweet, but her services were far from that. She didn't soak my nails, stated my cuticles were fine and did nothing to clean my nails other than a bit of filing, and painted them so sloppy that it was up on my cuticles and is now peeling because of that...3 DAYS LATER. Extremely disappointed that I paid $35 for the worst manicure of my life and I'm going to have to get them redone already...ANY WHERE BUT HERE. I was visiting home for the holidays and stopped in here on a whim--I've had really long hair for years and wanted a dramatic change. They took me immediately and the stylist (sorry I forget your name, writing this a week later!) took his time and was very thorough, kind, and helpful. I had just had a horrible experience at another salon. It was so uneven. I went to Cindy's because I had heard they were very good. A very nice gentleman cut my hair. I had pictures to show him exactly what I wanted and he seemed to understand. He said the other salon had really chopped my hair. When he was done it didn't look anything like I wanted. We played with it a bit and got it to a place that was workable. I even kind of liked it. The next day when I went to fix it I noticed I was having trouble getting it to look the same. I booked this salon for my wedding after another salon in town double booked my wedding (when I booked first). The salon was very professional and courteous when I booked with them over the phone. We had agreed upon prices that I was quoted by Brook in an email, as well as confirmed numerous times before booking. On the day before the wedding, I had an appointment for hair and makeup trial. My mother, grandmother, sister and I also had nail appointments. We arrived late due to an accident that closed part of the highway, but we had called in advance letting the salon know that we were running late to which they responded, "no problem, thanks for letting us know". However, when we arrived for our appointments we were greeted by a lot of rolling of the eyes and rude comments. One of the women, I believe her name was Nora was supposed to handle manicures told my mother that "she didn't have time to do a french gel manicure-- what my mom wanted and she could only do a regular polish. The hairstylist ,Brook, who was responsible for my hair trial ran some curlers and bobby pins through my hair, not finishing the look and charged me the same price for my wedding day hair for that "trial". I was told over the phone that my hair trial would be $45 and I was charged $65. Then the day of my wedding my bridesmaids were each charged $65 for hair when the salon had told me on the phone that the cost would be between $45-55 for hair, and then they charged me and my bridesmaids each $65 for makeup. We had spoken about the make up cost earlier they told me that each of us would be charged $40 for makeup. When I questioned them about the discrepancy the said that the price stands and that they did not tell me anything different earlier. My hairstylists left before I was done with makeup, rather than waiting until I had left the salon to ensure that my hair didn't need any touch ups before I left for my wedding. The makeup artist, Robin, was very nice, but ended up having to touch up my hair before I left. One of my bridesmaids ending up having to pin a part of my hair up before the ceremony because it fell down. On top of that one of my bridesmaids curls came out before the ceremony. While the bridesmaids were waiting for my makeup to be finished up, one of the hairstylists (Rebecca) asked rudely who was going to take care of their bill. She insisted on getting each tab paid out immediately. Even after being charged higher prices than we were promised at the point of booking, my girls and I also tipped. Please take heed, and do not book your wedding party here. I regret that I have to write this type of review, but I was extremely upset at how we were treated the weekend of my wedding and taken advantage of by this salon. read more

Miracle workers. Let me tell you. First, some back story. For my baseball team's playoff run, I decided to stylize my hair. You see, I have some deficiencies in regards to facial hair so I decided to do something with my head hair, just to contribute to the cause. My hair was pretty long at the time (luscious lettuce if you will), so my teammate decided it would look nice to shave my cute curly wings. That's all that was done. The result was short of a mullet; but rather, as if a bald person had sloppily put a toupee on their head without correcting it. So, after our playoff run came to a close (sadly ending in a loss), I knew I had to do something about this catastrophe. I thought I would have to shave my head and simply saw no other option. But obviously I underestimated the great people at Cindy's salon. Wow what an extraordinary experience. I walk in without making an appointment, expecting basically nothing to be done. But boy was I wrong. The main stylist- a very jubilant young man I must say -stood petrified as I walked into the room. But this man embraced this opportunity. He saw this as an experiment to show off his expertise and sure enough, he came through, and he came through in a big way. The result of 40 min of masterful styling and cutting was a complete transformation featuring a fade that somehow worked. I'm still in utter shock at this small-town salon. I got an eye brow wax and it's HORRIBLE! I asked for "natural" brows, told her I don't like "thin" eyebrows, and asked her "just to clean up the arch a bit". She made them super thin and with NO arch!!! She didn't use the pencil technique to see where the eye brow should stop in the middle, where the arch should start, or where the eye brow should end. And she BURNT MY SKIN! The top layer of skin is missing right under my right eye. It's painful and I just know it's going to scab over. My eye brows look horrific and I'm not sure how I'm going to fix them with makeup to try to look normal until they grow in. I HOPE they grow back in and aren't equally as horrible as I wait. Then I got my hair cut. 2nd mistake of the day. The cut was average. She did blow dry my hair, but it was still damp when I left! And she didn't blow dry any volume into my hair so it looked horrible when I left. Very flat and no body. Needless to say I left very unhappy. read more
