Mmm, perhaps. The main level is designated for adult reading, internet & computer area, teen lounge area. Upstairs is the 0-14 yo youth section. In the basement is the good ol' Dewey Decimal system in use . The library is undergoing a makeover currently but it's not cluttered and still very much open to be enjoyed by the community and visitors. To acquire a Library Card to check out books , you need a Picture ID, parent or guardians, children can have their own card or under the guardian. You may decide what's best for your particular family unit. Proof of address is required and a picture ID. The library is free to use during Hours of Operation. They are helpful, so just ask for guidance or any necessary questions you may have. There is parking both in the East and West lots. Accessible on Riverside Dr. Parking is Not accessible on Harlem Avenue. The library is a wonderful place to catch up on reading, introducing new topics to your family/friends and promote healthy literacy in our communities for ALL. Great place to visit. They offer Dinner & Movie night for only $5 buffet, registration required for adult services. They have a monthly program, lists all the book clubs and activities for all ages. If you sign up for a library card, you will review the schedule by email once per month.

They have a nice children's section as well, and the main section of the library does not feel crowded. There are 10 spaces in their parking lot so sometimes you may have to find street parking. That can be tricky , especially because (in fall 2023) there is construction work being completed on the sidewalk so that reduces street parking. The children's events here are good. They have music and movement, stories, and have some programming for most ages. I like that Ms. My gave the children name tags. I also VERY much appreciate that this branch has evening programs sometimes--we went to a Wednesday evening one, which is a nice departure from most of the branches that have children's programs on weekdays at 10-11 am.

I'm on a quest to visit every branch of the Chicago Public Library system…read more This is probably the emptiest library I've ever seen. There were about three other patrons when I visited. This is nice if you're looking for a quiet space and a pretty much confirmed seat. There were plenty of open tables! The entertainment DVD selection was small, but the educational/documentary DVDs were plentiful! (I didn't see any music, now that I think about it.) There was also a very large section of books on tape. The periodicals are set up nicely in this library; I usually forget about them since they're not out in the open, but there is a very dominant place for them. The adult side of the library is small, but the shelves are PACKED. I was impressed by the BIG children's space! Half the library is dedicated to children's media, and it looked like a very nice space: plenty of tables, plenty of books and lots of color. Almost all of the museum passes were in when I visited, so I think this is a good branch to visit if you're trying to hunt down a pass (though the popular Shedd and Field passes were out). Oh, and the staff was really helpful and friendly!

There are a few community rooms for meetings, kids events and classes. I've taken ballroom dance thru the Park District in a nice spacious classroom on the upper level. Friendly, competent staff. Well-tended gardens and outdoor space for letting the kids run around a bit. Or they can hop over to the Whittier playground for a spell. We are lucky to have Dole in our neighborhood!

My mom's house has time and again proven to be an unworkable place due to loud TV watching, constant interruptions, and a slew of honey dos she lines up for me. When Maze was closed, I headed over here. It started out promising, I found a parking spot right in front and an empty table with a power strip next to it and got set up to work. I put on my headphones, not to listen to anything, but to help prevent distraction. And then it started. Like a storm rolling in. First with a few giggles, cascading into loud requests from a few kids, and quickly escalated into children running around, screaming laughing and shouting. One could have mistaken the place for a book-filled Gymboree. Full disclosure, children aren't my thing. While it would easy to blame them or attribute it to a parent or two letting their special snowflake run amok; this behavior was known and encouraged by staff. As I said, the library is small and it doesn't have a separate children's room. Maybe an interactive space is this small library's thing, but for the uninitiated, some level of disclosure would have been nice. Silly me for assuming that libraries = quiet spaces.

Now my time is really her time and I have been checking out what the various CPL branches have to offer to get us out of the house, socializing, and learning. Our calendar is getting increasingly packed as we plan to visit several of the CPL's 81 branch libraries. This week we visited the Logan Square branch for both Tummy Time and Story Time with Ms. Erica in the community room and it was great. There were 10 or so other baby-parent pairs. At the tummy time program, most of the children were on the younger side since I don't think babies need tummy time once they can crawl (although there were a few walkers there), and story time was more older children though I still would take my seven week old so she could hear and learn. The librarian had some rhymes and songs ready for the kids, and read a few books as well. Some of the songs were in both English and Spanish. The tummy time program was scheduled for a half hour but she went another 20 minutes at least, which was great for us since I can't tell time. I definitely appreciate her being generous with her time! Story time must be popular because there were two back to back sessions scheduled and I noticed the first one was really packed. I'm not sure how proficient the libarian is with a guitar (she may be a virtuoso for all I know), but she had one there and Erica shares her talents with little ones by playing the guitar for them, using it to accompany the songs we sang along to. This morning she let children strum the guitar on their way out. As an added treat, there was a bubble machine that Erica turned on and the kids really loved it. I think mine is too little to yet understand what they were but she did seem intrigued. And I appreciate that Erica offered to take a photo of me and my bambina after the program was completed (thank you!). I don't live in Logan Square, and even though there are at least ten branches closer to us than this one I would love to visit and attend as long as my little one is not too crabby to get here (it's about 20 minutes away from us). Erica was very welcoming, as was another library employee who greeted us whilst we were waiting for the second story time to begin. This library is about the same size as most of the other branches and has parking for 15-20 cars which is certainly helpful. I almost missed it, honestly; maybe it was just me but it was kinda hidden. There's also street parking which appeared to be free as well. (As an aside, I recently realized that I've been mistaken in calling many of the libraries small; I've been thinking in terms of Sulzer Library, my neighborhood library, which is one of the three regional libraries; rather than compare them to Sulzer, the non-regional branches should be compared to one another and this one is reasonably sized from that perspective.) Across the street is a coffee shop called Sip of Hope, where all proceeds go to suicide prevention efforts, so if you need coffee before or after you will find no more convenient spot to satisfy that vice. Probably an unexpected FYI, but this branch has Narcan available for free. I took a box since I've been meaning for years to buy some and keep it with me in case I'm somewhere where someone appears to be overdosing. I know I've seen it at other branches but sometimes the dispenser boxes are empty and I'm not sure if this has been rolled out to every branch yet, but it's a great community service.

I'm hoping that Galewood will get it together soon and build and actual library for their neighborhood. It's definitely more of a kids library than an adults library. Although I do reserve books online for myself and just pick them up here. You can reserve books online at Chicago Public Library and have them delivered to the library of your choice. I choose this one because it's close to me. The librarians are super friendly and helpful. My kids love coming here to play with the toys and legos. When the weather is hot we go outside and get wet in the splash pad. Such a cute set up. Alderman Taliaferro, we are counting on you to step up and find an actual location for Galewood's library.

It is only one room in the fieldhouse of Rutherford Sayre Park. Park for free on the street (parallel or perpendicular) walk up either staircase and open the main door. turn down the left hallway and go to the end to the single room packed with books. They make the most of their space. They have tables with coloring and puzzles for small kids and many many books. If the kids get antsy, you can send them out to the adjacent playground and splash pad. It's also nice that you can request any book online and pick it up here. I live in OP, so I was able to get a CPL card and get access to more books. However, they only have two full-time employees, and so hours are not the best. Make sure you double-check before you go. Also they do not yet have a bookdrop here, you can always return your books at another CPL location like North Austin or West Belmont. Go check out this library!

I have been going to Bezazian Library for over 30 years. Through the decades, the staff has been…read moreconsistently solid. Yes it's small -- Bezaz folks call it cozy -- but endearingly quirky. Staff and patrons know each other here because it's integral part of our North Uptown Neighborhood. The block club meets at Bezaz. There's also regular CAPS meetings, book and writing clubs, homework help and children's story time, sewing and crafting groups, and a fantastic annual book sale. Bezazian is more than just a library, it's a community hub. I highly recommend spending some time there, join a group and meet your neighbors, and I think you'll come to really appreciate this little gem of a library.
