    Steinbach Credit Union

recently got transferred here from Ontario as I am a chief surgeon! When I came here I was looking…read moreto open my bank accounts in credit union as I always dealt with credit union in Ontario as well! So I was told that Steinbach credit union is number one in Manitoba! So I decided to go check this credit union out in Steinbach! When I walked in there I felt really out of place didn't feel welcomed at all and I talked to someone at front the way they responded wasn't great either it seems like they had no interest in talking to me then at same time Caucasian person walked in and wow the difference I felt how they talked to him Versus me was huge! That was biggest turn off for me! I looked around for someone else may be a coloured person as it should be well diversified credit union as every other credit union is and asked if they have any executive who is around I can talk too! But apparently no one! I figured they probably have no executive who is coloured! Then after digging deeper I saw on their website they have no coloured person on the Board and have no coloured person on their executive leadership Team! The only people on the BOARD are CAUCASIAN or probably their own friends and only people they hire as their EXECUTIVES or CHIEFS are caucasians as well and How can they respect a member who is Coloured if they don't believe in diversification in their own organization. And then I heard from people around there It's been like this since this organization started, even though the whole world is changing to being diversified they don't believe in that! Such a bad impression ! No respect whatsoever when they see you as a coloured person! Can't believe which world do they live in! Imagine applying for job here or working here and being coloured person it doesn't matter how qualified you are and how much experience you have and how good you are - no chance of getting a job at higher level as they have no history of being diversified on board or Executives and never will be ! Probably They won't even interview if you are coloured! feel Bad for coloured people who work there probably have no chance in becoming executives ever! Then I looked at other credit union in Manitoba and actually very well diversified and have coloured people on their bo

Stewart is friendly, professional, and gets your returns done in a blink of an eye! The rates are extremely reasonable as well, and appointments are easy to get and can be booked online. We have never gone to see Lisa Ostermann at this location, but we have heard she is wonderful as well. 110% recommended!

Eric Stewart is incompetent and does not keep up with tax law in Canada…read more He did not know in 2017 that the Federal government had removed the exemption for tuition fees: I had to tell him that fact and lo - it was true. Should have been worried then. He advised me I could claim a property expense exemption that was actually ILLEGAL, but only told me I might "attract the attention of CRA for making a claim for the sole purpose of saving taxes." I was NOT doing this {during COVID was stretched to pay for my own household and my children's) and believed the claim was LEGAL, as he did not advise otherwise. 3 years in, I am advised that these exemptions are NOT ALLOWED and now owe $10,000 in back taxes. As if I can afford this now or would have made the claim in the first place, HAD I KNOWN. Stewart has NEVER responded to my communications for help, and had ONLY replied to my recent Google review with "listen to your next tax provider carefully:" WHY? to unknowingly BREAK THE LAW? HE ADVISED ME to make these claims, during COVID restrictions, with a weak disclaimer that CRA might look into it if it was for good reason, NOT that it was illegal. He is INCOMPETENT and has no manners or integrity. BEWARE.

Mogo - Although this bundle is optional, it was automatically added without my friend's knowledge until she read her agreement.

    Mogo

Mogo is a company that offers a number of financial services. It is based out of Vancouver…read more This company offers the following services: - Mortgages - Loans - Stocks - Credit score help My friend was looking for a loan. Her credit isn't great. We both analyzed how she could get a Mogo loan. Mogo's site says that you can get pre-approved for a loan in three minutes after you sign up for an account. I found that to be odd. Wouldn't you want to get the pre-approval first and then decide if you want to say yes by creating an account? My friend originally wanted a loan for $10,000. She got approved for half that amount. It wasn't bad considering how poor her credit limit is. This loan isn't really a loan. It's more like a line of credit with a ridiculous interest rate of 47%. It's good if you are thinking of paying it off quickly. Payments are automatically deducted from your chequing account on your payday. You can make payments on top of this regular debit as often as you'd like. I don't like that you can only contact a Mogo representative through an online chat. It made the process for my friend painfully slow, especially if either person is slow at typing. Communicating details verbally would have been much faster. I watched her spend over 1.5 hours working with the representative on Saturday. Beware of optional services that Mogo adds to your agreement automatically. I read everything in my friend's agreement. Mogo snuck in a extra $55 of services in each payment. Why not take the time to share these details with customers and have them determine whether they want them? Forcing these optional services automatically as part of the loan agreement felt shady. I got my friend to tell them to take these optional services off. It wasted another day of effort. She got her new agreement today. She went with an e-transfer of the funds to her chequing account within 24 hours. It happened a few hours later. My friend was happy and relieved. I'm glad that I could help her out a bit. I used to live in Winnipeg. The first representative that we had said that it was cold on Saturday. I said that I used to live in Winnipeg, so I know what cold is like. We got a smiley emoji from this representative. He confirmed to us that the call centre is in Winnipeg. My friend's agreement stated a downtown Winnipeg location. Winnipeg is known for being a call centre hub, mainly because it's smack in the middle of Canada. It's decent to cover customers from coast to coast during regular business hours which are Monday through Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm, Eastern. This company is good if you need a short-term loan that you can pay off quickly. Beware of optional services that are added to an agreement by default instead of made mention during the application process. Read every detail carefully in the document. Otherwise, you'll be paying more than you already are to begin with. (53)
