I discovered this TD Canada Trust Branch while we were doing some morning food shopping in 'Como…read moreLake Village' yesterday. It was a surprise find, and just what I needed for some financial transactions I had hoped to get done at a TD while out that morning. This was the first time I actually stepped inside a bank for several weeks, and my first experience with the Covid -19 banking procedures TD has in-place at this time. The procedure went like this. Before being able to enter the bank, an attendant came out and asked me if I had an appointment - I said 'no', and was then asked to step aside from the doorway, and 'check in' (either digitally with a cell phone, or verbally with her). I chose the latter, and was asked a few questions -- name, had I travelled out of country lately, had I had any contact with anyone having, or isolating from Covid -19, and what type of business had I planned to conduct in the bank at this time. All of this was conducted in a matter of a minute's time, and just outside the bank's entrance. I was then asked to wait in line, and would be called to come in -- about a minute later, I was asked to come inside, and told which teller to head to. My business inside the bank was then ompleted in about 3 minutes. I was very impressed with this TD Canada Trust's service. Everything was provided, and conducted in such a friendly, courteous, and very efficient / professional manner.

I finally decided to switch from one of the Big 5 Banks (BMO) to a local credit union. I spent…read morequite a bit of time researching all my options, and I chose Community Savings Credit Union. The reasons that I was unhappy with BMO are as follows. ATMs I've been banking at BMO for 10 years. At the time, the major banks all had ATMs at particular locations - RBC at Chevrons, CIBC at 7-elevens and BMO was at all the Safeways... We decided that the Safeway choice for non-branch ATMs would be the most convenient for us... A few years later, BMO shut down all the Safeway ATMs. The only way to access free cash is to go to a branch (teller or ATM). Around the same time, other institutions began charging "convenience fees" in addition to the regular Interac fee. What upsets me is that BMO was still making Billions $$$, it's not like they had to shut down their Safeway ATMs. Customer Service When we joined BMO the staff at our branch were very kind to us. I was given their business cards upon leaving and was told that I could email with any questions. I did have a question several months later, but the staff person was no longer at the branch. I have seen so many people come and go in my local branch that I have not been able to build a rapport with anyone. The only explanation that I can think of is that they must not treat their employees well (or pay them well). They're making Billions $$$ and they can't retain staff! Non-local staff A few times when I was talking to the "call centre" I was offered a new lending product (credit card, loc extension). When I agreed, I was then forwarded to another person at a different location, this person would take the application and then tell me that it'd be forwarded to the "lending dept" somewhere, and that I'd get call back? Once I then got a call back denying my "requested credit limit increase"... First of all, I didn't request it, it was offered. Secondly, I didn't really need it, I have a large credit limit and I don't carry a balance. I just don't like being offered something, then forwarded to two people and then denied something that I had never asked for in the first place. I've heard of this happening in other Big Banks as well... The employees are so focused on "up-selling"... When deciding on where to take my business, I chose Community Savings for the following reasons. They are unionized and they adhere to the "minimum living wage". Because of this, they are rated by the employees as one of the best places to work in Canada and they have long employee tenure (average 11 years). I expect to see the same people at my branch for years to come. I can use ANY credit union (not just my credit union) ATM, including for deposits. No more ATM fees on my monthly statements! There always seems to be a credit union that's nearby, so I don't expect to pay Interac fees or "convenience fees" anymore! I don't expect them to make service cuts to please shareholders. Since the members are shareholders, service cuts wouldn't please us... They are very innovative. They were the first institution in Canada to offer internet banking, they have mobile banking (via text), they have mobile internet (smartphone browser). I expect them to continue to offer services that benefit the members (like me) rather than offer new service reluctantly and only when it saves money (which is how I felt at the Big Bank). My wife, baby and I met with Community Savings Credit Union this week. They were very kind to us, they took turns holding our baby and helped us open our account. We're very happy with the service and we're glad that we made the switch.

Wow only the second review of the credit union. Truly a hidden gem I guess. I've been a member for…read more16 years firstly for the account of my union local but for my private banking for about 12 years or longer. I have been more than pleased as they do go the extra mile including allowing deposits being made at any exchange ATM not just credit unions but the banks that use exchange ATMs. I even was helped on Christmas day when there was an issue with my debit card no way would a bank do that. They have always provided excellent service if you "make the switch consider this credit union.

My family & myself has…read morebeen using Scotia Bank for years and years... and despite their crappy attitudes, long lines and ridiculously short hours, I've stayed faithful to them until 2 things happened. 1. They start you off with minor/student accounts when you are a minor, but automatically move you to a savings account and charge you ~$8 per month for fees, without telling you. I was coughing up those fees every month without my knowledge 2. I was out of country for a while (more than 1 year) and didn't use my Scotia Bank account during that time - apparently, they kept collecting the monthly fees until my balance ran to 0. When I returned, I went to this branch (where I got my original account too), the person who was working told me "Your account is closed because your balance is 0" and then she took the card, and cut it up in front of me with a scissor. That's just rude. She looked at me like I'm piece of dirt and then moved onto the next customer. I switched to TD that very day, and have been a happy TD customer ever since. Any time people move into the area and ask me for advice on what bank to go for, I always point them in the direction of TD. Scotia Bank may have the most ATMs around, but they surely aren't going to win any awards in customer satisfaction. Guess what? TD (at least the branches I've been to) have friendly staff, and hours that I can work with I gave you 2 stars, instead of 1 just because of your location... and that's the only reason that you get 2 stars

I have dealt with RBC for over 5 years now and overall RBC is amazing when you call their Customer Support, the online Support is amazing and usually most branches are great! This is not a complaint about RBC in general, THIS IS A COMPLAINT ABOUT RBC, SHAUGHNESSY STREET IN PORT COQUITLAM, BC. THIS BRANCH = HORRIBLE. First, the Customer Service here is terrible. When you walk up and are conducting BASIC banking functions the Customer Service Representatives cant do it, they either don't know how or they claim they don't know what you're talking about. I went in to renew my mortgage and change the dates my mortgage withdraws from bi-weekly to 15th & 30th. I did this in AUGUST, and early renewed my mortgage effective August 30th. Well, let me tell you, whoever I dealt with as the 'Manager' was clearly not trained, and I have now paid 4 Mortgage Payments in 4 weeks (1 per week)! When I called and ask what is happening they tell me they are 'unsure' and that my Bi-Weekly payments are still happening, along with my 15th and 30th payments. They offered me no other assistance, and said I can 'skip' a payment until I come to get more money. WAIT WHAT? UNTIL I COME INTO MORE MONEY RBC? REALLY? when it's your screw up? Second, I have a Vehicle Loan with RBC, I again asked to switch from bi-weekly payments to the 15th and 30th. This was done the exact same time in August, to take effect Sept 1st (So i would not have been billed until Sept 15th). Well, its Sept 9th and I've already had a Loan Payment come out, and am being told another one will come out on the 15th and 30th - 3 payments in 1 month when there should be only 2. Their offer of assistance 'We've sent an email to investigate this but we don't know why it happened'. CLEARLY, this team at Shaughnessy RBC knows nothing. IF, YOU EVER need to do banking with RBC, I HIGHLY suggest 1) Going to another Branch!!! 2) Calling RBC over the phone! Both of those options are MUCH BETTER than the horrible experience you will have at Shaughnessy Street, Port Coquitlam RBC.

HSBC........... I…read morewant to share my experience with everyone regarding HSBC especially with their recent announcement not to support small businesses. I've been banking with HSBC for 35 years! I've seen lots of changes over the years. I had my investments, chequing, savings, mortgage and loans with them. For the vehicles we've purchased over the 35 years, the dealership offered financing thru various other banks but I've always selected HSBC. Each and every time my mortgage came due, I was graciously offered the post rate as the renewal rate. Each time, I asked HSBC to have the mortgage transfer documents ready. At that point, I was then offered competitive mortgage rate similar to other financial institutions. When my mortgage was paid off, HSBC did not file the proper documentation remove the lien and title ownership. We did not realize until 5 years later when we decided to purchase an investment property. Basically, we were not able to use our house as collateral for a mortgage because title documents indicate HSBC as the owner. Needless to say, it took the 2 month to file and complete the documentation process. It took so long because they did not have our current address on file! It's a lame excuse......I get my cheques returned to me for audit purposes. Yes, they also have our home, cell and work phone numbers. No one even made an attempt in contacting us. As result of the delays, we were unable to remove the subjects by the deadline which resulted in us forfeiting the property. I was extremely frustrated and called the back to speak with the bank manager. Because the bank manager was busy, I left a quick message with the receptionist along with my contact details. Guess who called me? The customer service representative I had an issue with. The receptionist re-routed the message to the customer service rep. I did not want to talk with her! When I did finally take with the bank manager, I explained the property title issue to him as well as the re-routing of messages. I made an appointment with the manager to pull ALL my investments out of HSBC! He did ask me consider giving HSBC another chance. There was absolutely NO WAY I would consider the HSBC brand for anything with all the challenges and unprofessionalism displayed. Please understand, the above is just 2 problems I've faced over the 35 years.
